I.... don't really like my mordax. It might just be mine, but I find the detent VERY soft. I can flip it, but only by basically striking the tab with my finger already moving quickly. Everyone raves about the malibu but it's an experience that has made me significantly more cautious.
I have the FF Mordax and 2 Malibu’s. I prefer the Malibu. The Mordax blade beveling is pretty pathetic (not even) and feels heavy compared to the Malibu.
Thanks for the video. I have both the black aluminum version and the blue titanium version exactly like the one in this video. I got mine a few months ago and it was actually $475 from Knifecenter. The aluminum has great action, but the titanium is ever better; probably the best of any knife I have ever owned. My only criticism of the TI version is that the handles are actually thicker than the aluminum. I think that is why the TI version is heavier. It still feels great in the handle but I do wish the thickness of the TI version was the same as the AL version.
This was a niche to fill the manual market especially Cali. Thats why these are so hot!! Being Protech is my go to carry edc I would love too see this in an auto!))
Very nice knife especially these titanium ones but I do wish they would put a better looking pocket clip at least on these more expensive titanium ones I just think any knife over $300 should have a nice milled titanium clip to match the nice titanium handles .
I had to go threw ebay to finally get mine . Protect needs to re up on all knife sights with all of their knives. they also have some cpm D2 but hard to get
I was up late last night because I went to a modest mouse concert and woke up with a nasty hangover , but thank God that this was my morning/afternoon content 😆 I've been waiting for this review... I'm probably going to pick one of these up soon , when I can find one 😐 I really dig the button insert , whatever it is... And that clip is generic af for the price.... But maybe there will be after market clips... Still want the godfather operator as well... really dig the all flat black with the tridium insert on the button... Not really a fan of the blue titanium , wish they had just a regular version...flat Gray smooth scale version 😐
I completely agree with you on the subject of titanium on auto's. It just feels better! Thought I don't think it justified doubling the price, I'd have no issues with $100 price increase but $240 is a bit much. I think $325 would be fair?!?! To me anyways.
Machining Al = easy, machining Ti = a bitch. That's probably Protec's main reason for doing mostly Al scales. They could do more milling on the Al scales, that would be awesome.
I've got an aluminum reverse tanto and one of the blade show "distressed titanium" with acid wash blade specials with a wharnie, great knives, up there with my benchmade anthem for fidget toys
In talking to protech, they are trying hard to up production, I am sure if they could make enough for all those complaining, they would. The titanium is WAY better than aluminum imo as far as feel. Worth the $200 extra hands down.
I just got a Malibu and DO NOT get the hype with this guy. Definitely prefer my 940 and will be selling (or returning) it. Why does everyone love this knife? I really don't get it. Maybe my expectations were to high because of all of the great reviews.
Knives like this I treat like a Lamborghini Diablo and say “ooh pretty” then move on without ever even trying to find one. It makes life simpler and on models which will eventually be easy to get just wait 2-3 years until the internet has moved on. The other beautiful part of that philosphy is there are a lot of amazing knives its easy to pick up now that I am not fighting everyone else for.
Dead ripoff (blade) of the Benchmade 940, which isn't a great cutter, but in S90v (at least my CF version). Reground the 940, which vastly improved the slicing performance. If you're attracted to the ProTech Malibu, build a custom of the 940 at the Benchmade custom shop and pocket significant change.
So... no other knife can have a reverse tanto? It amazes me how some people define "ripoff". The 940 is hardly the first knife with a reverse tanto. Minimum effort dude. It'll save you next time 👍
@@metal_complex So, 'Dude' surf's up! It's a free country ('specially with a patreon page following), and seems like I struck a nerve. If you like the knife, your $500 ($600, $700, $800 Etc.) spends just like mine. Knock yourself out. Just expressing an opinion, here, boss.

Hey MC, I’ve been watching for the Protech Rockeye update to come available - any information on when that’ll be released? Or did I miss it? Thanks!!!
I have the regular reverse tanto malibu and it'll never leave my collection! Definitely a top 3 knife for me!
I just scored a black wharncliff and I’m really excited to get it! This titanium one is sick! Thanks for your content!
I love my Malibu…but man those titanium scales are next level. Thanks MC!
I hope these become more available in the future, but for now I will enjoy my protech/Ferrum forge mordax.

@@lintbrush33 How do you find the detent on the mordax? Is the malibu significantly different?
Drooling over stuff that I can't get. Story of My Life.

Agreed, ~4 oz is a great weight for edc IMO
I love my Malibu, had to go the ebay route to get it
You and me both.
There was a time 2 years ago when the Mordax was my favorite Protech. The Malibu is my current favorite.
It'd be cool just to pick up a regular Malibu...c'mon Protech!
Hopefully Protech will produce more of these!
Can't stop playing with my original Malibu while watching 🤣
Thanks MC

Totally Jelly. I REALLY want a Malibu, but money is tight this month.

I have … and love … the Ti Malibu … I want the New Runt next!
Love my Blue aluminum Malibu, but damn it looks good in titanium.... Honestly a titanium Mordax sounds awesome though

Guessing Mother of Pearl inlay? Although I've seen some buttons that definitely look more like abalone than MOP.
I blame you MC, I'm watching the video and the next thing I know I'm 10 pages deep in BHQ new arrivals 🤣🤣🤣
Oh my god it’s beautiful
Very nice looking knife!

Very cool! Unfortunately, I would only pay about 250 bucks for it, the titanium isn't attractive for me, and I'm not too hot on the design.
7:36 got that Borat vibe
Just bought a mordax as a placeholder until I can get a Malibu I just needed something with a button lock lol
what's up with use made blade can't respond to email questions ?
No Malibu’s in stock any where…..at least that I can find….. a few used ones pop up , but not many
Ways wished these and the mordax's came standard with titanium

Classy af
Heck yeah
Thanks. Love mine. Third!
I would really like to see a drop point 🇺🇲
44 minutes late on this one! That's a pretty sheepsfoot blade!

Sold out everywhere 🙄
Dang that’s purty
I wish the clip matched the blade. I also wish I was a millionaire…soooo
not a single one available...lol

Spit it out man🤣

The blades nothing like a 940🤷♂️
Those only thing those two blades have in common is they both have a cutting edge 🤷♂️
So... no other knife can have a reverse tanto? It amazes me how some people define "ripoff".
The 940 is hardly the first knife with a reverse tanto. Minimum effort dude. It'll save you next time 👍
Also the 940 hadn’t hit the custom shop. But reverse tanto isn’t only a benchmade thing. People will use what they like.
