I bought an RC airplane once and flew it a few times until one day I was flying it and it suddenly stopped accepting all inputs from controller and just flew straight and level into the horizon over the Ocala National Forest in Florida never to be seen again. On that day I decided that I didnt want to be part of a hobby when the very focus of that hobby can literally just fly away at any given moment and there is nothing that can be done about it. I loved the short time I was involved but after that I just cant justify the expense. Then there is the snobby elitists who seem to run all the RC airfields that make it even more unappealing.
@robertlane6431 the more modern 2.4ghz transmitters are much more reliable now. I have a range of around 1.2 miles which is far further than line of sight. There's some good gps trainer aircraft out there and if it starts flying away the aircraft will turn back itself. Hopefully one day you might try again. I find it very therapeutic for stress relief and fly as much as the weather here allows. I know what you mean by the clubs. I used to fly in a few and the snottiness and upper class rules just ruined the point of being there. Flying alone I can just potter around and relax. Thanks for viewing Regards Scott
