The Coloseum's drawback was that it only had one screen (Everyone viewed the same movie), and by the 1980s, movie styles had changed to provide more variety in more upscale, intimate theaters. The Colosseum was destroyed and gone forever, and a new office building that has been turned into a ten-story residential building was constructed in its place. It is the perfect house for a New Age metropolitan city dweller who might be aware that the Art Deco Colosseum, a magnificent masterpiece, once stood on this land. When an apartment building is being marketed using a legacy that vanished decades ago and all that is left is the name of the old Colosseum, it can only be choice property marketing. It's interesting to observe that the IEC's headquarters during the 1994 elections were located in the new structure. This location has seen a lot of events over the years.
The Colosseum Theatre was one of the places to be in the eighties - for live music shows. At the Colosseum, we enjoyed live music by artists such as - America, Brook Benton, Millie Jackson, Isaac Hayes, Chick Corea, Janis Ian - singing one of her popular songs - "At Seventeen". Fond memories indeed!. It is sad the theatre was not preserved!
