My dad’s dad, my grandpa had a small blacksmith shop behind his rent house. I used to crank his blower. Mainly, I was jn the way. He was a man of few words. I went by there years ago. I am not young. The old frame house is gone. The shop is gone. In fact, you would never imagine anything being there before. I remember. I miss him terribly.
i’m sorry for your loss, something similar happened to me where my grandpa had a woodworking shop in the backyard, i would sometimes see what he was up too in there and i have vague memories of playing with his drill press handles. he passed a few years ago and all of the tools were sold. Me and my brother started to turn it into a shop again and there’s a good feeling we get from being in there, unfortunately we will have to move out this summer but his legacy will definitely carry on
such a shame..I was taught by an old gentleman who was a blacksmith on the yorkshire coal fields. He taught me because I asked him how to make the different types of fire to work the steel..(I was about 6) I went back a couple of years after I was forced to move away and his shop was gone, the walls and roof were there but everything else was gone including his beautiful polished clay floor. I'd love to be able to find some of his tools...jeepers that guy knew how to make tools.
My grandpa died two months ago. He was a metalworker at the glider factory in my home town, a master metalworker. He left a lot of his tools in the garage, the drills, angle grinders, welders, files, all that. He taught me to weld and to solder before he left this world, and he promised me that he'd teach me to use the large stationary drill. This, sadly, is a promise that went unfulfilled. I'd love to learn some of this stuff, just as the way of honoring him. On some days the prospect of getting to learn that is the only thing that keeps me going. I miss him, and terribly.
To anyone who is new to this channel, you should see him use chisels in previous videos. He is a master and the shavings are paper thin or thinner. For me it is something truly beautiful to witness. Glad to see you Mr. Chickadee!
I’ve been watching a channel for years I watch with admiration with your skill you draw us all in. I’m modest wood crafter and I felt compelled to purchase one of your chisels just placed the order. It would be an honor to have something that you actually crafted. Something I hope to hand down to my grandchildren someday.
Hi Mr. Chickadee. You were my inspiration to start getting into hand tool woodworking (and associated interests like blacksmithing, scythe use etc.) back in 2019 when I was on the cusp of graduating college and figuring out adult life. This craft has been my source of peace in the most chaotic times since then, and has filled my house with furniture and my garage with tools. Thank you for doing this and always being dynamic with the videos you create :^)
When I was a kid, in the early 80's, my dad got into blacksmithing. I got to spend my summer wandering the railroad tracks looking for abandoned cars (or other sources of quality steel) that had salvageable leaf springs since they are made of spring steel. We would make them into knives with a bellows made from a vacuum and a forge fashioned from a tire rim. A piece of rail was our anvil. Though your setup is nicer, you have the same spirit of creativity. Your videos remind me of those times, thank you.
In this XXI century full of (worldwide) shoddy companies and individuals who just seek for fast money (except, of course, in Japan and South Korea) and full of no respect for hand-work as an active meditation, it's always mind-blowing to watch you, Mr. Chickadee, working as honest and smashing craftsmen worked in centuries XVIII and XIX, where handmade tools were (and still they are) the best ones ever constructed. Thanks so much, gentleman, for your enormous generosity while sharing your unbeatable skills! Each video of you is a gilded homage to self-demanding work.
Ну наконец то долгожданное видео ,как я рад 😊Я посмотрю с удовольствием ваше видео,вы очень хороший мастер ,я беру с вас пример и учусь , спасибо вам большое.У вас не подрожаемый стиль !
Would love an update video to see how the Korean floor has held up and how it’s aged and some other past projects. Amazing chisels though! They look a delight to use.
Hurrah!!🌟 Mr. Chickadee decided to fly home (UA-cam) and pay us a visit. Its been many moons, Sir!! I'm a 🤔 when it comes to handmade tools. The Expertise.Time. Patience. Dedication put forth to create and XLNT piece of work is not everybody's cup of tea. The end result is to be admired and you should be Proud.🏆 Truth be told ~ We are in the presence of a Master. With that said ~ 👍👍👍👍👍💚🙏 ...
Wow! They are amazing!! Some day I will buy some. BTW...I receive my Scythe tomorrow. My weedeater went out and I decided to try and switch to a Scythe for weedeating. Your channel has always been so wonderful and inspiring!
You will like a scythe once you get used to it. I still use a weedeater for some hard to reach places, and on a friends lot that is rocky. I was lucky enough to have several corded weedeaters and one battery powered unit given to me, so will probably have enough to last the rest of my life.
One of my absolute favorite Makers on the Tube. Chisels are beautiful to look at. I am sure they perform as good as they look. Always a pleasure to watch you work.
The most specifically made to purpose tongs I've come across. Very nice :-D My grandpa was a blacksmith in The Netherlands so videos like this remind me of the family heritage. Thanks for sharing great work - again.
Glad to see your content again! Blacksmith tip, you can stop a lot of vibration by putting a big magnet on the side of your anvil. Hope I could help you like your videos have helped me
This is so strange because this past week, I was telling my son who is getting into woodworking about your channel. Those are beautiful. Thank you, Mr. Chickadee.
beautiful work and a joy to watch the process. love the handles for your touch marks , thats brilliant Your use of old hand tools makes me think of my shop too thankyou for sharing and taking me down memory lane to my early learning days
Thanks for sharing with us Josh, those are mighty fine looking chisels and Slicks that you forged. Stay safe and keep up the great works that you do. I hope they are big sellers for you. Fred.
wonderful As stated in the overview section, the manufacturing method is based on the Japanese method of making chisels, but the shape is similar to American chisels, which was interesting.
I've been using the same set of Stanley chisels for over 40 years. Good stuff lasts so you never really waste any money on it. I have no idea if the ones they make today are any good. If I was to build a log cabin or a post and beam, these you've made would be my first purchase.
Also someone like him will always have demand above supply. Making them expensive makes it worth his time and means he doesn't have to try to satisfy crazy demand
On the one hand, this gentleman is a skilled tradesjack, whereas the Japanese are master craftsmen, but on the other, these are art pieces as well as tools.

That is something else! Outstanding piece of art those crafted chisels! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Hats off!
5:03 Simultaneously forging and rinsing your brush. Very impressive.

Mr Chickadee, you truly inspire me. I'm 53 and I am going to learn the blacksmithing from scratch.
you are a true Master

I like how the metal texture looks like wood.

Beautiful work, that wrought iron looks so interesting etched.
One of my absolute favorite Makers on the Tube. Chisels are beautiful to look at. I am sure they perform as good as they look. Always a pleasure to watch you work.
Glad Your Back ! Amazing Chiisels!
I've never seen someone make a tool that looks like wood but is in fact metal. they're like a work of art
Those are something beautiful. I wish I could afford a chisel that expensive. Maybe one day.
That's a real labour of love, and a highly individual tool !
You are going to be so busy making chisels. Spectacular tools with a very unique finish.
Wouldn’t be surprised if these sell out quickly. Nice work.
Absolute works of art. An item to be cherished and used.
Been missing me some Chickadee time for a while now…..glad to see you again…each time is an experience
The most specifically made to purpose tongs I've come across. Very nice :-D My grandpa was a blacksmith in The Netherlands so videos like this remind me of the family heritage. Thanks for sharing great work - again.
Thanks for sharing!
I have been watching you since you bucked out the poplar. This, though, is a whole other level of craftmanship. Wow, but wow.
thanks!
A thing of beauty. Not in the market for chisels but they would be worth every penny
Glad to see your content again!
Blacksmith tip, you can stop a lot of vibration by putting a big magnet on the side of your anvil. Hope I could help you like your videos have helped me
Whatever you post is absolutely amazing. Thank you for the lesson on how to build a chisel!
Glad you liked it!
Glad to see you after a while.
They look amazing
Beautiful craftsmanship as always
This is so strange because this past week, I was telling my son who is getting into woodworking about your channel. Those are beautiful. Thank you, Mr. Chickadee.
Every time I see your videos they make my day
Hey Mr. Chickadee,
Now you are a fine blacksmith, as well as a fine carpenter ! 🙂
Wish I could buy a whole set!! Absolutely beautiful, Sir!!!
Good to see you again, Mr. Chickadee! Semper Fi, brother.

Man, what a Craftsman!
Stunning. Not surprising they are out of stock with a wait list a mile long.
What a lovely work. Congratulation for the highest level of craftsmanship!
Nice hand forging Mr. 🙏 🌸🌺
Thanks for sharing with us Josh, those are mighty fine looking chisels and Slicks that you forged. Stay safe and keep up the great works that you do. I hope they are big sellers for you. Fred.
Thanks, will do!
As someone who grew up in the last century watching the craftsmen on PBS, I think you are the 21st century's Roy Underhill.
عوده حميده وارجو الا تتأخر علينا بأعمالك التي أسعد برؤيتها ولك تحياتي وتقديري لكل ما تقدمه لنا
Absolutely amazing craftsmanship, awesome channel.
Thank you! Cheers!

Really makes me want to attempt forge welding again
Beautiful work
Go for it!
Beautiful work as always. I have certainly missed your videos. I would love one of your chisels, but maybe someday.
Beautiful work Sir! Thank you for sharing it.
Always nice to see one of your videos.
Semper Fi, Marine.
wonderful
As stated in the overview section, the manufacturing method is based on the Japanese method of making chisels, but the shape is similar to American chisels, which was interesting.
Good to see you back at it
Beautiful, work of art but functional tools. Thank you for the video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Your "Mr. C" mark on these is terrific!!! 😎✌️
Your work is art!
I miss your video's.. Keep em coming
Awesome craft and as some have pointed out the price is actually a steal. The amount of work going into these is staggering.
thanks for noticing, there are many small steps and pieces in the process, most can go wrong too along the way.
MR CHICKADEEEEE !!! 🤓 Beautiful work as always

Beautiful work.
wow! those look amazing!!!
9:15 this is a beautiful shot, how the iron goes from cherry red to yellow.
it is pretty!
wow, just wow
Those chisels are some nice.
Beautifully crafted hand tools that will last a lifetime and be handed down.
To anyone who thinks these are expensive I'd like to point out that good Japanese chisels cost thousands of dollars.
Also someone like him will always have demand above supply. Making them expensive makes it worth his time and means he doesn't have to try to satisfy crazy demand
Actually a great set goes for about ¥90,000 ($600 US). His work is always impressive to watch.
That's still expensive to me
On the one hand, this gentleman is a skilled tradesjack, whereas the Japanese are master craftsmen, but on the other, these are art pieces as well as tools.
Exactly. You want cheap? Go to Harbor Freight. You want excellence, you're going to pay for it.
Gorgeous work, man.
Amazing, man... Really stunning chisels! Fantastic work! 😃
