I totally agree on the session length at conferences. The best ones I've been to, all of the sessions are between 2 and 4 hours in the past 28 years. Also agree on the networking. Most of my best networking has been in the lounge post session.
English is pretty hit or miss, but most restaurants have English menus, and for general tourist stuff, you can get by pretty easily. You have to resort to gesturing now and then though.
