    Yes they do. Everyday they make me laugh for one reason or another. Either a chicken doing something or one of the goats. They are a commitment but one well worth it.

      Gardening With Puppies I miss mine too so much. I've had that problem with the goat in the coop eating the feed then you have to treat the scours for the next couple of days. I've subscribed can't wait to see the kids. What breed are your goats?

      Thanks for the sub. They are Nigerian Dwarfs. The little chicken food stealer is small even for a Nigerian Dwarf. Well shorter anyway LOL

    Animals bring sanity to my world. I would not thrive without them. Great channel. Really like the girl who steals from the chickens. Obviously she does not care that she's fatty fatty two by four, she'll show you how to get in the chicken house door :)

    I just love that you take care of your little chicken that gets picked on:) Thank you for the sub! I subed on yours as well and I am looking forward to watching! How many eggs a day you get? I am wanting to get some chickens to get some eggs soon so any info is great!!

  • @BackyardHomesteading

    In the last few weeks my little picked on chicken has started taking up for herself and is doing well. I have 10 chickens, 8 of which are hens. 3 of my hens are over 5 years old and do not lay as much as the younger girls. My Polish bantam gives us a "novelty egg" every couple of weeks or so. Basically out of 5 active laying hens I get usually 4 eggs a day during the sunny months. I like the Rhode Island reds and Buff Orppingtons best. The barred rocks and silkies lay okay but not as sweet

    What kind of goats do you have? They are beautiful. I'm considering getting a couple of milk goats.

    @JuliaP777 I did not de-bud my goats because God gave them horns to protect themselves and I will not take that away. They are two years old and have never had their horns stuck on anything. Now I will say I am with my goats every day and we have chainlink so it could be they just don't have the opportunity to do it. They do not gore each other. They butt each other with their heads down but they have never used their horns. They are sweet goats ;) Hope this helps.

    @wschraml18 People laugh because she is like a dog when I am outside. She follows me every step. I have to be careful not to step on her LOL. The dog on the other hand demands attention every moment of every day :)

      fortbumper They were free recycled buckets from the HEB bakery. I used them for several years and then took them to recycle. We now use metal trash cans.

    Nice video. I have been looking at videos of homesteads and stuff for a few weeks because I was thinking of getting chickens but I have been debating on some goats too. I liked your goats, they seem very friendly. Do your goats have to be pregnant to produce milk?

    • @BackyardHomesteading
      @BackyardHomesteading  10 років тому +1

      Goats are a great addition to the homestead if you have good fences LOL. I don't milk while the girls are pregnant but once the their kids are weaned then I start milking. I then milk until their production is so low it is time to breed them again. We give the girls a "rest" while pregnant. Not all homestead do this though.

      +BackyardHomesteading I breastfed while pregnant. It's not that great.

    • @BackyardHomesteading
      @BackyardHomesteading  8 років тому +1

      They don't have to be continuously pregnant but they do have to be pregnant to start the production of milk. Depending on the goat some can milk up to 8 months or longer after the birth of the kids.

    I see you didn't de-bud your goats horns. Do you have any problems with them having horns? I was thinking about getting goats and have been doing a lot of research and watching videos on youtube about goats and so many have de-buded their goats horns and say it like a must. So do the horns bother you or your goats in any way, do they get them stuck in places like fences, ram and stab each other, gore each other, etc. like others say?

    I love your goats I will be getting some Nigerian dwarf/Nubian mix goats Mostly Nigerian but daddy has some Nubian him. but I will be getting them here in the next 7 weeks they were born on 4th July weekend so there about almost 2 weeks old can't wait to bring them home. I am picking them up from a friend who's doe had twin girls. There mother milks about 1/2 gallon once the babies are off the mother she gets 1 gallon of milk each day with her 2 doe's that she has. SO I am hoping to get that but pretty sure not the first year but could possibly because the Nubian in them I wish I could get pics of them on here but can't. there Names are Lucy and Clover. (LUCY: has a heart shaped shape on her head and looks exactly like her mother) Clover: has a what looks to look like a 4 leaf clover on her head. they have the Nubian ears they drop a little instead of the ear plain ears.
