I held off on getting the viking village set. So I guess I will get it but ugh. What will I do with it. The forest hideout was right on the money. The best castle set in a decade imo. It is better than the lion castle, and yes I got that too. I got the blacksmith too. The nostalgia for this exact era of castle to me is really huge, I had and still have my castle sets the forest hideout, the wolfs hideout, the falcon castle. And the dragon masters dragon lair. Why would lego ruin this set so badly. They didn't even include the bird and shield. The knight wears pouldrons and a sword. Why? Those halberds were iconic. And I know there is a sword inside, and the halberd can be taken down from the building and probably the sword goes into the spot in side the building. But let me make a guess here. The people designing this and doing the box art have no g'd d'mn clue what sold the original set, why the original was iconic. Why Majisto and the dragon knights are so iconic. What sells them. It's the dragon helmets, the pointy beards, the dragon plumes on the helmets in all colors. Those massive shields with their logo on it. The only part of this new set that makes it Dragon knight theme is the chest print that the knight has, the rest is a pile of bricks you can find at pick a brick.
While I place the castle above everything LEGO has ever made, in rounded characteristics of playability, scale, fun, detail and beauty, mini selection of 4 factions that allow fun for all ages and sexes, universal theme, etc... is LEGOs best set ever. But there are some real hits and misses, but I would think LEgo would have marketing team that knows all this... I think they did not have time on the printers for other stuff, and put it as low priority maybe. but I too held off for this GWP but now might have to wait for a better deal....
@@jacobe1942 Look at the ideas set for the Viking village. With a whole array of prints for the shields the plaque of the ship etc etc. That is a online only set. How come that does get the printing and this doesn't even get stickers. I feel that the respect for the IP being dragon knights is not there. It is a part of my childhood and seeing it done like this kinda upsets me. If they can go all out on a CMF like Basil that is being released this year why not give at least a shield and a black helmet. And you can't tell me that running a mold of tiny dragon plumes is asking too much. They could easily repurpose such a part as well. As they do so often with molds. Like for instance the cmf viking helmet which is included in the Explorer ship and the Viking village. I call it lazy. And if there was no budget room for a gwp of this scale with new parts since old parts are no longer being made. Pick something else from the castle theme. There are so many sets that could be remade that are just as iconic. And save this for a later date when you are able to get parts made that are a necessity. If anyone that lived as a kid at the time and had dragon knights sees this set they will not like it. Maybe a handful of people would feel okay with this. But those big shields the unique helmets with the dragon plumes face prints Majisto and the big halberds made these sets. And literally nothing in this set is dragon knight. Only 1 printed torso. This really hurts the eyes.
@@dgray3771 Oh I am with ya man, I grew up with most of the classic castles. I am not a fan of the remakes as much as I was impressed by the Lions Knight castle that was more of an inspiration. That got me back into LEGO after 25ish years. In some ways lego has gotten better, but in others, much worse, and this does not feel like a top tier product. (based on what they want people to spend) the new CMF minis sure do and lead hope to possiblities of such lines, and I hoped a new helmet here would mean we would get a black brick castle that would be immensely popular. At a minimum the armor should have been black, and needed an animal/ bird to be faithful remake.
I was excited for it prior to watching this now I'm all, meh. That rock piece came with the lunar base too. They should've gone all out on the minifigs. Pretty lame. I got a wizard minifig from the Lego store a few years ago with lots of printing on both upper and lower and he even had a hat with grey long hair attached --way cooler than this generic majisto. This Dragon Knight is lame! Should've had the helmet with the dragon decoration and a horse and a better weapon and some unique armor AND a shield--hella lame!! Maybe the inside of the building is cool? I wish Lego would try a little harder for the fans
Eh. To each their own. My only complaint is the threshold to get it. With GWP sets I always go in with low expectations. I think if I had to buy this set on its own I’d be more upset. I’ve already had my eye on a few sets that will get my over the $250 threshold if it’s that high so I’ll get it
As for the minifigures, I totally agree. As for the set, I think you'll change your mind when you see the inside. Like the original set, removing the lock on the door will allow the workshop to be opened, the door is unfunctional but the design is a play feature. The BURPs are ugly (obviously)... but will allow maximal space within the build. I'm hoping that the Dragon masters may be making a return possibly with the medieval market next year, but as always with LEGO, who knows?
Honestly, I'm not a huge dragon masters fan, the OG set had a wacky structure. I think the 6075 Wolfpack Tower would have been a better set to remake. Getting the old helmet with Chin Guard would be much better than getting the dragon master helmet.
The Wolfpack Tower is actually one of the few sets I'd like to see them remake because I think they could do a better job with the "wolf head" shape this time around using modern pieces.
I'd love it just so I'd have a chance at making a Wolfpack bandit crew as a more grounded medieval robber band than Forestmen. Love them both, don't get me wrong, but the Wolfpack just scratch that bandit itch. Wouldn't need to get a huge group of them either, just 10~ guys attacking peasants on the road.
You know, I get that Lego's design philosophy is to create new pieces and prints as rarely as possible, trying to be creative with the already existing on. And I get that said new pieces/prints are meant to attract buyers towards big expensive sets and they are making them scarce on purpose in smallers sets. Hence why the "dragon knight" here has no fitting helmet, shield nor halberd. But because of it, this set just doesn't work and comes across as cheap. The alternative would have been to bring back the accessories from the original dragon knights sets, but since Lego also refuses to bring back older pieces (for all kinds of bad reasons), we end up with this crappy compromise. Really disappointing.
People say, "oh, it's a gwp, it's fine!", but check out the Blacktron set: double printed torso! The burp inclusion is great though, I'm surprised by that.
In my opinion it is a wonderful set and the threshold is perfect! This combination will save my money because I don't like this version 😂 I grew up with this sets but this isn't a GWP which brings me to buy something with that big amount of money. 1. Where is a nice majisto? The one of the BAM Tower of last year was outstanding, why didn't they used this minifigure 2. Where are the things which make the knight look like a dragon master? No dragon shield, no dragon helmet --> why they didn't use the designer which made the new bat knight for CMF series 25, that is a designer for such a job 3. Where is a difference to the original? The only difference is a door from the shire without function and limb elements which are added by trunks instead of arches And don't forget that they changed the dragon plume into a normal one - that really sucks 4. Only 1 part/new print in this whole set which should bait us? OMG, what brings them to such a decision All in all no set I wanted to buy - hopefully the torso would come in PAB online
You are forgetting the fact that the roof slopes are not as good as the original ones and the double corner palisade piece was a nice technique in the original set.
Pretty much agree with everything here. The dragon knight is the worst offender, not a faithful remake nor an upgrade/modernization. Seems like they brought back the exact old torso print and stuck to the color scheme for the body, and that would be fine if it was all trying to be faithful, but then they miss completely with the rest of the figure. They could have gone the Black Falcon way and modernized the body with a new torso print, less saturated color choices, etc... then the alternative helmet would be more justifiable. Instead, we got this weird mix that feels like a creator set. Not to mention the lack of any shield. The inclusion of the dragon knight in the first set didn't really make any sense anyway. It's Majisto's workshop, not the dragon knight's workshop. They should have cut that figure out instead of this poor iteration, and instead given us something else. Just the Falcon mold from the CMF black falcon figure would be very welcome, as Majisto's familiar is a more logical inclusion than some random knight. People would still complain, but hey, people are complaining now so... I got to defend the use of BURPs though. If it was brick-built they would lose a lot of interior space. We still got to see how well they utilize it, but in theory there are major benefits to using the BURPs for such a set.
I wish I could defend it considering I hit the threshold specifically to get this, frankly, like a sucker. It does come off as a nostalgia laden cash grab. I agree, I wish they would just return to the Castle series, instead of slow leaking remakes of sets.
Personally I feel like it’s a nice companion piece if you’re getting the upcoming medieval market village and if you have the lion knights castle. Other than that it is pretty bad.
This is definitely a disappointment from a price/figure standpoint. But I do like the build!, minus the door I do like the build, excited to see the interior Now on to my actual point, you made the point of innovating on what the original did, I believe the forest hideout is a MUCH better set for how it improves on the original while still FEELING like the original, I think a Majysto’s hut doesn’t do a good job at that despite the fact I said I like it Have a good day man! Good video
The set looks ok. I didn’t have high expectations and will reserve judgement until I see a review with all the details. But what is most disappointing as a lot of pointed out are the minifigs and lack of printing and no shield. The torso print is also a bit meh. Was hoping for a modern take like how they have updated black falcon and lion knights torsos.
Well I do like the structure, it's very old fashioned, and I also like big gray rocks, but minifigs could be much much better. Dragon knight without famous dragon helmet? Wizard with no prnts and animals? And even his wand is not white. Well that is not good.
Yeah, I was looking forward to this, but the combination of that Lion Knight cosplaying as a Dragon Master and the price threshold just turned me off from this. Gonna go for my usual $70-$80 monthly order of PAB instead and add to my current armies and projects. Seriously, Lego should just bring back the theme, and chill out with these inflated price thresholds. Do they not understand that the target audiences are spending most of their money on the current crazy food, gas and rent prices? We don't have hundreds, we got at best $100 to splurge.
People's expectations were way too high. It's a GWP, we were never getting all the stuff we wanted. The fact that we got a Dragon Knight torso is amazing. But new leg and torso prints for two minis along with a shield and helmet were never going to happen.
Such a let down... both overall appearance and minifigures. I hated those BURPs back then, I hate them even more now. The did such a good job with the Forest Hideout and now... but yeah, that was a 18+, 90th Anniversary set, this is a 12+ meant for children who can hit the 250$ threshold... damn 😅
All true, where is black helmet with dragon feathers? Where is shield? Where is Majisto print? Really disappointed, Lego really made this set without any effort... Not functional door is also a big error. The burps rock piece is all good for me, it's really practical for interior. I loved it when i was a kid. Last year Forestman gwp was great, but this is just bad. At least I hope they will make any new correctly updated Dragon masters minifigs (in small sets) and also Wolfpack. This way Lego would make things the right way for all Castle fans!
The original set was nothing to rave about either. The build has always sucked period. It was never about the build, and always all about the Minifigures. The build was just secondary to the minifigs. We are all disappointed bcoz Majisto has no print, the rumoured 2 knights turned out to be 1, and the worst of all: no shield, no proper helmet with the dragon plumes
I didn't really care for the wizard and didn't know he actually had a name but I liked the dragon masters knights or lords they really did a bad number on this set the remakes shuld always be more well thaught of creative and a bit bigger than the old pluss new prints and they didn't even try with both figures they shuld have given two newly printed sheilds, dragon masters and the newest Swords or whatever that suits them and a better looking print for the wizard
I think this simply wasnt the set to choose. If you think about it, to make a good Remake of the Dragon Masters LEGO would always have to do several new moulds and Prints. That was an unrealistic expectation to begin with. I think this set is inferior by far to the original. However taken out of this context and just looking at the new Set on its own, its quite the cute little modell. So all in all imo it is a nice little GWP that suffers heavily by the comparison to the original model.
Stumbled onto your channel and somewhat confused. Main criticisms here seem to be too simple and not ebough detail, but in one of your other most recent videos you and your guests complain that modern sets are too detailed. So just wondering what you think the happy medium looks like? You don't want burbs but do want the big prefabricated castle wall pieces?
These are worthwhile questions, thanks for asking! It's a matter of personal preference for me since I am not a fan of BURPs, but most castles have identical walls so I see no problem with those prefabs. You'll never see two identical rocks in the wild, though! My only hangup regarding prefab walls is that they're tastefully incorporated as opposed to a castle being a collection of them with a few plates slapped on top. The Kingdoms castle is an example of this technique done well.
@@BB2O2 thanks for the response! I myself love the direction of new sets with the brick built sections instead of giant molds. I'm 42, so I was a kid for many of the classic sets. And while they were awesome, I think many people get caught up in the nostalgia of their youth and don't realize how bland those big pieces were.
What a disappointment. I was really looking forward to this and especially looking forward for a new dragon knight figure considering that the falcon and lion factions got some nice upgrades… but damn… What a drag. The original figures of this set are way better. This new version sux bad. What a shame. Lego should look at what independent companies are doing like Ktown bricks to see what castle fans really want in figures. Ganna pass on this GWP.
I agree that the set itself does not look that good, but it's a GWP set, so I do not really care. And it's not like LEGO is required to make glorious GWP sets. When the biggest complaint is a set you get for free when buying other LEGO, you have it pretty good 🤣
But it's not free unless you think there's $250 worth of new Lego to spend money on. Otherwise, you're going to have to pay inflated prices on Bricklink. I'm a Castle-only buyer who already has the Lion Knights' Castle, so I'd have to buy an expensive set I didn't want just to get this.
@@BB2O2 Oh for sure, no way would I spend $250 on LEGO just to get this set. I am very selective as well and only have bought a handful of sets for myself since I'm mostly a MOC builder. I just think the public outcry from LEGO castle fans would be a bit more warranted if this set was sold regular retail and not just a GWP.
The issue is a mismatch in expectations. People are literally looking forward for a set hyped like this. Even do wait with other purchases to get a set like this. Than, the lego company give you this .
To whatever LEGO employee worked on this: well done! It's a faithful redo of the original with a few worthwhile improvements. It's a shame that they couldn't bring back the dragon masters helmet as it is such an iconic look
It's crazy, Ninjago gets new helmets every year.
@@LordShrubcollectible figs too, new molds for unknown characters
Isnt the most positive part being that pick a brick will make the dragon knight torso available again?
I'm hoping that the Dragon masters may be making a return possibly with the medieval market next year, but as always with LEGO, who knows?
are there sources for the interrior out?
Yeah I bet it comes back with the market too.
So what about the insides TODAY, lmao 😂
I hate it so much I made a fright knight version
I have to admit, a lot of your critiques are valid. IMO.
100% agreed. They really mailed it in on this one.
@@arbitrary2868 a proper scaled wolf pack water fortress with water portcullis would be amazing.
I like retro smiley faces there are none of them in these recent "vintage" gwp sets
Blue feathers replacing dragon piece too -- unforgivable! Lazy redeco, so bad.
People say, "oh, it's a gwp, it's fine!", but check out the Blacktron set: double printed torso!
The burp inclusion is great though, I'm surprised by that.
If I'm already buying to the threshold, I couldn't care less how good the GWP is, it's free parts and possibly free minifigs.
$250 is way too steep for this with how lacking the Minifigures are, hopefully the images are just placeholders for now
In my opinion it is a wonderful set and the threshold is perfect!
This combination will save my money because I don't like this version 😂
I grew up with this sets but this isn't a GWP which brings me to buy something with that big amount of money.
1. Where is a nice majisto?
The one of the BAM Tower of last year was outstanding, why didn't they used this minifigure
2. Where are the things which make the knight look like a dragon master?
No dragon shield, no dragon helmet
--> why they didn't use the designer which made the new bat knight for CMF series 25, that is a designer for such a job
3. Where is a difference to the original?
The only difference is a door from the shire without function and limb elements which are added by trunks instead of arches
And don't forget that they changed the dragon plume into a normal one - that really sucks
4. Only 1 part/new print in this whole set which should bait us?
OMG, what brings them to such a decision
All in all no set I wanted to buy - hopefully the torso would come in PAB online
You are forgetting the fact that the roof slopes are not as good as the original ones and the double corner palisade piece was a nice technique in the original set.
@@octav1600 correct, I really loved this slopes for this simple roof technic.
Castle GWP that are so popular and they slack out on this one...
But I do like the build!, minus the door I do like the build, excited to see the interior
Now on to my actual point, you made the point of innovating on what the original did, I believe the forest hideout is a MUCH better set for how it improves on the original while still FEELING like the original, I think a Majysto’s hut doesn’t do a good job at that despite the fact I said I like it
Have a good day man! Good video
Glad you enjoyed it!
What microphone does he use? He sounds very clear and crisp and I like it a lot!
Thanks for listening! I use a blue yeti.
Such a let down... both overall appearance and minifigures. I hated those BURPs back then, I hate them even more now. The did such a good job with the Forest Hideout and now... but yeah, that was a 18+, 90th Anniversary set, this is a 12+ meant for children who can hit the 250$ threshold... damn 😅
I think it’s ok. It’s not great but I feel the mini figs are half assed because it’s a GWP.
I wish the build was a bit better. I think it’s mid.
I 100% agree re the GWP. sigh...could have been SO much more
All true, where is black helmet with dragon feathers? Where is shield? Where is Majisto print? Really disappointed, Lego really made this set without any effort... Not functional door is also a big error. The burps rock piece is all good for me, it's really practical for interior. I loved it when i was a kid. Last year Forestman gwp was great, but this is just bad. At least I hope they will make any new correctly updated Dragon masters minifigs (in small sets) and also Wolfpack. This way Lego would make things the right way for all Castle fans!
El Dorado Fortress is good. I built it. Fun build. Good play features.
I think it's great. I was going to be buying sets this month anyway, so I'll end up with several of these for free...
O want a full castle theme!!! Make it a good one not like these crap GWP stuff.
Well I like it. Looks nice.
Its gwp, dont expect too much
I agree that the set itself does not look that good, but it's a GWP set, so I do not really care.
I don't see what the issue is. The original was not that great either.
Right, that's exactly the problem haha. 30 years to improve it and it's somehow worse
The issue is a mismatch in expectations. People are literally looking forward for a set hyped like this. Even do wait with other purchases to get a set like this. Than, the lego company give you this .
3 likes lol 😂
To whatever LEGO employee worked on this: well done! It's a faithful redo of the original with a few worthwhile improvements. I have no doubt you wanted a printed Majisto, glowing wand, and an appropriate helmet and shield for the knight, but TLG chose not to allocate the mold / recolor / or printing required. I appreciate what you did with what you had available!
🤮🤮🤮👎👎👎
THIS isnt new. Its a remake of an older set or design from older models. 💯%. See the more bilden fans get about there genre. The more critical they become over something they have ZERO control over.
