I know that this is really about 'UK cold' , but hand warmers are a good idea especially for a long run. They retain heat for about 8 hours and in fact are extremely hot initially. I run in Canada and wear 2-3 pairs of gloves plus maybe 2 hats and a balaclava to prevent skin from freezing. Slip on studs that fit over shoes are also very helpful when running in snow. If properly dressed it can still get quite warm and I recall running in -30 with no wind and actually overheating as I had too many layers. I sometimes wish that I was back in UK and all I had to deal with was the rain!

Ah nice! I used hand warmers for my snowy runs last year and they were brill. Rain is kinda gross though, I'd prefer snow haha

A brilliant piece of cold weather kit is the new Montane Protium Fleece Balaclava. It's like a hat and snood/buff combined and is long enough to tuck into your top/jacket. I used it yesterday on the trails in sub zero temperatures and kept me toasty.

Here in the southern hemisphere we are struggling with running in the 40s. (celsius) 🥵😅

    Be Brave Run Cold.....
You warm up and don't have to carry all those layers
I always carry gloves and a Buff scarf if I need them

I find having kit ready by the back door the night before gives one less excuse not to run on a cold morning. I always put on a warm cosy layer as soon as I’m home from my run and have a hot drink. Merino wool socks also help on a cold run plus running tights and a shell like the OMM Halo which has a hood and sleeves which are like gloves. You can adjust the jacket as you heat up.

You are so right - if the roads becomming too slippery I also go running on the trails 😅 And the thing about breathing through the nose at slow pace when super cold is particularly interesting. I definitely have to try it out 👍 Thank you for sharing

Good luck! It's horrible at first and involves a lot of snot rocketing, but then as you get used to it it's game changing!

I miss UK 'winter' ! I'm running in -15 to -20 during winter period nowadays. So quiet and calm with no people around.

Great tips! I also wear shoes in winter that are a half size larger, to make room for wool socks. I have Reynauds, so I only run in wool socks, which will still feel warm even when wet. And nose breathing has helped my asthma SO much, and helps keep me in zone 2. Unless I'm on hills or speeding up, I always breathe through my nose now. And I LOVE yoga and pilates is great for running, horseback riding, and getting off the sofa without cursing! 😂 It'll be great to see how your gym work translates to your running!

These are very useful tips, thanks! Nose breathing has helped me manage effort level on hills too, it's been a game changer (though not much atm, I'm useless at hills!) 😅

HiHiHI , I Love the treadmill, in fact I trained for a 100km race purely on a treadmill, bar 1 or 2 long runs. I still do most of my training on a treadmill lol , I guess I will graduate to being a real runner someday 🙂. Lovely tips , thank you Flora. Regards from your "neighbour" in Paris. Stay warm :-)

No waayyyy that's awesome! Any particular reason you did it that way? Haha that's a great answer to anyone who says treadmill runners aren't 'real' runners 😅

@@FloraBeverley Geez, good question. Like you said in your video, perhaps it's easier, naaaahhhhhhh, my real reason is that I wanted the mental toughness , which you get when running for 1-2 hrs on a treadmill. I wanted to run even paced, it was a road and footpath race and level, so I trained at 1 pace only, over and over and over and over, and eventually completed the race fairly evenly paced, the pace at which I trained. Lastly, I get a kick out of telling people who intensely dislike treadmills what I told you, and then watch their reactions. PS. I am training for BADWATER 267VR in January, on a treadmill!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL . Google that race, yes organised by Chris Kostman himself

@@LilacRunner267thats masochism lol. I get bored after 10min in a treadmill, cant imagine 1h.
For me a big part of running is having fun. I cant imagine running so much and being bored, I personally wouldn last long
      Congrats on your achievement
