Anna literally carried the whole show and its aging script, she was the only reason I kept watching Titans. I’m still mad about Blue Beetle’s performance in the box office, because a sequel would have introduced Starfire and teased the Titans. Giving Anna a chance at reprising the role.
Anna Diop was literally the main reason I was so invested in this show. She has and always will be my top pick for a live action Storm for X-Men. With that being said I couldn't help but think that her character and especially in the latter seasons when she fully embraced her nobility, was so obviously "Storm-coded" I think a lot of people would expect exactly this kind of demeanor for a live-action Storm much to the opposite of Halle Berry or Alexandra Shipps portrayal. But like I say with all ambiguous adoptions, she did the best she could with what she was given. But hands down she carried the show in many ways.
Anna diop was so awesome as starfire. I didn't know what to think when she was first introduced. I quickly realized she was the one. Just wish the show was better.
The writers and designers failed her so hard... In an interview she said after the show ended, she said they didn't even give her good lighting in her scenes. So yeah... I'd say she agrees lol.
@@StormKoriHQ Anna Diop is so regal, I wouldn't mind her as Storm in the MCU movies. However, S1 Starfire would've worked with Shanola Hampton, the Shameless actress's charisma and sultry confidence. Anna Diop has immigrant parents from Africa and I've noticed they're restrained in their acting due to their reserved upbringing whereas Shanola naturally embraced sexual nature of her character and killed it in 11 seasons of Shameless.
Anna is such an excellent actress that she was amazing even with a poorly written character, Starfire from Titans only has Starfire's personality, they greatly diminished her story and powers, They gave her amnesia from a car crash, Starfire is durable enough to fight Wonder Woman, Starfire's strength is only shown in one scene, and in season 2 they simply take away her powers.Hers and she returns with them dunada, but only to discover that they weren't even hers, Starfire has a great story of overcoming, she was a slave and in the series they simply forgot the whole plot that made the stunning character .Starfire was shown to be powerful at one point, and then they diminished her at another. She seemed more like a metahuman than an alien, and they also erased the fact that she didn't know anything about Earth It would be cool to see her learn
This does go more in detail than the casting being off but also fundamentally how the writers and producers screwed over Starfire out of ignorance. And Ann Diop was to good for this show and I can respect how she didn't say anything online about the fans and kept it professional. But I got say they could've casted her as Pantha possibly, but even that wouldn't help this show.
Look I know a lot of peoplepp didn’t vibe with the Titans storytelling and I totally get why cuz it had a lot of flaws but I’ll FIRMLY die on the hill that the cast was NEVER the problem and They embodied the charactersp SUPER WELL. The chemistry was there and they understood the roles. I REALLY like Starfire being played by a black woman honestly and I say this as a 25 yrd old white guy, and while I really want her to be orange in future adaption I do think they should cast another woman of color in the role cuz it just FITS imho🙏🏻 the writing jsut failed Ana Diop entirely. Had the writing and visuals been better I firmly believe she’d have been the PERFECT performer to be her. I’ve been a lifelong Titans fan and I’m jsut super happy her and Raven have gotten the REAL respect they’ve earned the past few years in the comics and stuff. They’re powerhouses of the DC universe and deserves to be treated as such 😤👏 Can’t wait to see future adaptions of her cuz she’s gonna be powerful AF
This is a very heated topic especially on Twitter. Some Annafire stans were saying bad things about George Pérez when someone posted that he viewed Starfire having a white actress. I think Anna tried he best with what she was given but the end result wasn't good. I feel like the writers just didn't understand the source material You could tell later on they tried to incorporate everyone's iconic character traits but it was too little too late and it clashed sith what they had previously established. Titans was failed from Day 1 and it's very unfortunate. I honestly believe if the show had Doom Patrol's team it would've been a LOT better. I believe it Anna had her S3 suit in S1, better hair, and they attempted to at least give her tint a golden hue + at least SOME of her comic traits people would've been fine with it. The rest of the cast needed work too and for Beast Boy if they couldn't afford to do his powerset on a TV budget they should've left him out and used someone else.
@@aiwrld_442 One of George Perez's inspiration for Starfire was Latina dance who at that time during the 80s you really could see how Kory was inspired by her. Honestly thought that someone Hispanic as Starfire would be easier to translate her comic skin color without getting messy with body paint or CGI.
Great video. As a big Titans fan, I don't disagree with anything said here (though I was surprised at how easily I remembered the whole blackfire powers thing). For any of the people who were disappointed by this show (and Titans fans too), I would like to recommend the Titans United comics. They're not amazing, but I'm sure it's more along the lines of what this show could've been.
@@StormKoriHQ 22:00 Actually, I like this. Remember how when black people die, especially black women at the hands of white police officers, they blame the victim? Titians was a political show and didn't stray from commentary about police brutality. None of the police took accountability for Bryant's and Sonya Massey's murder? Now the shoe is on the other foot. Yes, he was a troubled kid but most black people who get shot by police phoned the police for help and they ended up killing them.
i agree with everything that you said tamaraneans being black coded isn’t too far off even the way their skin absorbs and redistributes solar energy is interesting.
@@firepuppies4086 honestly I never saw starfire being played by a black or white girl Shes always seemed like she would be a played by someone hispanic or Puerto rican. Or Dominican or even cuben yk something in that group
I feel so sorry for this actress. She did the best she could with BS writing. Poor Anna she is an amazing actress, so to get so much discourse about her casting had me raging. She is gorgeous and could have knocked it out of the park, there was weird ass lighting, really horrible writing and in the final scene seeing Anna happy skipping and pulling Brenton along I was waving at the screen going "Oh so they finally decided now was perfect time to have her act more like Starfire. ARGH!" Though I will admit I've enjoyed parts of Titan as a series, but there were alot of times I was in angry gamer controller breaking mode. I felt for this cast I really did. The writer's knew it was bad, why else would they include Batman, they they are doing it for clickbait because people wanna see it and they don't trust their own writing abilities. But I will defend Anna because I know Starfire would of been perfect for her if they got it right in the first season.
Not "angry gamer controller breaking mode" lmao. But I'm right there with you. And that's a really good point about the closing shot. Now she's all bubbly but we're all watching like "NAH IT'S TOO LATE NOW"
I think Anna was a good actress for Starfire and played her pretty well. I hate that she didn’t get as much focus as she deserved because the show wanted to be a Batman project so bad. Like they hyped up season 3 to be an adaptation of the Blackfire saga, only for it to be a terrible adaptation of Under the Red Hood, which is a Batman storyline.
I honestly can’t wait for the DCU’s interpretation of Starfire. I hope James Gunn gives her all the respect I think she should have as my favorite DC heroine
Her fight with the Terminator is ridiculous, in the comics she literally makes him run away and blow up a building on top of her so he can escape and in the series she almost dies.
I loved Anna as starve still confused on why ppl hated the fact she was black cause it made sense starfire design in the comics was based of black women and she’s obv orange alien meaning that pretty much anyone could play her they could get a white person then make her orange but that would be to much work I personally think Anna was the best star fire
36:20 WHAT THE FUCK IS LIVE ACTION DC’s OBSESSION WITH GIVING LEX LUTHOR A BEARD?! Supergirl, Titans, Superman and Lois. If the dude has a beard, it doesn’t look like Lex Luthor.
I can't recall the show much, but I wasn't crazy about how they made Blackfire sympathetic by having Starfire the older sister. That said, I was kinda on board with Kom and Conner--"Titans United" made sure to put an end to that possibility in comics, though.
Out of all the changes made to Starfire & the Tamaraneans, that one had me spinning the hardest. Totally unnecessary and didn't add anything to the characters/story at all. Like, why reduce her character so badly? Just incompetence, I guess 🤷🏿
@@StormKoriHQ I just need a Starfire series. Give us her family, Ph'yzzon, Xan'dr, and some other threats. The trauma she experienced is full of emotional impact and a powerful tale of overcoming incresible odds.
In regards to her physical look, Hollywood has an aversion to giving characters opaque, solid color eyes for some reason and I hate it because it really does remove some of the fun from a design like Starfire's
I think it’s bc honestly it just doesn’t translate well on screen / live action and to make it look decent is costly. I can see for higher budget things like a marvel movie, but for an hbo max series / show I don’t think they had the money to do that without it looking really scary and quite frankly bad.
This is why i will always prefer Starfire from the comics because no matter how she is handled in animation or live action, neither can be accurate or properly adapt her character right. Like come on, it's not that hard.
i’m an anna kory defender but simply for anna herself and because i love starfire. Titans was a steaming pile of shit but Anna being an amazing actress, my love for starfire and the fact that bigots were being racist af to anna made me ride for her version of the character for what it was. i agree with all your points as i’ve always felt the same watching the show and how they screwed her knowing she was carrying the show and the reason most were tuning into the show. i think instead of saying kory is black coded it’s better to just say kory is poc coded. a lot of different cultures and ppl inspire tamaran and i think it fits for kory to be played by someone who is a person of color. i didn’t even mind kory not being orange in the show even tho i preferred her be orange because it kinda made sense in my mind tameraneans being black. but over all the cast was never the problem with titans. it was the budget, writers, and producers of the show that failed their cast and anna took the most of that hate and criticism because of her race and that never sat right with me. anyways.. from a life long starfire fan great video and analysis!
I’m not against her, not her fault the writing was terrible, and I want to point out that as long as starfire is orange skinned and is written well and acts like Starfire idc what actress plays her 😅
I never realized this until now, but I unintentionally based the personality of one of my superheroes on Anna Diop’s version of Starfire. It’s even more interesting with the fact that my superhero is mostly based on Starfire herself except she’s more viewed as the Wonder Woman of the team I have.
People would have been made if they got a light skin woman to play her and didn't change her skin color too. Look at how we reacted to King Piccolo in Dragon Ball Evolution, they had to go back and change his appearance to make it manga accurate.
you could make a video of what you would change about Starfire from Titans in story and bring it up it would be awesome to see your point since I agreed with everything in the video.
She was doomed to begin with from the writing alone. Casting can only go so far without the essential things pointed out in this video being up to par. Starfire wasn't the only character who got butchered, Raven, Beast Boy, Donna, Aqualad, just to name a few, suffered so much because of the show's incompetence. It's just like with any other actor, these people have to work with what they're dealt with, and Anna did an exceptional job.
Grayson suffered the most. Let’s not forget THIS Dick Grayson assaulted an innocent man to put himself in prison, because he felt “guilty”….only to escape as a convict and it’s never mentioned ever again
I have zero issues with the color of the actresses skin playing starfire. My only problem is that it's not starfire we are seeing. Starfire is supposed to be a big ball of energy and extremely sweet and innocent. This version of starfire is more like her sister blackfire. Mantis from guardians of the galaxy is a perfect example of how starfire was meant to be played. Starfire was never dumb, just an alien who is learning how to be human.
I think the show made this a bigger problem than it should have been. Just make her orange, she’s an alien lol. No one cares that Zoe Saldana wasn’t white because she was actually green while playing gamora
Great video but lacking a whole part on the fact that Anna went public saying the lights on the show weren't for black skin and she suffered from feeling invisible on a lot of shots, I can't find the youtube video I saw many years earlier with examples and her podcast interview but that was a whole very intersting thing about black skin showed on screen and our girl definetly was right about the whole thing, I think improvment was done after she asked but she still got kind of blacklisted for that...
Valid point, and it just highlights how dirty she was done from minute one. I don't think she even likes talking about the show anymore and I don't blame her! Hopefully her career bounces back because she deserves so much better. Thanks for bringing that up
Dude you do such a good job with your videos. I get excited for what you're excited for because of how well you articulate what you love about Storm and Starfire and what makes them the characters they are. This video is a great one that's very level headed funny, and most importantly not mean spirited. I couldn't finish this show either, but casting wasn't my issue with it. So thanks for trying to be a positive influence in our fandom circle of super babe lovers. Keep simping fellow.
Titans had so much potential to be one of the best live action DC shows. I thought the casting with the exception of Bruce Wayne was great and the costumes and action scenes were on point. The writing and a lot of the choices they made were horrible. The first season was okay but the show got so bad that I had to tap out in the middle of season 3.
When I’ve seen the first trailer for the first season, I thought it was too grim since I grew up with the animated series from the 2000s. But I have given myself the time to check out breakdown shows of the character from any iterations from comic channels they can provide as much info as possible, like Comic Drake. I’ve heard of the backlash because the actress is black, I’d just brush it off because I only care how her role is portrayed. I mean yeah they could a tad bit more accurate if they chose to, like how you say that fans already did it with barely a budget like cosplayers or Diop fans.
Hey, would you make a video like this about Raven? I think out of all of the titans characters she's the most under used and sidelined considering her connection to trigon. I liked the actress, I thought she had potential but like starfire the writers did her dirty too.
I’d start with the classic line up Dick, Barbara and Tim, (give Jason his time in between or in flashbacks) Once Barbara isn’t able to be Batgirl anymore usher in Casandra with Tim still around. Eventually bring in Damien with Steph as batgirl being his counterpart. For the most part sticking to two active side kicks at once.
I dont see why people complain so much we would never had even gotten so far to finally see a live action of Teen Titans if it weren't for all the inspiration of the comic books and the little animation cartoons which didnt even reflect the entire team of the Titans there was no Kidflash no Bumblebee no Mal No Lilith No Cyborg etc but still the show was entertaining my only disappointment was not seeing her fly with all of her powers and her alien physiology makes her difficult to be knocked out by any human means they lack the funds to create real VFX CGI etc in fact most of the casts lacked their comic book counterparts
Why were fans mad? Simple, she looks nothing like the character. Starfire is an orange alien, that's just a black woman. And personally, considering who she was designed off of initially I would appreciate Starfire being played by a black woman, but she has to be orange. Otherwise she's just a human, that's boring! It's like if Gamaro, the green alien chick from Marvel also played by a woman of color, just had a regular skin tone. What's the point? How are you an alien exactly? Fans may have gone overboard, attacking the actress, who at the end of the day is just trying to get a job. But they're not wrong to dislike the casting
It's not even a casting issue and even then, that still isn't Anna's fault, that's the costume/look department's responsibility if anything. She has no control over that, and she shouldn't have to, nor attacked for it, because that's not in her job description. She's getting paid to act/read lines.
@@StormKoriHQ fair question but the same thing can.be asked, why does she have to be white? Or why does characters like Ariel have to be white? Why does some comic characters like wally or Tim have to be white? If we can be ok with white actors playing roles of characters who weren't white. Then same should be the other way around. Aang and goku live action actors were white. (I still dont see an issue cause they are just doing their jobs and shouldn't be harassed for existing and were best for the roles for how it is) same thing with characters like Dr who where ppl stoll coming that the doctor was played by a woman and now complaint that it is a black gay actor playing the role, making claims that " the doctor isn't black, it isn't racist for me to say this but the doctor is white and always will be white, this goes against the show. The character and the lore" when it is flat out racist and shows that they never saw the show nor know anything about the lore. When the doctor is a shape-shifting. For starfire? I still don't care cause the actress skin color shouldn't matter cause it is fiction for the show. So anyone should be play the character.
Loving this review and critique. Want to see full tv Titans series review. You called it in so many points. Jack writers are quick to kill, off characters with no point or payoff. Blackfire wouldve imprisoned and/or humiliated her parents. There was so much story potential with Tamara. Reminds me of the story point of all the gods being killed in the Wonder Woman movie. What was the point of her being the daughter of Zeus with almost all her family, especially her dad- dead? Also, most of WW is centered around gods, so in the second movie- the root of her problem is a good artifact. It would make more sense if it was the actual god. I love the comic history and relationship of these two sisters. I wanted an optimistic but fierce warrior Starfire. Love to see your review of Raven and Beast Boy. I can’t get over Trigon being taken out like a chump by Blood.
I definitely hear people's grievances regarding her lack of orange skin (but in all respects she'd look like a adult oompa loompa lol) but in retrospect in oreder to have skin with color you'd have to be a melanated person so i guess they tried to use that angle. The lack beast boy ising his powers (when he does all the time in comics/ cartoons) was disappointing but nightwing being ultra aggro & training jason tracks given his trauma, etc.
To be honest the budget was too small as compared to what the titans need. A shapeshifting green man, orange alien and half demon require a lot of budget especially if all of them are the main character. A show with that unique of a team needs a high budget
I never watched this show though I don't have an issue with the actress. The fact she was getting grief for being black is nauseating. I'm sick of racist "fans" of comics and the like behaving as though black people in fiction shouldn't exist or be regulated a very far off to the side. That's some B.S.
I think she was a perfect casting, Anna Diop looks like Starfire minus orange skin and she made a decent acting job. I don't really mind that, actually, it's perfectly reasonable to think that they could just make her skin orange with body paint or something. A character's look matter, but in the end, it is about the character itself more than how it looks. And that's why the show failed to portray Starfire. Titans is a horribly written show, Starfire's just a part of it. Any character that's not named Dick Grayson gets 0 o 1% of screen time, I mean, Beast Boy had to wait until the FINALE SEASON to get an actual storyline!!! This version of Starfire is bad not because of her race or skin color, but because the writers and producers made a terrible job. The show is bad, and it sucks because it had so much potential.
I used to watch and like this show in high school (honestly I really liked Dick Graysons, super boys, Donna Troy, Rose, Jericho, and Beast Boys actors throughout the show) but I gave up after how bad the s2 finale was and when they made red hood scare crows bitch I completely gave up.
Whenever there's an insane amount of hate and racism towards a character or actor, fans tend to get so hyper defensive and protective that any criticism immediately gets dismissed and rebuffed as baseless hate. Same thing happened with Amber from Invincible. Insanely overhated, however, the writers DID fuck up her character with the infamous breakup scene in episode 6. They even admitted to it, but her fans didn't want to accept that and still insist that all the criticism was just misogynoir.
Big marvel fan no prior knowledge of of teen titans before watching this show. I didn’t MOST of the cast of the show including Anna . she basically accept that her sister kills her lover for no reason, like what ?🤨 I wasn’t aware of the orange thing or even the internet controversies. But she does look like a stripper season 1 wasn’t a fan. Also a lot of the cast is just useless including her. You would think she could finish death stroke easy but for plot point sake she doesn’t..
It’s sad how much hate the actress got. She looked great and did the best she could. Not her fault the writers sucked and her costume originally didn’t look good. Anna deserved better
This is what annoyed me the most about the show, it was how everyone's powers were handled. I get that they can only do so much with a budget but from what I read, the show had about the same budget as Stargirl and that show was nearly identical to its source material, even power-wise. Beast Boy could only turn into a tiger for more than half of the show's duration, the visuals for Raven's powers just looked cheap, Starfire couldn't even "fly" until Season 3 (if you can even call it that) and fully fly in Season 4. On top of that, her strength was heavily reduced to enhanced human just like Donna when they should've been as strong as Superboy relatively. Donna could only jump really high like Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman, had no bracelets. Hawk & Dove were reduced to basic humans when their powers are magic-based.
Yeah, what frustrated me the most about Titans is that the casting for most of these characters was so amazingly perfect, but the writing for the characters ruined their great casting. Honestly, I think unfortunately a lot of the choices they made with Starfire, like no orange skin and no flying, was likely due to budget constraints and if that's the case, it's a shame. I gotta disagree about her super suit, though. It was pretty different from the comics, but i loved it. The purple with gold accents and the intricate details looked really good to me. I feel like if it was too simple, it would have looked like a cheap cosplay, so it's okay that it was a "busy" design. Otherwise, I agree with pretty much everything else said. But I love Anna and would love them to cast her as Storm in the MCU. I think she would be an amazing choice to be Ororo.
Styling really makes a charecter, and innthis project the bugdet was all the way to the cemetery...😓😓😓 I don't know who in their right mind could have phucked up so horribly when it came to hair and style when they had the comics for reference, but they did so MAYORLY.
I feel like they should have chosen a redbone to play as her or a black girl with a lighter shade of brown or an Hispanic . Or a Racially Ambiguous women to play as her
I can definitely see all of those working, but don't think it was a requirement. Just because SF has been drawn so many wildly different ways. But as long as she's orange on screen, I'm good with w/e race. That being said, expect to see some women of that description in my list when the time comes lol
@@StormKoriHQ it should have been a requirement lmao . But her character did kinda grow on me a lil .but on some scenes it was like they just said fk lotion we just going to have her ashy out in the streets . It made no damn sense for how ashy they had her on some episodes 😂🤣
Meanwhile in the comics her powers are not green 24 7, due the people make her powers most of the time a flame look but still its a blast that comes from her hands may have a slight green hue but most of the time it's redish-orange .. DC animation are not even doing her correctly but people think this is correct, if you are not paying attention to her in comics.
@@VengeDracul ohh alright then I didn't know that cuz I actually never read the comics but I grew up watching the Teen Titans original show so I got used to that version of Starfire and also later on watched all the dc amu movies and in that version it was like she is the Teen Titans' Starfire but grew up soo anyways also think that her green powers looks cool but thanks for the info I appreciate it dude😅👊🏻
Thank you for making a video about this I dropped the show hard after season 2 18:52 it make me think of a bad version of the outfit she wore in the injustice 2 game
The problem is if you were to call her a meta human from earth then it would be an honest mistake because she is barley an alien in this show. She basically talks and acts human. Does not have green eyes or her alien golden skin color and her like the others stories are half baked.
Season 1 with her was absolutely RUSHED and I didn't like the hooker aspect even though she was sleeping around in the comics. But they turned her around so much later on. I still love her scenes with Blackfire.
18:27 this bit brings up an aspect I really find odd about the show. It’s weird awful choice and place, ent of licensed music. The weirdest and most unfitting choices I’ve ever heard for a show. Like Arrow and Flash weren’t perfect at it either but they at least sometimes picked good songs fitting songs. I don’t think there’s one licensed song Titans picked that didn’t feel weird to me.
Ugh I hate that people cry woke and DEI at everything now and I hate this myth of "Red head erasure" in hollywood Kori like Ariel is not a "white european ginger" they are non humans with red hair. No one cried red head erasure when Megan Fox played April O'Neal or Kirsten Dunst played MJ
And for all the people mad that they made Starfire a black woman in the color spectrum there is no Brown, to make brown you need to darken the orange if you don't believe me go on your computer's color wheel and make brown. so truthfully Brown is dark dark orange. So why would she be a white woman if Brown is the closest thing to orange. Stop being racist and just enjoy, or don't enjoy the movie, or show. Gossshhhh
Dude, cut the nonsense, they literally made a black woman green for Guardians of the Galaxy. They can make the same pigment skin for Starfire if they really wanted to but didn't.
The show was definitely underwhelming probably too big of a show for a small screen… But as for the actress, I would love to see someone or complexion and statue to play marvels storm. The actress has something regal about her.
By season 4 she was pretty perfect, ill nevwr understand why they had the chance to correct hwr powers and they made them.blue like you were so fucking close lol
The show in general was....trash and thats me being very kind about it, Ana was fine wasn't her best performance as an actor but she was okay a bit dull at a time but then again the overall show was dull the writing just garbage people praise Raven but like Raven is supposed to control her emotions the whole reason for the creation of her character was that she have to maintain her emotions the Raven we got girl was unbridled she out emotioned Starfire thats what throws me off her emotions were extreme, dramatic and just overall unbridled which is idk what they're going for I guess but it just pulls down the overall storytelling and characters imo if anyone like Drama Queen Raven I guess good for you all.... Starfire they don't gave her a starbolt but instead gave her flamethrower was boring I find that very boring and lackluster it made her slow and clunky she doesn't look fluid in her movements, they should color her skin in full honesty tho. And here's a conversation that a lot of you are not ready and that is Starfire's name, her culture and her overall name is actually middle eastern and specially Mediterranean and Indian so her name Kori'nder is taken from a spice originated in Mediterranean Coriander is what Itlians called it, and then Tamarind is a name derived from Persian tamar-i-hind meaning dates from India, and guess what Kori outfits designs comes from? Yeah? Its a belly dancer outfit that originated from the Mediterranean area...So yeah Her name and outfit design were highly Middle Eastern and you know what Mediterranean genetic make-up is?Yeah Gold-olive skin, curly hair and green-olive-hazel eyes
I shouldn't have said "a lot of" but yea, there's a good few TT fans who really didn't like the cartoon's vision of the characters. Look closely and you'll see some of them in my comments sections lol. A lot of them are older Gen-X who grew up with the Wolfman & Perez comics
The way Starfire is in comics, good luck trying to put her one screen correctly. For one her race are very sexual and are not scared to show who they are. Even back in the 80s when she was introduced, she always wore a very revealing outfit. Even now may not be as revealing but it shows her curves. And people saying they can't get her complexion correct, they could have done her skin tone correctly but didn't. In truth they toned her down for this show. Darkfire is the oldest between them. As for her powers they screwed that all up. The DC animated movies with Starfire come pretty damn close to how she is in the comics. She is very naive. No way in the world they can actually put her in a movie or show how she is in the comics. Especially how she was in the 80s. People would loose their minds and the show would be canceled in a week or less. Be glad you have this version of her, tho I didn't like this version of her at all. Close but no.
If this were the 90s or early 2000s I'd say that's a valid point, but keep in mind when this show came out, we were practically done with the Infinity Saga in the MCU. A whole universe with larger than life sci fi and fantasy type superheroes. Not to mention the DCEU (very hit or miss but you get my point). So I don't think there was anything about Starfire that was so hard to do or complicated, that they couldn't have done it well if they tried. It felt like they were just more interested in doing their own thing without even trying to adapt her character faithfully.
@@royaltywalker7354 but both universes have created movies that people enjoy, hardcore fans and casual movie goers alike. Proving that these kinds of characters can be faithfully adapted. Even if budget restrictions kept them from going all the way. And several of the things that didn't work about Starfire are just due to creative changes, not budgetary restrictions. That would applies to her powers, but what about her personality? Her role in the story or her character arcs? It costs nothing to get those right, they just chose not to.
@@royaltywalker7354that’s not really a compelling argument. It was their first attempt, but that doesn’t make that attempt exempt from critique. The writing was the weakest aspect of,the show, and its show through how they portrayed these characters.
Can't blame her for how bad Starfire turned out. I blame the writers and producers.
Exactly
Facts
Like you should, actors have nothing to do with how the character is, they just have to play it
Most definitely
Don’t forget the costume selector because designer is too nice

I’m still mad about Blue Beetle’s performance in the box office, because a sequel would have introduced Starfire and teased the Titans. Giving Anna a chance at reprising the role.
They wouldn't have crossed the show into the the movies anyway.
They never would’ve had Titans touch even an atom of the New DC Universe. Titans was a failure.

I know it was probably a budget thing, but I wish they used the orange skin and fiery hair as her main look.
@@suzygirl1843shiiiiiit I’d pay Top dollar to see her as the MCU’s Storm! That’d be awesome!! ❤
There should be a season 5... the show is good
✌🏻
They’re powerhouses of the DC universe and deserves to be treated as such 😤👏
Can’t wait to see future adaptions of her cuz she’s gonna be powerful AF
@@AustinSamson1999 I just hate how they did beast boy atleast make him GREEN
This is a very heated topic especially on Twitter. Some Annafire stans were saying bad things about George Pérez when someone posted that he viewed Starfire having a white actress.
I think Anna tried he best with what she was given but the end result wasn't good.
I feel like the writers just didn't understand the source material
You could tell later on they tried to incorporate everyone's iconic character traits but it was too little too late and it clashed sith what they had previously established.
@@kory7698 honestly I never saw star as being black or white she seemed hispanic so I thought they would cast someone who's in that group
@@kelpietales4503the only thing that bugs me is beast boy isn't GREEN in this show even though beast boys skin is GREEN 😔
Read those for the first time a few months ago and my life is better for it lol. Hard recommend
Yes, he was a troubled kid but most black people who get shot by police phoned the police for help and they ended up killing them.
i agree with everything that you said
tamaraneans being black coded isn’t too far off even the way their skin absorbs and redistributes solar energy is interesting.
Also like.. from a logistics standpoint... Would they rather a white girl who has a filter or orange makeup on her?

I feel so sorry for this actress. She did the best she could with BS writing. Poor Anna she is an amazing actress, so to get so much discourse about her casting had me raging. She is gorgeous and could have knocked it out of the park, there was weird ass lighting, really horrible writing and in the final scene seeing Anna happy skipping and pulling Brenton along I was waving at the screen going "Oh so they finally decided now was perfect time to have her act more like Starfire. ARGH!"
Though I will admit I've enjoyed parts of Titan as a series, but there were alot of times I was in angry gamer controller breaking mode.
NEED.
They did my boy beast boy so fucking dirty in this show 😔
36:20 WHAT THE FUCK IS LIVE ACTION DC’s OBSESSION WITH GIVING LEX LUTHOR A BEARD?! Supergirl, Titans, Superman and Lois. If the dude has a beard, it doesn’t look like Lex Luthor.
Idk, maybe clean shaven Lex is contractually restricted from these shows 😂
That is a fair point
On,y time I’ve seen it down was Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy
She did really good for wat she was giving
Besides her I'm still wondering why they had cyborg on the Doom patrol and not this show 🤷🏾♂️
I think they realized the fuck up which is why they had Doom Patrol cameo in the last season. Not that it mattered, especially at that point
@@StormKoriHQ thanks I never knew that the Doom patrol had a cameo on that show I guess I'll finish watching the last season eventually 😆
you could make a video of what you would change about Starfire from Titans in story and bring it up it would be awesome to see your point since I agreed with everything in the video.
You might be onto something there...
That’s the teen titans 2003 version only, not comics version.
I’ve been impatiently waiting for this 😭
Lol well now it's yours forever

So thanks for trying to be a positive influence in our fandom circle of super babe lovers. Keep simping fellow.
Titans had so much potential to be one of the best live action DC shows. I thought the casting with the exception of Bruce Wayne was great and the costumes and action scenes were on point.
The writing and a lot of the choices they made were horrible. The first season was okay but the show got so bad that I had to tap out in the middle of season 3.
S3 was a lot of people's tapping out point lol. Like we held onto hope that things would get better but during S3 we knew there was no hope lol
I like some aspects of this show. I don't agree with all your criticisms but I think you were as fair as possible.
Respect 🤝
The fire could’ve at least been green !! 😂
100%
Only CN 2003 original show and animated movie know how to Starfire popular
I’d start with the classic line up Dick, Barbara and Tim, (give Jason his time in between or in flashbacks)
Once Barbara isn’t able to be Batgirl anymore usher in Casandra with Tim still around. Eventually bring in Damien with Steph as batgirl being his counterpart. For the most part sticking to two active side kicks at once.
That wouldn’t help the problem that the show doesn’t feel like a titans show and more like a Bat family show.
You can tell they suffered from having a low budget
They suffered from having terrible writing, editing, and direction. I don’t blame the budget.
I think this actress would be the perfect Storm.
Starfire was designed off plenty of celebrities not just a black women
The writers and producers probably didn’t want to paint her orange, due to all their TDS!🤣
😂
I think they should always have a black woman playing Starfire, but at LEAST have orange/golden highlights all over her skin and fully green contacts.
Why
Why should she always be played by a Black woman?
@@kuggacouragegx6093 That is my point exactly. An actress of any race could be fit for the role.
Tbh they could bring it back using the Lazarus planet storyline (as they created Lazarus rain on the show & in the comics, different effects).
45:53 my best guess is none of it was on their mind
I used to watch and like this show in high school (honestly I really liked Dick Graysons, super boys, Donna Troy, Rose, Jericho, and Beast Boys actors throughout the show) but I gave up after how bad the s2 finale was and when they made red hood scare crows bitch I completely gave up.
Let’s be honest ….eventually star fire was that star of the show ….& yes she could definitely be storm in the MCU
🤦🏿♂️
It’s sad how much hate the actress got. She looked great and did the best she could. Not her fault the writers sucked and her costume originally didn’t look good. Anna deserved better
💯
I never seen her fly that's Starfire main thing not driving cars/an fire is not one of powers horrible 😅
@@geekjanet wow I would have never know that about (H/D )thanks for the insight 😅 when I first seen they episode I was confused👍🏾

Styling really makes a charecter, and innthis project the bugdet was all the way to the cemetery...😓😓😓
I don't know who in their right mind could have phucked up so horribly when it came to hair and style when they had the comics for reference, but they did so MAYORLY.

The best part of titans was the actors 😢
I also wish her fire powers were green, like in this series she looks like she is el diablo's sister or someting lol
Meanwhile in the comics her powers are not green 24 7, due the people make her powers most of the time a flame look but still its a blast that comes from her hands may have a slight green hue but most of the time it's redish-orange .. What’s your fan casting for Starfire in the DCU?
Thank you for making a video about this
I dropped the show hard after season 2
18:52 it make me think of a bad version of the outfit she wore in the injustice 2 game
Anna would be a dope Storm
The problem is if you were to call her a meta human from earth then it would be an honest mistake because she is barley an alien in this show.
She basically talks and acts human. Does not have green eyes or her alien golden skin color and her like the others stories are half baked.
I actually thought she was a good starfire
Horrendous needle drops for sure lol. Probably the only recent DC property I can think of that had worse needle drops was the 1st S**cide Squad movie
Ugh I hate that people cry woke and DEI at everything now and I hate this myth of "Red head erasure" in hollywood
Kori like Ariel is not a "white european ginger" they are non humans with red hair.
No one cried red head erasure when Megan Fox played April O'Neal or Kirsten Dunst played MJ
Finally a starfire vid yessss
You know I got you!
I think that the looks she should have been an athletic hot Brazilian model / Actor. We all know why starfire was was popular.
What's the retro-sounding background music playing during the back end of the season 1 segment?
Anna Diop is hella fine
The show was definitely underwhelming probably too big of a show for a small screen… But as for the actress, I would love to see someone or complexion and statue to play marvels storm. The actress has something regal about her.
By season 4 she was pretty perfect, ill nevwr understand why they had the chance to correct hwr powers and they made them.blue like you were so fucking close lol

Never saw this live action titans. How did they handle my favorite Raven?
Anna was one of the better characters/actors on the show. Titans had bigger problems going on that made the series overall underwhelming.
It’s a different story
Honestly I feel that this version of starfire was done dirty. She acts like a bad knock off of starfire. The writers are to purely blame
Wait.....OG Teen Titans fans resented the 2003 cartoon? Since when?! I thought everybody loved that show!?
I shouldn't have said "a lot of" but yea, there's a good few TT fans who really didn't like the cartoon's vision of the characters. Look closely and you'll see some of them in my comments sections lol. A lot of them are older Gen-X who grew up with the Wolfman & Perez comics
I never liked the Titans cartoon. Personally I always felt Young Justice was closer to the source material than the Teen Titans series.
@@eddierascalhaskell4954 Blasphemy!!
Yes they do
They left out her ability to fly, her race's natural ability until season 3...
Why?
The world may never know
a red head ginger would have resemble Starfire much better ;l
🪑☕️ I’m here
ALWAYS AND FOREVER.
41:31 KENNIE JD BABY!? 😂
She just be saying shit and I love her for it lmao
Lmao fr, on another note i enjoy bits and pieces of the show and it wasn’t complete dogshit… but it did become CW DOGSHIT! 😂
One of the worst character designs ever. They should have handled her like MCU Gamora for the orange skin tone.
They were called titans not teen titans
I'm aware
We know
I don’t think fully this was fair to say . This was their first attempt of her . I didn’t think it was perfect but I didn’t think it was horrible .
@@StormKoriHQ mcu has nothing to do with Dcu as you can see they don’t even release marvel movies like that except for Batman
@@TheShockVox I feel like some of yall get on just to argue . And nobody’s allowed to have an opinion but you which is quite Delusional.
Great actress. Terrible higher ups
Actual trash
She just wasnt starfire by look or character wise.
No u are just racist
Anna Diop is the worst thing about this ALREADY terrible series.
If you didn't know, the OG Starfire's design was actually based on Irys Chacon.
49:51 so they are claiming any race can play the character as they are literally complaining that the actress is black instead of white
