Despite the LNP stacking the ABC board with right wingers it still does an amazing job. As an Australian I am mostly proud of their work. Love that you guys love the ABC for telling it how it is. The "Liberal party" (right wing party) in Australia has been trying to defund them for years. It's so important to have a reliable news source.
They attack the ABC because Murdoch wants it gone; pure and simple. Murdoch has been waging a war against the ABC for almost my entire life. Why do you ask? It’s pretty simple. The ABC is tax payer funded competition for his media outlets and that competition reduces his profits but more importantly it diminishes his influence with its neutral and generally counter narrative to his political ideology and that of his lapdogs in the LNP.
@kathyconway5327 once you have finished being rude, you might notice that the actaul notes played are similar to the narrator's voice, there is no real pattern so we can't ignore it, and the volume is variable. As background music, it fails. It has been chosen to be emotive.
I have been quite surprised at the standard of journalism in America as l have been following the machinations of the campaigns of both parties. Thank god the standard of journalism in Australia is s lot better, of course there are heavily commercial channels that generally don't place much importance in the integrity of their reporters. I reckon though the worst of Australian journalism is better than most American journalism. With all the soft cock interviews I have seen when l try and think of a really interesting interview not the normal sycophantic crap you get used to seeing. The one that stands out is Johnathon Swan's wonderful interview where he was able to hold trump to some kind of account about his spectacular failure with Covid. Anyway my opinion is just that definitely not imperical , whatever l am grateful to live somewhere that a more rigorous and you can only hope more honest standard of journalism is demanded.
Can you imagine Trump on the 7.30 Report 😂🤣😂 I would pay serious money to see Trump in front of Sarah Ferguson, or in their day Leigh Sales, or Kerry O'Brien 😁

Definitely needed this. Our mainstream media isn't even talking about this in an unbiased way. Just tell what happened, all the spin is creating unnecessary division. Both the Brits and Aussies have been filling in the gap. Very appreciated.
America’s election process is deplorable. Allowing the GOP to actively interfere with vote counting and signing off tabulations is outrageous. Maybe the system should be changed, with an independent National body formed to run Presidential elections remotely. Stop these bullies from phoning election workers on voting nights, for a start.
Actually, they can, and they just might. 95% of the betting market leans towards Trump, sometimes by up to 60:40, though the three most reliable polls say 50:50. He could win legitimately which says something about the American voters. Of course, that could also be the case in Australia if we had a salesman as unethical and self-centered as Trump as a leader of one of our major political parties here.
@@williamverhoef4349 The betting market is one of the worst ways to predict this election. It's not limited to actual voters and has significant foreign influence.
@@williamverhoef4349the betting market leans trump heavily because the markets have individuals who tend to come from demographics that heavily bet for trump and odds are determined by people’s betting not actual likelihood of success so the betting market always wins. The fact the ABC can leave the comments section on for America's political machinations and not our own is a sad situation for the peoples voice. For the record, these types of programs are where the ABC excels, and a credit to their staff. Pointed out to my wife who's a new Australian, how different our elections (Qld State) are compared with America's - no one turning up strapped with assault rifles, yelling, screaming or committing violence. Maybe the ABC can reflect on this and leave the comment section on when discussing our own politics.

When you have an ultra conservative right-winger like Rupert Murdoch, a media mogul who runs his own media empire that owns highly influential U.S. media like Fox Corporation that includes Fox News, Fox Business and the Fox Broadcasting Network, News Corp that includes major publications like The Wall Street Journal and The New York Post, and Harper Collins Book Publishers - not including media in Australia like Sky News, Foxtel, The Australian, The Sun Herald, etc besides other major news media in the U.K., is it any wonder that the Murdochs run the narrative according to their agenda?
In today's election, many will vote in person, unlike in 2020 when, due to COVID, many voted by mail. Mainstream media does not attend any media conference that allows any presidential candidates to announce their win if the vote tally is not yet at 90%.
@jasonmilton As a Christian, I pray to God that Trump will not be reelected and will be punished for the sins he has committed and for using the name of God. They need to pay staff to moderate comments if they leave them on. There was a comment on the first episode of the series where they said they wanted to keep them open.

It's getting scary here, and I hope violence doesn't materialize. I'm not just worried, I'm downright spooked!
I'm afraid that the idiots will prevail.
If there is any trouble it will be around the state or county level counting this time.
Violence will materialise, the only real question is how many will be killed. Think back to the BLM protests and a few people were killed on both sides and that was considered peaceful. In Arizona in one of their counties they are literally setting up a paramilitary force to protect the vote and vote count.
Stay safe America
This is all about to happen again because a narcissistic sociopath refuses to admit he's a loser.
So the democrats intend to accept the results if Trump wins then?
And the supreme Court justices he appointed refuse to hold him accountable for multiple felonies, including instigating an insurrection

Despite the LNP stacking the ABC board with right wingers it still does an amazing job. As an Australian I am mostly proud of their work. The documentaries that programs like 4 Corners produce have done much to expose political and corporate corruption for many decades. It is a shame thst some of the polical discussion shows such as Insiders have been dumbed down to the point I no longer watch it.
The ABC is also led by a Liberal Party appointee.
The Insiders is presented by a former Fox News host.
Our political parties are not as far apart as in the US and there's still a level of civility.

I'll never complain about our mandatory voting system again in Australia. US citizens are welcome out here.
Compulsory voting- a democratic oxymoron.
Except for the gun nuts and god-botherers, which amounts to the same thing.

Not really.
The US courts dismantled the Fairness Doctrine, and have consistently ruled in favor of corporations and a handful of billionaires.
Why would the media report on how the media helped manufacture a problem that didn't exist to increase their own profits?

Oh please, the ABC is a parking spot for straight-out-of-University Lefties on the public purse. The ABC used to be good ... 30 years ago!
Yup.
And the blueprint for the next conservative administration in the US will get rid of what journalism the US currently has.....
Wow We Aussies have to produce this kind of stuff for Americans. That's insane.
Look at the dismantling of the Fairness Doctrine, the Glass-Steagal Act, and the passage of Citizens United.
It explains a lot.

Crazy, you don't see what's happening while the democrats are in power?? You must hate your country..
Also the “red mirage” in the way the numbers come in on election night plays right into Trump’s hands.
It will differ by state but the same playbook will be used. If Trump's ahead at midnight stop counting, if he's still behind days later all the votes need to be counted.
Agreed
Why go through all the drama of voting if Donald Trump is going to be de winner regardless of the outcome of the election???
Of course he will! He is a loser but won’t accept it. Ivana said he will not accept loss no matter how badly he loses!!
And all this adds up to...the GOP can't win legitimately.
They've been crooks ever since Eisenhower left office. Remember Trickie Dickie!
Polls are more reliable and yes do lean fairly close to 50/50 with a trump edge though it should be noted that’s in the electoral college outcome, the republicans rarely if ever win the popular vote in the modern age with them only winning it once this century in 2004.

The fact the ABC can leave the comments section on for America's political machinations and not our own is a sad situation for the peoples voice.

The funny thing is, this is our short form content. We have four corners and a few others that provide a more in depth analysis
It’s because the major media is owned by the new American oligarchy which wants Trump to win, it’s not a mystery.

I find it amusing that the ABC disables comments on all their videos, but decides to keep them open for those about the US election. No tensions running high here, no siree!
I'll bet comments will be disabled shortly, they've been disabled on every other episode of "if you're listening" that I've watched.
They need to pay staff to moderate comments if they leave them on. There was a comment on the first episode of the series where they said they wanted to keep them open.
They disable comments due to the high court decision from a few years back that leaves them open to be sued for defamation based on what is said in comment sections. For whatever reason this concern doesn't exist on foreign topics.
In halls of ABC they do not believe in Democracy or freedom of expression. Executives want to be a true state controlled propaganda agency.
