The BBA's use our culture to enrich themselves and do a poor job portraying our historical icons.
David Oyelo and Cynthia Arivo are perfect examples.
      Black neo-liberal boule love it!

I remember I came home from boot camp from the Marines. I was 17 and I saw dead prez for the first time... It was amazing. Being boricua you don't fit in with the normal marine narrative and roots in NY. It was the shit. Even after my last deployment 12 years ago... The pain of trying to fit back into society, the anger issues, the frustration, being misunderstood... He killed that shit. Spot on. Robert Townsends movie “Hollywood Shuffle”…Robert warned us about this back in 1987.
Being born and raised in South Central Los Angeles..you could say I got a knack for the vernacular. I’m not the best at speaking it but I can “hear” it.
Make a long story short..When Snowfall first aired..first two episodes I was like damn this a good show..until I heard the lead actor say something..then I rewound it..and I was like mm mmm no way. Did my research and low and behold dude is British lol.
That was the last episode I watched. Sorry but I’m not falling for it.

I'm from South Central also, and I knew something was off with the lead character in Snowfall, I haven't watched it either.
Same with All-American you can see the difference in the authenticity, of the characters who are FBA and the ones who aren't.
Spencer just didn't nail it all the way, good show but I knew something was up.

You look at such great actors as William Marshall who not only played in the Blackula series of movies but also insisted on the part being played off as an African Prince who was from a highly cultured people, protesting the slave trade. This man is so overlooked by black mainstream media but is in my opinion one of the finest Shakespearian actors that ever graced the stage. Dinah Carroll who as a black woman played a leading role in the late sixties show Julia. As a nurse and single mother who surpassed the usual Sanford And Son stereotypes of how black women were portrayed. Clarence Williams the third. Linc from the series The Mod Squad. Another fine actor who played the role of an undercover policeman with class and distinction.

A wonderful interview, I love it. Very informative about how a black actor navigates white Hollywood and there is no black Hollywood, just a lot of black folks looking for work from white Hollywood. Larenz handled the black British actors invasion question politely. He did give us a peep into how Hollywood executives are marginalizing the value of ADOS actors with a lie of ADOS actors not appealing to international audiences, which Larenz gave examples of the opposite happening for him. Black American/ADOS actors, singers, hip hop artists, musicians and rappers appeal world wide to fans all day, everyday.
