Hello, Ken. It's me, your old ghost town hunter and enthusiast. You have done another great old ghost town adventure presentation. I mentioned earlier that I had just taken my brother to this very ghost town (as well as several others in the area) and found that you have covered this ghost town well. Great video and description. I ended up taking about 200 various photos of the dredge, town, and surrounding areas. I found that you have presented this ghost town in a wonderful display of history and video. AS YOU ALWAYS DO. Again, thank you and congratulations on such a great series on these wonderful historical places.

I lived in Baker and have been to Sumpter and help my uncle build a house there in the late 60s.And then moved to Elgin which is right out of La Grande on the Grand Rhonde River.Good fishing and hunting all over Eastern Oregon.I believe "Paint Your Wagon "was filmed in that area.Lee Marvin ,Clint Eastwood stared in that movie .My uncles did all of the masonry on that set.The tunnels and collapsing fireplace were built by them.

My mom went to visit family in England which gave me and my dad the time to visit historical sites in eastern Oregon. It was 1973 and we came to Sumpter. I don't believe the train was restored yet but the dredge was good. Thanks for the video, it reminded me of my visit!

Great video! A person can't really understand the size of this dredge until you walk up to it, it's massive!
Sumpter is a fun visit, they have a flea market and community wide garage sales a few times a year,
I think on Memorial Day weekend, the 4th of July, and Labor Day weekend.

I'm amazed at how you find these towns! I wish I had known about Sumpter when I used to drive to and from Utah to visit my sister who lived in Washington. Thank you for "bringing me along", as I no longer live in the beautiful west. Keep up the great work!

I know Sumpter and it's history since I live next to it. It has decreased in size like many once booming cities in Oregon but it has never died. I have always understood that it's not classical a ghost town unless the town has no inhabitants left. Totally dead. Just like the small town of Scott's Mills Oregon. It also was once a booming city in it's time. It was once larger than Portland OR at one time.

Oh goodness. It's all shiny now. I used to play there when I was a kid and it was rustic and natural. You really lose the authenticity and the connection with the past when they remodel it...

The town with the only dispensary in the county is NOT a ghost town.
