The nuts are fantastic. The wood is gorgeous when finished. Hope they return.....

I have a old American chesnut in my backyard and lately I've been trying to plant the seeds to help the population and so far two of the seeds have sprouted. I know it not much but its something.

I grew up in a house built in 1928 that was all trimmed out with Chestnut. Beautiful wood.

I don't understand why the nuts won't grow and how a tree propagates by itself in the wild

i wonder how Ireland overcame the devastating potato blight. I've got a couple of chestnut trees i've grown myself from seed - I'm in Australia so they wouldn't be Castanea dentata, your chestnut, but some spanish or european variety. They're beautiful trees alright. Very best wishes in your endeavour to get your chestnut re-established.

The blight was brought in as a gift from the emperor of china to the mayor of New York City, it was a gift of 2 Chinese chestnut trees and it all spread from that one simple goodhearted but evil gesture.

CTWhiteMemorial can you believe everything we have going on with our environment? Invasive species like never before. People bringing fish as pets then turning them loose in our waters? I don't understand what happened. Were a lot of laws changed? The constrictors in the Everglades . All the insects. Wewww.

Am I the only one whose dad taught him to identify trees in all seasons? What do you talk about?
