i am looking to buy this next month, i have ALOT of games on my hard drive, like retro games and stuff, so i wanted a HUB to preserve ALL THE GAMES, for the good of emulation, and your video sold me the ONE i need, thank you very much, and on my amazon its 195 euros atm, def a steal for 8TB
I have been hunting around for an appropriate back up drive as some of my others are getting old and this video was a great help. Thanks very much for a fantastic tutorial.
Hi, yes I use the hub’s ports to transfer data between phone and other SSD drives to Mac. I cannot confirm the speed but I can transfer a 1GB file in a few seconds, so it’s pretty legit
@@Filmlove I got one and was able to verify that space might get taken up a little bit more with encryption depending on what's being encrypted. One folder of mine that had a lot of tiny files in it which is normally 173GB ended up being 192GB once it was encrypted. But another folder with lots of large files in it is 108GB unencrypted and only maybe 170mb larger when it's encrypted but about 108GB also.
Good to know, thanks for verifying! I’ve only been using this drive encrypted and with larger video files, so it’s good to see the impact of a high volume of small files
Great video! How did you get your drive to transfer so fast? I have the same one and for some reason it says the the speed of transferring in around 25mb/s! do you happen to know what might be the reason? Is it something I need to use my warranty for? could it be because of my computer for some reason? Thank you!!
Hi, thanks for connecting! The only thing that I can think to cause a slow transfer will be if you are transferring while using the drive for another task (maybe background backup activity, opening a file?). Also my current setup is using the USB-C port on the computer with the USB-A converter
@@Filmlove thank you for your answer:) I was only using it for a normal backup, nothing else in the background.. I will test it also with a usb-c port to see if that resolves the situation 🙏
The Seagate hub comes with USB-B to USB-A cable. Which seems to be fine though because the read/write speeds of 130Mb/s is well within what USB 3.0 supports. And yes with a usb-a adapter it will work with Mac
Hi, I'm from Indonesia. Thanks for the comprehensive review. I enjoyed watching it. I also have the same question though. Are we limited accesing data in the hdd from USB B on the back only? Or can we access the data in the harddisk using the front type C port? Hope for your prompt response.
@@Filmlove Thank you, I keep looking for answers. I would be happy if you write when you return from vacation. It seems to me that the transformer is also suitable for a voltage of 220, but I'm not sure enough about that.
From the Seagate tech specs webpage: “Compatible with most Windows, macOS, and Chrome OS systems. Visit seagate.com/os for details.” So hopefully your Chromebook is compatible too
Thanks for the effort, I have a little question, Does it make a difference using the Sandisk ssd connected to the hub itself than connecting to the Macbook? I mean does it help with the speed of backup?
Good question, this one will require some research (or do my own use-case testing on this unit when I get an opportunity) because I’m not sure if the data still needs to go thru the Mac before it writes to the Seagate hub. If so, it may be better to connect the Sandisk directly to the Mac if you can, since the read speed of the Sandisk will be faster anyway than what the Seagate can write
Great video! I am looking for a solution to archive my finished UA-cam video workflow... which I assume is what you are also using it for (I use the T7 for editing workflow). Did you need to reformat for mac? I have the 2019 macbook pro with the same 4 USB-C ports (why!). How is it going for you now?
Hi, thanks! Thankfully I did not need to reformat to start writing to the drive with MacOS, however I did need to change security settings in Recovery Mode to install the Seagate encryption software (you probably saw towards the end of video). So far both the drive and M2 MacBook Pro are working smoothly in concert! If you’re considering upgrading that 2019 Mac, the M-series will make your workflow so much more enjoyable
A very comprehensive review. Thanks. To save time I`d like an external hard drive connected to my computer to automatically send the same data to a second external hard drive through the first`s usb hub., giving a second back-up as I work throughout the day. Can the One Touch drive do this? (presumably through the Toolkit software?)
Glad that you could watch! Yes the Seagate’s USB-A and USB-C ports do support data, so you can daisy-chain if you’d like another hard drive connected for another backup. As far as automatic backups go, I use MacOS, in which Time Machine is the built-in ultility for automatically backing up to an external drive
@@konsul2006 interesting, it shouldn’t be that slow, as long as the USB port supports the bandwidth. I’m curious if you can swap the unit if it’s a bad drive.
I have discovered that the software installed by Western Digital runs a service called "WDDriveService" and it makes the One Touch Hub run super slow! When I stop or disable that service I get the full speed of the Seagate drive! (This is on Windows 11)
You dont think there are many devices that support USB A? What? Most devices use usb A. And You can get an adapter for those few devices that do not have usb A. Changing to usb c would decrease out of box compatibility and without any added performance.
Thanks for this review, had a blast watching it! I will be buying the 8tb as well
Great to hear! Hope it works out well too!
Good video 👍

Hello. Are you able to confirm if the USB-C port can be used for data transfer? And if so, at what speeds?

Nice review! :) Is the toolkit necessary or can I still use it without installing the toolkit? And, can I use this with different laptops?
Hi, yes the drive will work just fine without Toolkit, as long as you don’t need to encrypt the drive. I haven’t tried it with multiple devices yet
Thanks for your reply!
Aren't you having any overheating issues that these drives are infamous for?
Hi, I haven’t experienced overheating with the Seagate yet, but I only use this for backing up occasionally. For daily use I use SSD
Is this shuckable ? What is the model of the drive inside of this hub?
Hi, I actually haven’t taken this one apart so I’m not sure what’s inside
Which is better, this or wd my book?
I don’t have personal experience with WD, but hopefully someone with those drives can speak to this
@@Filmlove Do I need to plug it into the power and computer at all times, or should I remove everything when not in use?
Thanks for the infos! Watched the video and ordered one!
Glad that this helped, hope it works out!
does this encryption use up a lot more space and affect performance?
Hi, I haven’t found that speed has changed since using encryption and the capacity of the drive is the same

Do you advise on reformatting the drive to APFS from the stock format that it comes with?
ExFAT runs pretty smooth on my Mac, I had no reason to reformat

@@gedelicious hi, good question, the usb-c port on the front is only used for additional accessories, not the HDD
@@Filmlove Why do you answer to this good question of user @gedelicious and don't answer to my same bad question?
Hi, I understand that the hard disk comes with different power adapters.
Is it also suitable for an electrical voltage of 220 volts?
