I got my C peptide test done. The result was 1.8 ng/ml. My fasting blood sugar was 93.93 mg/dl & my HBA1C was 4.90. I was diagnosed has Type 2 diabetic since the age of 36 years old. I am now 43 years old and have been on a OMAD intermittent fasting schedule for 2 years and eat a keto meal once a day.
I’m tired of my Dr brushing me off because I want preventative testing done. She only seems interested in testing (at a superficial level) what is already known/wrong to prove her diagnosis. I think it’s time to change Drs.
It is frustrating, but you have to keep in mind that many doctors are aggressively discouraged from doing more than those superficial tests. Many insurance companies won't pay for more sophisticated testing, claiming it's unwarranted. That means YOU get stuck with loads of out-of-pocket expenses.
4 months ago asked my Dr, through her phone assistant, for a C Peptide test, through the phone assistant, I was refused. I hate the modern medicine. thanks for the C peptide link.
Yeah, I managed to get my doctor to bend on the c peptide, but she completely refused the complete thyroid saying only TSH is useful. She's deferring the decision on sex hormone screen to the ob-gyn she referred me to. I really wish we could get status when well too. That's completely aside from the fact that I have symptoms that could justify those tests.
@@karenistre7305 switching doctors only helps if the next one is better. This one isn't horrible, she's actually ok, but a bit stuck in "traditional" thinking. However, I suspect most doctors are. I might have to kiss a lot of toads before I find a prince/princess (of a doctor). 😁 There's only 1 doctor listed on the Keto lists anywhere nearby and he's the wrong medical group so he's not covered by my HMO. No guarantee he'd order the thyroid panel either, but I'm guessing he'd be less likely to try to put me on statins for high LDL. FWIW, the OB/GYN won't do the sex hormone panel either because she thinks I'm peri-menopausal, so my hormones are fluctuating too much.
50 something Type 2 for over10 years. Been living Keto for 4 months seeing incredible results (A1C 9 4 -> 5 7). I finally had this test, walked in for 60.00. 14 hour fast, c-peptide level 1.71. Trying to get off Long acting. Down from 36 units; currently taking 4 units.
Just got my C-Peptide test and insulin ,cortisol and A1c. I can’t wait to share the results asap . I am all over the place and wake up high and sometime very low
Most physicians never need to go that deep to see that someone is unhealthy. It is for people like us who check our health on a daily basis and continue to stay informed watching Dr. Berry.
My results C-peptide 0.8 nmol/L HbA1c ngsp 5.9% HbA1c ifcc 41nmol/mol In Australia this is apparently a good result. What are typical readings in the USA .
My Doc finally agreed to do a C peptide and a A1C along with a Cardio IQ test. The medical docs of today are totally dictated by big Pharma I had to educate her on why and what test. Thanks Dr Ken for the education on health. Greatly appreciated from Pa

Thank you Dr. Berry for highlighting this little known molecule, and the importance of measuring it to gauge insulin resistance/hyperinsulinemia. Now, instead of having to go through a doctor and getting this test done in lab, if would be so nice if we could democratize access to a c-peptide test by getting a home testing kit developed. This would be a game changer! Think of how much the relatively inexpensive blood glucose meters, continuous glucose monitors, and blood pressure machines have done to empower the individual to take charge of their own health at home. I think a relatively inexpensive at home testing device that measures c-peptide would be the greatest tool ever invented to prevent a person from becoming a patient. I hope some engineer gets on this project. He or she, if she can develop such a device, will not only make the world a better place. He or she would become super wealthy.
Drake Santiago OR, an over the counter one time use test. Once you know, then your armed with the knowledge of what to do about it. Hopefully they could be affordable enough to maybe check it two or three times a year. I like your idea! 🙂
I greatly appreciate your hard work, what a wonderful informative video doctor. Sadly My 10 year old son got diagnosed with type1 diabetic almost a year ago. No one did a cpeptide test for him and right away they put him on insulin injection even though his insulin level was showing in a normal range during the blood test! When I asked how do they know he is type1 I was told that his blood test showed antibodies(GAD 65>250, and IA-2 0.37, Insulin autoantibody < 0.4, ) so they said he is type1 ..... It was super hard for me to believe this so I did take him to another doctor and he surprisingly said why they put him on insulin injection this early without telling me that if his is type1 or 2... after seeing the 2nd doctor I got more confused I start doing more research and came a cross of cpeptide... so I did push the 1st doctor to do the cpeptide test .. his cpeptide was 0.6 ... can you please let me know if 0.6 means type1 or not ? is it too low for 10 year old boy to have a 0.6 cpeptide.... are any type 2 diabetic in the world that has a antibodies too or antibodies are only for type1....his been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism as well and for some reason I been keep thinking that the thyroid is the main reason for all his blood sugar elevations.... Thankfully his thyroid is in the normal range now and he is on a very low insulin injection thanks to low carb/ keto diet. Please help.Thank you. As always you rocked it doctor 👍👍👍👍
GAD test is enough to confirm type 1. Your son’s pancreas is getting destroyed with those antibodies present and while he is still creating insulin the sooner he is put on insulin the longer his pancreas will live and keep on producing his own insulin.
@@KenDBerryMD I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 5 months ago I am 24. I got very sick. I lost weight. I went from 155 pounds to 123 pounds from February to july. My blood suger was 1,100mg/dl in the ER I was so thirsty and peeing a lot, I was week and vomiting. Beta hydroxybutyrate was present but urine ketones were not. My diagnosis was confirmed GAD level of 120+UI/ml, zinc transporter antibody levels of 22 UI/ml and a c-peptide of .3ng/dl. My a1c was 13.1 at diangnosis. I'm confused because my uncle my moms brother got diagnosed with type 2 at age 34. My moms dad has type 2 and he is 69 and got that at 45. My dads dad also has type 2. Am I really type 1? I'm also very insulin sensitive. Do you think I'm type 1 or LADA or type 2?
I asked my doctor this week to add C-Peptide to my bloodwork. I got the results and I am feeling horrible! Fasting insulin was 57.5 (2.6-24.9) and C-Peptide was 7.0. My A1C was 5.5, and fasting glucose was 129 (70-105). I don't know what my starting C-Peptide was, but my highest A1C was 9.4.
Hello doctor. Thank you for this video. My blood test for cpeptide is 1.2. Which is good correct? But my A1c is 5.7 and fasting glucose is 106. I’ve been on a keto for over 3 years. My A1c was 5.5, about 1 year into keto. And glucose was 99. Now its way up! I feel fine and have the same energy as before.
1.2 is within the healthy parameters : 1.1 to 5.0 which means that you body is using enough insulin in small quantities to take care of you glucogen!! your A1C is also within the limits. NOTHING to worry about. Check out Dr. Sten Ekberg on youtube for more
Thank you! I've also found that examining a patient no matter what they come in for and picking up things like acanthosis nigricans has led to me to testing patients too.
Thank you Dr Berry, Alas, I'm in the UK, so will not benefit from your link. As mentioned before, when I was initially diagnosed with T2D just over three years ago, I had an excellent DN, who gave me all the support and did not patronise me with the vague 'your results are okay'. Instead, she explained that my C-Peptide was elevated and that it indicated inflammation. Since she left the practice, I am no longer given this level of support. Indeed, as I have refused the GP's offer of statins, Ace inhibitors, insulin and all the other 'necessary' medications to 'manage' my 'progressive' condition, I have had only one A1c - and that only after pestering the practice - after which I was told absolutely nothing. Again, after several phone calls, I was eventually told that my A1c was, er, okay. When I asked about triglycerides, C-Peptide, I was told that they don't bother to measure that as it was not necessary. I finally got my actual A1c of 39 (UK metrics) after going into the surgery to make an appointment with the GP. A GP, btw, who I've never actually met. Of course, I did not meet him on that occasion either, but the receptionist was kind enough to save his time and effort, by finally divulging the limited results of the test. Hey, the NHS is free at point of need, but I actually pay tax and national insurance, and the results are mine, so what's the big deal about keeping them a secret. Maybe if I'd accepted the drugs, he would have been more forthcoming with the results. But then, we all know, I'd be fat, with sore joints and muscles, depressed as hell with a much higher A1c and a C-Peptide to match. Then, he'd be able to follow his training at 'medication' school, and prescribe even more pills to keep me going until the next hurdle. Eh, no thanks! I'll just stick with my 'dangerous' LCHF and IF 'fad' lifestyle.
Hi, Salty Soup! I just read your post. Is there any way you can visit somewhere that would offer you better support? You’d have a wonderful reason to take getaway holidays! It sometimes seems that no matter where we are, we’re between a rock and a hard place... Here’s hoping good C-Peptides and Just-Right Soup are in your days! ❤️ Blessings to you from Mississippi in the US.
Hi Salty Soup , I live in UK too and I had similar issues. However I discovered if you write to the practice manager and tell them you want online access to your records and test results, they have to give you access and will give you a personal letter which explains how to gain access and a unique code and login. You can then export all your test results to your own computer for you to analyse in your own time. I discovered that when I had rang in previous years to be told everything was "normal", that there were a few items that were right on limits of normal and the general picture in previous years was that they had gotten worse each year, although still "normal" !!! It appears that nobody bothers to compare previous results to see a pattern emerging !! Mention in letter to G.P. that you want full access as you want to take responsibility for your own health! Good luck and let me know back here now you get on. A receptionist reading out everything is "normal" over the phone is far from normal in itself, although sadly in the UK it is the norm and most people just accept everything they are told.😬
In UK .....would love cpeptide...homa-ir...haermatocrit....proper full thyroid...my docs wont even do d3! You could buy a Libre continuous glucose monitor to monitor sampling of glucose....not the same but would give you a good ballpark figure.
@@dlou3264 D'lou, Thank you for reading my post. I think our current situation is making us all a bit braver when it comes to questioning the established solution to health challenges. Today, we are fortunate to have the internet, PubMed, the good Dr Berry (and many others) to point us in the direction of an alternative to a slow slide into polypharmacy, sickness, obesity, blindness, kidney failure and amputation. The very best of wishes to you, too!
whomadethatsaltysoup Hi Again, Salty Soup! You Are So Welcome! It’s wonderful to read the thoughts of others, reach out over long spaces, people we would most likely never know otherwise. Here, it’s like a neighborhood. Reading your post, I thought, insulin resistance is so wide spread, over most every land I read about. Some escape it, mostly. I know and love someone who has fought it for decades and decades. Many close calls, momentary blackouts to near blackouts, vision problems, fighting obesity, leg ulcers, Terribly Dry skin, toenail fungus, and more. There was a parathyroid issue of some kind, too. Reading your post reminded me of his problems. His work schedule was extremely odd, difficult. He’s still battling sleep issues, obviously foundational. There was one prescription that was given to him that made him bleed. Frightening. He tried it a short tome (too long in my thinking), and told them straight out that he would not take that any more. They gave him something different. His was type 2, but went to 1 and 2. Then he got REAL serious about getting weight off. He’s made good progress, looks and feels better - not great but better. As for you, I hope you keep your chin up. You’re so much more than the sum of all your issues and problems. Your health is important, but you yourself are immensely more. I’ve had problems in my life where I can remember giving up hope, then fighting a battle to get it back. Hope is like health. It’s invisible, and it’s worth the inner struggle to keep it or to find it. I’ll be thinking about you and lifting you up. Be well, be safe, be free.
I've been struggling with Type 2 diabetes for 10 years now. I've been on Insulin for years. Even with a keto diet I just couldn't get off the insulin my alc is 7.5. After hearing about the c peptide test mentioned in another video of yours, I asked a new endocrinologist I started seeing to order the test, he acted like I didn't need it but went ahead and ordered. The results came back .2! He just put me on more insulin and didn't have much of an explanation. He just said sometimes the pancreas acts up. Now I'm thinking LADA, I'm 36 years old. Is this reversible? Where can I buy your book. I've learned more from watching you and Dr. Berg's videos than I have ever from any of the drs. Or diabetic nutritionists I've seen. Bless you Dr. Berry, you are helping so many.
BBBE (beef, butter, bacon, and eggs) works to get my blood sugar levels down considerable. I’ve been wearing a CGM for almost a month now, and very surprised at the results. Dr Berry has videos on BBBE. It works! Pretty sure it was originally his idea.
That's a low c peptide. It seems you have very little functioning pancreatic beta cells. You actually don't make much insulin. You would probably need to treat yourself like a type 1 diabetic, not a type 2. Of course, you can still eat a proper human diet, you just may actually need some insulin injections.
Crazy!! I clicked on the link for test labs and there’s a panel from the Integrative dr I used to see here in Peoria! Dr Jill Carnahan. She moved quite a few years ago but was awesome! Sad thing: no dr has ever done A1C for me.
Thanks to u sir i'm on the right track!!!!came across ur video's at the right time and by watching all ur video's and all the great detailed info u provided, i was able to change my life around.. already lost over 20kg (still need's to lose another 20-25kg) by just watching ur videos and following all ur advice on keto and i.f I believe i was pre diabetics as i had all the visible and physical symptoms and had major health problem's just waiting to happen... Thank you for all ur great work!! Love from 🇬🇧
My c-peptide test came out as 1.2 . The lab who did it says 1.1 is the lowest it should be. My A1c went up to 5.7 from being in the normal range before. I do try to keep a Low carb Keto type diet. I test my blood sugar. If I went off diet and ate a submarine type sandwich my blood sugar would go up to almost 160.
Y’all spiking to 160 is normal, mine will spike to 187 if I eat straight fruits and carbs, which I do every day. My c-peptide was 1.0 fasting insulin was 2.2 and A1c 5.4 and fasting sugar was 92 So all them numbers are fine, and my sugar will still spike to 180 something if I eat a lot of sugar in one setting. To me this all seems like a normal response 👌
Sharing with my daughter. She has neuropathy on her entire left side and partial on right side, pycos, fatty liver, A1C 12, blood sugar in the 300-400 range even with OMAD and IF. Has had over a half dozen endocrines and none of them can help her. Thanks for sharing.
My C-Peptide level is 2.9 (which appears to be normal) My fasting insulin is 14.8 (which is a bit high) My fasting glucose is 93 (which is on the high end of the normal range) I've been doing strict carnivore and fasting for about 3 weeks. I still have some work to do.
Dr. Berry - thank you so much for this info.- I'll order a C-Peptide test soon. I've also added a Glycomark test which I understand helps to better identify after meal blood glucose spikes in addition to A1C. At the end of May my A1C was 5.3 and Glycomark was 10.8. Working to get A1C below 5 and Glycomark above 15 with keto max 30 total carbs per day + intermittent fasting 16/8. Started low carb Jan 29 and have gotten more strict since - losing 34 lbs in the process.
My fasting insulin is less than 2, fasting glucose 90, A1c 5.6. Dr. Is saying I'm borderline Diabetic bc the pancreas is struggling to produce insulin. I've ask for C-peptide per Dr. Ken Berry's info. I hope this sheds some light on low insulin. I'm hoping I'm just very sensitive and efficient with insulin production rather than pre-diabetic
@@maplenookbtw I commented this years ago when I was dealing with blood sugar and insulin problems I have no idea how or why, but vitamin k1 helped me regulate my blood sugar and solve it Just in case you might be a solution you’re looking for
I despair of modern medical education. I'm an old-timer, from the days when you couldn't order a serum insulin, and we were taught to understand the value of c-peptide measurement
Most doctors doesn't want to do this test because they don't find it necessary, I went to two of them, same answer ( a big no) and should be mandatory.
My Nurse Practitioner ordered it for me and mine was elevated. While I thought I was eating a healthy diet (following the RDA) I have been suffering. I have dramatically changed my diet and looking forward to my next lab testing. I really hope it has come down.
👌👌👌very informative video Sir. Am from Mumbai India seen many of your videos, you are educating in simplified manner so that any layman can understand well, the complicated topics
On a scale of 1.1 to 4.4 my C-PEPTIDE is 4.0. Different labs use different scales so I understand. My Dr. did not think I needed this, I said do it... I have Ir but i also learned that my testosterone is in the dirt. (very low)
If I heard you correctly, you said that T2 can transition to LADA. How so? LADA, an autoimmune disease, is often misdiagnosed as T2. The way to differentiate them is to look at antibodies, like GAD, ICA, IA, etc. Of course c-Pep comes in handy to monitor the beta cell function of LADA pts who are using keto to delay needing insulin (or if ever). But true T2 has to do with insulin resistance (IR) - and although C-pep may come in handy, a fasting glucose along with a fasting insulin is a good way to check for IR and monitor its improvement. And reversal of T2, and improvement of IR comes with cutting out the carbs - and going keto if necessary.
I went to an Endocrinologist recently who tested my C-Peptide and told me I would benefit from Keto, (she must be one in a million). My C-Peptide was 2.0, so how does that happen with chronically high A1C? Thanks for ALL you do Dr. Berry!
A1C 5.5 my peptide test was 5.5 she said it was high so confirmed me as insulin resistant but she didn’t make me fast she just took my test wich I feel I should had been fasting
On my recent lab the reference range is 0.80-3.85 (ng/mL). You can search the transcript of this video...search key word "three" and it will pull up the quote from Berry. 6:45
Hello. I just reveived the following results from a test to understand if I have any Diabetes predisposition or risk: - Fasting Glucose: 90 mg/dL - A1c 5,44% - Insuline 3,07 uUI/ml - C Telopeptide 0,829 ng/ml - Glucose Pre/Post Pandrial Pre:89 Post 72 What does C Telopeptide result means? Do you think I have any risk of LADA? I am doing all these tests because in January I got a 105mg/dL fasting glucose result.
i'M 51 and just had my test done. My C-peptide results are 7.8 ng/mL and 2,574 Pmol/L both results relly high. Blood sugar is 105. A1C 5.9 Haven't gotten the Insulin results
Thank you for this video with this important information! I tried to get this test from my ex doctor and now with my current doctor , and both refused to do this test! First doctor even lied to me and told me i couldnt get the test because it couldnt differentiate between insulin i was making and insulin i was taking, which i found out later is a lie! Anyway , i have finally been making progress over the last year through Keto and IF , and hearing truth from you and DR Berg and DR Fung just to name a few of you many wonderful caring Doctors, who actually care about helping us to get better, after years of being made sicker because Doctors aren't researching new discoverys and breakthroughs, I think the problem is that so many are getting their continuing education through Big Pharma Reps and so there it is! Type 2 diabetes i am focusing on because that is what i have supposedly been suffering with?! , is not being treated properly for millions of us! I actually got the feeling that i couldnt get this C-peptide test , because the doctor didn't want me to find out i have sufficient or maybe even too much of my own insulin, because then i wouldbe asking why am i being prescribed insulin when that is obviously not my problem?! From what i understand now, the injected insulin forces the glucose into the cells so that blood sugar numbers look better , but every cell and organ in the body being stuffed is actually making the person sicker! That insulin resistance is actually the body's way of protecting cells and organs, but of course not good for high glucose to remain in the blood, so that is where the diet and exercise becomes essential! I am just trying to figure this out after so many years of misinformation! Ugh! Thank you so much for your videos DR Berry!
I've had almost all the symptoms extreme frequent urination ,sometime to the point I dont go long distances, slow healing wounds ,weight loss, fluid in my calves, when I press leaves my fingerprint dented in....Also when I eat starchy foods I fall right asleep, as if someone put something on my food I wake up looking around like what happen ,My AC1 level is 5•6.....I've been told to have follow up by 2 different facilities My primary doctor even listed diabetics type 2 on my paper work ,but when questioned she said it was an error At this point I feel I need to change doctors.....
Aren't C-peptide levels directly related to glucose levels? Thus a better way to assess has to be a table of C-peptide vs Glucose . For example: Fasting glucose, which is usually lower, can equate low c-peptide and high glucose events coincides with highest c-peptide levels. Thanks
Thanks, doc! [Please stay safe!!] I am taking notes, and my first "PCP dr appt" by phone [ever] will be PAcked full of new info and my questions. He seems to love it when I come in with written questions.
Thank you so much for sharing this information and for all your videos. I am going look into getting this on my own, if my insurance doesn't cover. This should become a first step test for checking insulin levels.
Why not test insulin directly? I understand that it fluctuates on demand but a fasting insulin taken with a glucose level in the same draw will let you calculate HOMA-IR. Is HOMA-IR not a good measure?
I checked the link for the lab test and the price seemed high. Checked the 2 places I use and it's way less. Try Life Extension or Ulta Lab. Love looking at your UT diploma in the background and it kind of makes me homesick for Tennessee. Moved to the Bayou country in 1972.
IMy husband and I provide shared living with an older gentleman (74). He recently had blood work done. His fasting glucose level was 100 and A1C is 5.7. I had my husband to ask the doctor to do a fasting insulin test and he said it wasn't needed, his blood sugar was normal. I'm thinking if he is at the upper level of the these ranges while fasting than this man might be in big trouble. My husband says the doctor told him that all was well. He believes the doctor. What say Dr. Berry or the public?
@@jdtown6585 thanks for your response. I just started ketovore for myself and our client about two weeks ago. His BP was very high on the last visit. It might be too soon to tell but I’ve already noticed that he passes less gas! That’s a good start, lol. I’ve also heard if you divide triglyceride number by HDL you get an equivalent fasting insulin number.
I just received my P-Peptide result and I am at 0.51. The normal range is 0.8-3.85. I’m just wondering where can I get the missing 0.29 so I can be normal 🤔. I appreciate any advice or donations.
My doc was so combative on this but I won. The insurance didn’t even charge me probably because I did have a high fasting glucose test once. Off the top of my head I think it was 1.96 which I think is fine.
@@dodyh657 I'd get both. C peptide will tell you if your type 1 or 2 or presently diabetic. If you have to choose do that first. A1c will tell you average blood sugar level over 3 months.. If you are diabetic get a Dexcom sensor 6 or 7...
Tip: make sure you get somewhat obese before asking your doctor these tests. I asked mine for an apoB and c-peptide test, just for scientific curiosity since I know I'm perfectly healthy, and he refused to order them saying there was no need for it.
Sad but not surprising - right? I am RN - son was diagnosed with Type 1 at 27 no one on either side of family has this. Now called Latent onset Type 1. He has MTHFR SNP. Now he is a customer - Diabetes is expensive and extremely life changing. Processed food too many drugs are factors in the diminishing health of our young people. Will be asking for this test thanks Dr Berry
I'm retired Lab assistant/tech and phlebotomist. It's probably a send out to Mayo. Special handling. Lab Drs are called Pathologist. You need to have an order. You could speak to the Lab Director. But they used to send them out. Mayo picks up at hospitals. I think somebody is pulling someone's leg here. This doesn't seem right at all. Life Extension does lab tests too. They used to. Check them out as well. No Dr order needed.
we have learned how c-peptides and insulin are produced - but how are they consumed? i.e. what is the chemical process that removes them from the blood?
My doctor is not familiar with the c-peptide test. While I was attending a metabolic clinic he was asked to write a lab requisition for the c-peptide test. He complied but confessed that he was not familiar with it. That may be why some doctors refuse to order the test. They do not know how to interpret the results.
As a 70-year-old woman in New Zealand, I was diagnosed with diabetes 4 months ago but the doctors didn't know which type. I requested a c-peptide, got it, and it came back as 851 pmol/L. How does this measurement correlate with the 0.8-3.8 of the US? Still don't know which type!
In Google search for "units lab c peptide". The first link will take you to a conversion page on UnitsLab where you can convert pmol/L to ng/mL. 851 pmol/L converts to approx. 2.57 ng/mL.
Strict Carnivore to 2 years now. Had a C Peptide test done, got the result today, and got a score of 9.5. Hba1c is 7.6. I want to know why??? Doc wants to put me on diabetic meds-.
Those numbers sound crazy for strict carnivore! Are you eating dairy? There's still plenty of sugar (lactose, galactose) in milk, yoghurt, etc. Otherwise the only thing I can think of is that somehow your body is synthesizing far more glucose (probably gluconeogenesis from lipolysis) than your cells are taking up. If you are carrying a lot of body fat and are losing weight I suppose this could happen... The only thing that might help in that case would probably be more exercise and/or losing weight more slowly.
Managed to get my doctor to order A1c and c peptide (no luck on complete thyroid as she insisted TSH was all that was useful ☹️). Anyway, A1c was 5.0 and C peptide was 0.5. I've been keto for about 1.75 years and 95+% carnivore for a bit over 3 months. According to my results my A1c is normal and my C peptide is below normal, so I'm guessing that's good? I definitely don't have hyperinsulinemia in any case. 😁
I think on keto/carnivore your C-peptide result probably *should* be below normal, since your body is using very little insulin since it is running on fat rather than carbohydrates. Dr. Berry didn't talk about that, but it's logical that this would be physiologically normal on such a diet if you've been on it long-term. Remember that the reference ranges for this are based on the metabolism of a population of carb-eaters. I'd only be concerned if the value was near 0.0 and you were having hypoglycemic attacks like a T1 diabetic (in which case you'd probably be one).
I want to have this test.. sometimes I feel like I make some insulin. I'm a type one diabetic. 3 yrs since I was diagnosed. I'm going to star eating a Paleolithic ketogenic diet next week with a small group of type one diabetics so we can all supporteach other. Can you make a video with Zonia from paleomedicina Hungary Dr. Berry please. 💜
Very interesting but what about "us" who have been on Carnivore for a few years and have Insulin Suppression? My C-Peptide, measured recently, showed that I have a value of 0.225nmol = 225pmol/L = 0.675ng/mL which, according to my doctor requires urgent and immediate attention.
I just found out I have LADA but my C-peptide was 1.5...however my GAD test was 378 which is the antibody test. Are you saying I was type 2 and turned into type 1 or was I misdiagnosed as a type 2 first?
Hi! Dr. Berry, thanks for your knowledge, my C-Peptide test is positive of 426 and my Dr. Is giving Glymepiride & Metformin plus Rybelsus which is very expensive, I doing chicken broth soup with some vegies plus apples as many as I can eat daily, can you give me an input? Thanks
Mine was recently c-peptide 6.83 and insulin at 415 I've spoken to the doc but nope not having it unfortunately but not sure what to do
Fantastic!

I’m tired of my Dr brushing me off because I want preventative testing done. She only seems interested in testing (at a superficial level) what is already known/wrong to prove her diagnosis. I think it’s time to change Drs.
Yup! Go for it!
It is frustrating, but you have to keep in mind that many doctors are aggressively discouraged from doing more than those superficial tests. Many insurance companies won't pay for more sophisticated testing, claiming it's unwarranted. That means YOU get stuck with loads of out-of-pocket expenses.

@@gullinvarg order them yourself and switch doctors

Fasting insulin was 57.5 (2.6-24.9) and C-Peptide was 7.0. My A1C was 5.5, and fasting glucose was 129 (70-105). I don't know what my starting C-Peptide was, but my highest A1C was 9.4.
Has this improved over the past two years?

Thank you Dr Berry,
Alas, I'm in the UK, so will not benefit from your link.

D'lou, Thank you for reading my post.

That's a low c peptide. It seems you have very little functioning pancreatic beta cells. You actually don't make much insulin. You would probably need to treat yourself like a type 1 diabetic, not a type 2. Of course, you can still eat a proper human diet, you just may actually need some insulin injections.

Berry!

Aren't C-peptide levels directly related to glucose levels? Thus a better way to assess has to be a table of C-peptide vs Glucose . For example: Fasting glucose, which is usually lower, can equate low c-peptide and high glucose events coincides with highest c-peptide levels. Thanks

Why not test insulin directly? I understand that it fluctuates on demand but a fasting insulin taken with a glucose level in the same draw will let you calculate HOMA-IR. Is HOMA-IR not a good measure?

@@caseyglenar7268 Haha, good start overall.
I just received my P-Peptide result and I am at 0.51. The normal range is 0.8-3.85. I’m just wondering where can I get the missing 0.29 so I can be normal 🤔. I appreciate any advice or donations.
I’m trying to get my mum to live healthier, she has type 2 diabetes. She says I’m just living my life and I’m not worried 🤦🏻
May god give you the strength and your mom the strength stay strong and keep pushing
Contact Dr Jennifer Daniels she can help her without chemicals.
@Ben James. You are very cute how you take care of your mommy. Same happens with my dad
Thanks
My doc was so combative on this but I won. The insurance didn’t even charge me probably because I did have a high fasting glucose test once. Off the top of my head I think it was 1.96 which I think is fine.
Which is better test, A1C vs C Peptide?
Thanks Doc
@@dodyh657 I'd get both. C peptide will tell you if your type 1 or 2 or presently diabetic. If you have to choose do that first. A1c will tell you average blood sugar level over 3 months.. If you are diabetic get a Dexcom sensor 6 or 7...
Tip: make sure you get somewhat obese before asking your doctor these tests. I asked mine for an apoB and c-peptide test, just for scientific curiosity since I know I'm perfectly healthy, and he refused to order them saying there was no need for it.
Very good and informative, wished you were in the state of New York, I would certainly be one of your patients!
I told my dad to take this c-peptide test, and all the lab docs didn’t know anything about it. That’s sad.
Yeah. . Chemistry Lab Techs would know
Sad but not surprising - right?
I am RN - son was diagnosed with Type 1 at 27 no one on either side of family has this. Now called Latent onset Type 1. He has MTHFR SNP. Now he is a customer - Diabetes is expensive and extremely life changing. Processed food too many drugs are factors in the diminishing health of our
young people.
@Michael Carney I never had any problem
I understand that c-peptide is a proxy marker for insulin. But other than that, what does cpeptide do for your body?
Any ideas?
Thank you Dr Berry. Mine was 1.42 which according to you is good right?
If that's a fasting c pep, you could be underproducing insulin but you are in the acceptable range.
Could you calculate HOMA IR using C-Peptide instead on Insulin ?
we have learned how c-peptides and insulin are produced - but how are they consumed? i.e. what is the chemical process that removes them from the blood?
How do you use C-peptide test results for dm2 on insulin for past 5 years due to repeated pne and atelectasis.
Ca. 6:30 norm
My doctor is not familiar with the c-peptide test. While I was attending a metabolic clinic he was asked to write a lab requisition for the c-peptide test. He complied but confessed that he was not familiar with it. That may be why some doctors refuse to order the test. They do not know how to interpret the results.
I understand you can lower insulin, but is it possible to raise insulin as well? And if it is, how do you do it? Please let me know. Ty
Thanks for the information. Is it safe to assume that I will not need this test at an A1c of 5,1?
As a 70-year-old woman in New Zealand, I was diagnosed with diabetes 4 months ago but the doctors didn't know which type. I requested a c-peptide, got it, and it came back as 851 pmol/L. How does this measurement correlate with the 0.8-3.8 of the US? Still don't know which type!
In Google search for "units lab c peptide". The first link will take you to a conversion page on UnitsLab where you can convert pmol/L to ng/mL. 851 pmol/L converts to approx. 2.57 ng/mL.
You could use internet to convert c peptide value from one unit to another
What doctor will order this test ? Will insurance cover it ?? Thanks Dr.Berry
Is Homa IR test more important or C-peptide? which one is more telling?
@@andreafalconiero9089 That was my guess too.
I know others who have reversed their diabetes with keto and carnivore lifestyle. Best of luck to you and group.
@@bprathe3205 thanks!! Yes. But I'm a type one diabetic, is different! I do know type two diabetics that have reverse their diabetes! Thank you 😊
Which fruit is not allowed for diabetes?
Thanks
