HOLDEN VS PAJERO - old skool super kool- Roothy
This Bushmechanic challenge features old mate Pat driving a diesel Isuzu - ok it's a Holden Jackeroo - he picked up for less than $2K. I spent about the same for a 1991 Pajero, bloody beautiful, one of the most comfortable four wheel drives I've ever punted over outback distance. I reckon this really showed the inherent strength of the Pajeros, especially the older ones.
It also reminds us all of the days when you could still buy a cheap fourby that would go places. These days it's much more about buying, fixing, and then going -
In this case, to the outback. It was one hell of a trip, but the real hell was what we put the vehicles through.
It does kick off with a couple of new sets of tyres which, quite frankly, if we'd had to pay for them would have cost more than the bloody vehicles themselves. Hey, welcome to the wally world of 4WD Action at it's very best.
As usual it features some of the great blokes in the trade too with Mark 'Lowmount' Lowry, Brad Smith, Mike Ellem on camera, the list goes on -
Here's something you won't see - on the way back to Sydney, a long time after the cameras have been put away, the Pajero literally spat an axle. The lads were driving along, the wheel started moving out and the axle fell out. Hmmm, maybe we did bust it?

My first 4x4 was a 1990 jackaroo, now have a 1988 Pajero both turbo diesel 5 speeds…I miss the barn rear doors of the jacky but she died a noble death, Pajero is a 7seater so can take my half a footy team with me now
I’ve still got this and many more dvds can’t get enough of them in lock down
How old is this?
@@oliverkhoo rounded 2005 or 2006
I had a Pajero when I was in Australia and it was bloody brilliant, it never failed me. Petrol model and thirsty enough but bloody good
Its so nice seeing a first gen montero/pajero in a video. These days its basically nissan, toyota snore fest. Love seeing the old isuzu power as well. Thank you for the fantastic upload
Totally agree - all the newbies look the same, almost all anyway. And all made in Thailand or South America by same people in same factories - sheesh....
My parents had a slightly older Pajero with the leaf sprung rear end when I was learning to drive, it was a turbo diesel though. The things I put that wagon through as I taught myself how to drive offroad would have killed most other vehicles, they really did make them well back then.
This is fantastic for the US viewer who missed out on these glorious videos the first go around. Thank you, good sir Roothy!
On ya cobber - thanks for that.
This is probably my all time favourite Roothy video. Used to have it on DVD and watched it more than a few times.
Still the best episode of any 4x4 show I have watched
Gotta love the old Gen 1 Pajero's!!!!
I have this DVD back in 2007, bought it from eBay. What a memory
I would love it if John roothy ended up buying himself an MG Pajero and doing it up
that jackaroo was a great suv. shame isuzu discontinued it
32:00 the sound of breaking irreplaceable Jackaroo headlights. just cant find them in 2021
Mate this is mint !! Having a beer after work watching this awesome entertainment. Much appreciated Cobba 🤙
I remember I bought this one years ago and the 2nd half of the DVD didn't work so I never knew who won till now years later haha, gee $2000 for a 15 year old 4wd, couldn't do that these days
This was one of my all time fav vids roothy, luv it👌🏻
roothy once a week you should do a cook up in the back yard and upload it... people would love it i know i would .
Yep, been thinking about that - thanks!
I love the fact that John replies to his faithful fans. He doesn't love himself, just the bush.
A truly humble and down to earth human.
Lots of great memories reading your magazines with grandad when I was a kid.
Top video guys
Good to see the old stuff
Very entertaining 👍👍👍
Thanks rooth bloody good watch mate I'm still running a 98 rodeo over 400 000 on the clock been everywhere in it
Brilliant - keep it forever!
I have an 02 2door rodeo closing on 300ks. Been super reliable
So much better than whats coming out of the former 4wd Action these days. Loved this video Roothy & go the mighty Pajero.
I own 2 1st gen Pajero's and its fun to drive. 1 diesel and 1 thirsty v6
Too right mate!
Thanks for the upload!
I loved those Baja Claws.... ran them in my 78 Bronco back in the days.
Made all the difference to these things!
Love everything you upload mate, have never seen it before, its tops!!
Thanks - keep watching, we've got a sack load to go!
great video and love the information given
I thought the Supercheap logo looked a bit old, then I saw the rego sticker... 2007
Bloody good yarn that one.
Man it was such a good show
Roothy, I have an 02 Pajero Exceed. I love it. 3.5lt petrol but it can handle everything so far.
Love it roothy! Want to see you out making new videos
Covid sure stuffing up travel!
Should have watched this before going through Whitecliffs, ended up sleeping in a Donga would have preferred dugout!
Those two old bombs (the vehicles) are probably running around with P plates on them.
The wheels fell off the Paj on the way home - great days when you could buy old trucks like that cheap!
this was my first ever 4wd dvd and ive made the pumkin/potato bake complete wth the samboy chips a few times haha
Roothy, please put up the third Bush Mechanic Challenge, if possible, as I never got to see that one. These were great! Thank you!
When we find it for sure!
What was the third bush mechanic challenge? I don't remember it.
bloody beautiful stuff...
I only have one ARB Product the EZ-I tyre Deflator for 4 years new to the market 😆
Got a runva and bullbar and bash plates for far less than just a arb bull
Yep, some companies keep charging top dollar even when it's all made OS in the same factories anyway.
I complained about this back in the day - destroying 4wds for no other reason than just for the sake of it..
Plenty of young kids get a start in cheap 4WDs and unfortunately this is an example of taking opportunities from 17 year olds on apprenticeship wages to get into 4 wheel driving. These days a young kid can't get into a 4wd for under $10k.
Long gone are the days of buying cheap vehicles and spending the endless cycle of drive, break, fix, and repeat. Getting out there enjoying the weekends while learning the art of minor repairs at home so you can get to work on Monday.
The trend all over the place went to destroying 4wds for fun instead of preserving them.
And now i realise that Pat was involved with 4wd Action.
Check out those sunnies, i guess fashion does repeat every 20 years!
Bunnings safety glasses - gee..... that's me anyway!
Roothy found lube, all set for the trip now... lol
haha - off you go then!
That jackaroo won
The tyres on each of the vehicles are worth more than the vehicles themselves.
Too true!!!
Not anymore…
Cool dudes
For sale! 2 low milage 4WDs, only used for school trips and shopping,
superficial shopping trolly damage, band new speedos fitted, offroad
tyres. See Dodgy Brothers Better Used 4WDs. Cheap at $20K each.
Did you keep the lube?
Not many cars look better going fast on dry dirt than a Gen 1 Pajero. Shame ya trashed it though
Hi Roothy, soon there will be more Mahindra challenges
You might be right there mate - thinking of buying one and playing tough with it. They feel like they'll handle the rough stuff OK.
These 2 looks a lot like 76 series
I don't get it if this is 4x4 action, then how did Graham and that come in to play ?
They took my job eventually - can;'t blame them, it was a great job!
Cheap or not, I couldn’t bring myself to just destroy some very capable rigs for entertainment. I love all the other videos, though.
Yep, I'd agree today but back then the car yards were full of vehicles like this. Wonmder where they all went?
@@JOHNROOTHROOTHY I have got one - a 1986 Jackaroo - tough getting parts though, but it is registered and drives well.
Dose anyone know what PAJERO means in Spanish ?
Those poor cars!
4:43 lotta movement in that jaw I reckon
Funny
Like ads, you'll love this.
Pat
That’s not a truck
Personally, you would likely go:
toyota
Nissan
MItsubishi
FORD
HOLDEN
everyone else
IN terms of repair from a local garage and secondhand/new parts
Toyota
Nissan Patrol
Mitsubishi
Ford
Holden
other brands.
I would love to see a comparison starting from the toyota 40/60/70/80/100/200/300 series toyota repair
vs nissan
vs mitsubishi
vs ford
vs holden
vs the rest
Petrol/diesel
Not sure I agree any more - I would have a few years ago. Probelm is with most of the new stuff being built highly computerised it's only dealerships that can make computer repairs. My list probably starts with cars I'd never take bush - VW - and works up. Forget 200 and 300 Tojo repairs in small towns - doesn;'t happen unless it's tyres. Or a unique mechanic!
To the POINT, 2 things come to mind.
Jn.6:27, and 2Tim.2:4 (KJV)
This is all I can say. I can say no more.
Mk.4:9 (KJV)
Brilliant, get old cheap 4x4's and trash them, cool.
that competition doesnt make sense to me. this is just to advertise that freakin mickey thompson and the Super cheap.. its not good to the vehicle. the way i see it when you guys driving it is just to destroy the vehicle.. Those truck are good you should use it as a normal 4 wheeling. I will not buy that mickey thompson anymore your just showing how tough your tyres but how about those trucks.
I could do with less of that techno music but great video 👍🏻
Pajero definitely better
whats with the 80's porn music
Hi
