Back in late 80's and early 90's nagppunta kami sa CCP complex para maglaro ng iba't ibang sports. Maganda at maluwang ang pasyalan. So many memories their that i treasured most during my junior years. Thank you sir Fern sa episode na to.
Thank you uli sa historical information at napakagandang video.
this is by far one of the best in detailed explanation of what happened to this monumental structure that is Manila Film center.. one of the most controversial site ever made in 77 days and related stories behind this structure...thank kuya tubero.. the best ( merun pala SSS office sa seascape.. lapit sa amin pasay din ako) .. light brown eyes ni kuya.. ganda
Thanks for the brief view. It looks like a well-designed structure, not necessarily sound structure. Just like the Parthenon, it is now in ruins. The steps are nice just like the Parthenon. I guess lots of people will say the structure is cursed because of the lives lost. Expediency over safety. May they Rest In Peace.
That place also temporarily served as the office for the Department of Foreign Affairs. I had a neighbor before who told us about eerie tales about that place when it used to house the DFA. Hope you could also feature the story about the collapse of the Ruby Tower during the earthquake of 1968. Keep up the good work.
Tell us your story of the ruby tower I've been hearing that since I was a kid acvording to our journalism teacher there were only two Chinese kids whp survived the tragedy and the place where the tagedy happened is frequented by haunting and eerie sound of screeming and moaning

God bless you Ka utubeto.

I think the new incoming government should correct the mistakes of turning the building into a shrine to pay respects to the souls that are buried there.
Wow... naalala ko un kabataan ko.. dyan field trip namin un elementary not in school sa theater act school.. sa baba kami yan ngppraktis s parking at lalo n un H.S. nagbibike ako dyan... dyan pahingahan namin bago pabalik...
Its nice to restore the Film Center, it can be again one grandure structure but I think that they should use solar energy to power the building and be able to save electrical cost once it becomes operational again.
I Was lucky enough to get a chance to watch a movie on the opening of MlFF 82 . The ushers and usherretes that night were the stars of Regal Films . Me and my officemate don't watch movies at the downtown theaters anymore ,because we got a membership card for ECP(experimental cinema of the phils, then under Ms Imee Marcos) we just show our card and we have a 50% discount on the ticket price. Aside from that we are given the priority ,just like the seniors today , in the ticket line. I remember I seldom go to the film center when I enrolled in the computer class and eventually stopped when I transferred job in Makati. After Edsa 86 I happened to watch again there but it's just I don't like the ambiance anymore and there's there's no ECP anymore . The movie being shown were not as classic before (my own observation) in local theaters there was the trend "pene movie" until that major earthquake which greatly affeacted the manila Film Center.
Don't push it. its not worth restoring. The Manila Film Center was one of Imelda's waste of taxpayers money project just to show off to the world that the Philippines was advance and progressive but in actuality was a poor country. Imelda wanted the building rushed to completion for the grand opening of first International FilmFestival hence the construction was done on 7/24 shifts, due to negligence of the project engineers, the safety procedures and material specs were disregarded/ The scaffoldings collapsed and hundreds of workers fell on quick drying cements, trapped and died. Imelda ordered total black out of the news to avoid embarrassment and it was reported by some media networks that Imelda refuses to extract theworkersburied under cement because it will delay the grand opening date. Some relatives of those workers believed that dozens still buried there. This tragedy was one of Imelda's biggest scandal and people must never forget,
1984 may work order kami for telephone cable installation at 2 pm to 10 pm work schedule.routine work for identification kung tama ang cable pairs st open, 7 pm noon at ako ang nilagay nila sa may basement doon kasi ang electrical room ang hindi natapos ang trabaho dahil hindi ko maintihan ang naramdaman ko sobrang lamig kahit di ventilated ang electrical room at lumabas ako sa gusali, ibang klase talaga ang film center building maraming kabalaghan...
Its so sad to see that you featured MFC in a sorry state by now, but im also glad that there is a plan to revive this beautiful structure, like the metropolitan theatre in lawton. i had wonderful memories in MFC,wherein i watched MIFF there maybe 1982. it was only 20 pesos to watch, lower than commercial theatres,i remembered ECP watching movies like 'Isla" Scorpio Nights" ORo Plata Mata" VirginForest? directed by Celso Ad Castillo,Peque Gallaga, these directors are geniuses and can be at par with Martin Scorsese,Dino de Laurentis,Steven spielberg, wherein they also featured their films here.

It's a jinx for decades. Better pulvurized it. There is no justice for the lost souls until now. And the former FL still enjoys. Iba talaga Ang may billiones.
Just a correction. Don't know where you got your figures. Walo lang ang namatay kasi ang naiwan na crew during the pouring was only 40 workers.
The Golden years of Philippine cinema and our niegboring Asian countries got envy with us. Thank you madame Imelda Marcos for your contribution for the culture and the arts.
We have spent the night there when it was still an active theater. We were having rehearsals for a play ( Giselle Sanchez) was the headliner. It was a stormy night and we did experience spooky moments there. And the guards did tell their experiences too. I also use the MFC as my end point when i was jogging from Taft.
I was one among chosen foreign guest ushers during MIFF. I wasn't aware of that said accident. It was the attention of an extravagant atmosphere that time with red carpet flooring all through the alleys that I would always like to remember. But at some point, whenever i walked alone in quiet alleys, I feel uncomfortable. It feels like someone is watching me.
Howie Severino did a feature story on the Film Center years back. Considering his UP days, I expected it to be one sided. However, it turned out to be an eye opener because he searched for names and relatives of those who died during the construction as well as records about them.

1984 Manila International Film Festival.

during the 80's i saw Imelda Marcos wearing a beautiful yellow terno matching with a yellow diamond so gorgeous look like a queen I'm so proud for being a Filipino during that time. Do it once again our beloved first lady ❤
Better demolish the film center. Turn it to a small beautiful peaceful memorial for the construction workers who lost their lives because of the former FL. And never received Justice.
Yung Amazing Philippines, no choice but to rent the area kase it's a theatrical area naman na yun naman ang hinahanap ng company na yun, for the 2nd time after ilang years ay muli silang nakabalik dyan.
Kung magsasagawa ang pamahalaan ng isang masusing imbestigasyon to be conducted by structural and forensic engineers, ang hula ko is that this building will be found to be beyond repair or rehabilitation. Impractical at infeasible n to bring up the MFC to current building codes & earthquake requirements. IMO it should be condemned & shut down for safety reasons. I believe the best thing to do is to demolish the building & clear the site for a future development that is more responsive & relevant to the times. Arkitekto ako based in San Francisco, CA. I enjoy your vlogs & keep up the good work 👍
Sayang talaga, kahit sa creepy backstory nang building, this should have been preserved. Wala e., nadamay sa away nang dilaw at red. even if it was a project of the former first lady, it was built using Filipino taxes so it should have been cared for and maintained. marami na nga buhay nasawi pinabayaan pa mabulok.
Im not saying na kalimutan ang history pero we have to live and suvive for present and future.
This is just me "Monday morning quarter backing ", so take it for whatever it"s worth. Wether you agree or not, this was one of those "Vanity" projects that the Marcoses had despite the high level of poverty in the country during their rein. (19:47) At 40 years since it was built, was the structural depreciation and lives lost worth the expenditure? For me, definitely not. I grew up around the area and had seen first hand the convoys of trucks carrying materials for the projects and the amount of dust it heaped on practically everyones home. I was also lucky enough to have watched foreign movies showcased during its early days due to relatives working there being given complimentary tickets for perks or maybe to fill in empty seats, so it has a personal connection. But the bigger question for me is: Will anybody be held accountable for those lives lost due to apparent negligence and dereliction of duties despite the passage of time? Obviously, there are people connected to it that are still alive. Where I live right now, we are trying to correct the wrongdoing of the past decades and are holding perpetrators accountable for their heinous crimes. I think it's wishful thinking, but the love ones of those who perished merely trying to eke out a living but sadly died that fateful day, must be given justice and dignity for their painful loss. Well, this is getting too long. As always, fantastic job Sir. Thank you.
Fill an empty seats ? Why you did not see those people lining up to watch during the film festival ? That due to lack of theaters in the venue they resorted to show some of the movies in commercial theaters in metro manila. The problem with opposition then and now is that they don't dig deeper on what really happened and who should take full responsibility . For them it was enough that they blamed the Marcoses. Come to think of it why did the mother and son presidents did not bother to find out who killed Ninoy Aquino ? So you think they will take the cudgel to investigate on what happened in that accident?
For me it's not "vanity" it's "foresight" if not for the reclamation started by Mrs Marcos there would be no thousands hectares of prime properties extending outside of Roxas Boulevard. Long before that resort airport in Singapore, became popular Mrs Marcos has built the Nayong Pilipino and Philippine Village Hotel. If only the following administrations has followed/ continued the projects ..but worse not major infrastructure was built until du30...
@@aprealstatetraveletc.. Dude, It would have been fun to rebut every single argument you have put forward here but the fact that you described Ninoy Aquiino's assassination as an "accident" speaks volumes about your perception of reality. You have a nice day, Sir.
We were not living in poverty that time. We dont eat round scud fish and chicken intestines that time. Mrs Marcos build that to be a monument for film arts. Why would some people blame her for the accident when it should be the safety officer or the builder. Poverty happens only for people trying to have living that came from neighboring provinces. Not knowing abundance is in the place of their origin. Mindset was the problem. Wrong mindset results in poverty not the government. Cheers!

Destroy this $25 million graveyard now. It was built with the BEST intentions, but the WORST construction deadline. It holds too many painful memories of November 17th, 1981, and ghosts, and innocent lives that perished because of Imelda's rushed deadline of THREE MONTHS. The people who were unfairly left to die in concrete and plaster, deserve more than this. I don't care if they rebuild the center elsewhere in Manila, but THIS location should be razed and turned into a memorial. This tragedy, above all, was the personification and crowning glory of Imelda's greed and social climbing, far more than her overconsumption of shoes. May the souls who died here in 1981, be restored with dignity and received by the angels with grace.

In my opinion, in every gigantic construction project we cannot predict an accident, most of time there are casualties. The designer, Engineers, and Architects, Contractors should be all working together to keep the project as safe as possible for everyone especially the construction workers. I hope this tragedy would remind us that "safety is 1st priority" than be sorry later. It's a waste not to restore it but maybe they can transform it into a shopping mall, park, school, museum, water park, etc. Thanks.

Thank you uli sa historical information at napakagandang video.

Everything needs to be verified nowadays. Di dapat mag rely sa rumors and urband legend. To find the truth, we need to research and debate about it.
@@hjon9119 Sa True Very Well Said

The Manila Film Center to be renovated and it would revive the Manila International Film Festival

Di puede maging one sided kse ang dami talaga namatay. Pinamadali ni Imelda para pang show off habang hirap na hirap ang maraming Pilipino..sana di na maulit

Base s napanood ko s video mo & the fact n mukhang nagsuffer ang gusali ng malubhang structural damage noong 1990 earthquake, malakas ang hinala ko n hindi n safe for occupancy ang MFC.

It's a waste not to restore it but maybe they can
transform it into a shopping mall, park, school, museum, water park, etc. Thanks.
