I've always said that bodysurfing is my main type of meditation. Becoming one with the ocean removes you from the daily stresses of life and rejuvenates the mind, body and soul!
one of the few things left that are understated, uncluttered, without gear and opinions of, it's non competitive, it's soulful, natural, it is void of corporate interests....a beautiful search of something there isn't enough of. Liquid yoga? Sure. Wet meditation? Why not. After a life of surfing i no longer have an interest in all that...bodysurfing strips away the surf culture and everything else, while providing so many answers to so many questions.
Being pummelled by an ocean wave as it crashes to the shore is the ultimate in helplessness. To submit to that force is empowering and belittling. You must trust in something that is neither intelligent nor cruel. Hold your breath and your body as a vehicle to harness it's energy.
The paradox of body surfing. Wait for a great wave. Settle for an okay ride, but nothing special. Go back to the line up. Repeat. Resolve, you'll stop when you get good ride. Get that great ride. Shit, I gotta go back for more! Wait for the next great wave. Repeat until it gets dark or the waves die out.
I Kai Keali’ikea’ehale O Kaholokai has created a Bodysurfing pamphlet which us Hawai’ian called Kaha (Body) Nalu (Surf) back in 1969 growing up in Waimanalo near Maka’pu’u Bodysurfing Beach, but it took Duke Kahanamoku to introduce KahaNalu to Australia and California back in 1912-1914’s, so yoga of bodysurfing make sense because KahaNalu was always a Spiritual Experience manifestated in the Physical. 🌊🙏🏽❤️
Grew up bodysurfing pre-Hurricane Iwa Brennecke's on Kauai and, later, Panic's, Sandy Beach, Makapu'u and Pipeline on Oahu. I don't know about the yoga part. But I do know it's exciting, beautiful, fun, physically demanding and a challenge.
Aloha. Yes Brennecke’s had the Best tubes especially at sunset w/ the green flash peeking through. Was the only wahine out there when it got huge most of the time. N Hanakapiai was Magical Emerald tube city. I would skip my Tai Chin yoga class if the waves were firing. N my teacher said it was ok becuz I was doing the dance of life w/ the Ocean n breath control.
You don't know what you are talking about man. You really have no idea how big balls one must have to ride those big waves.... If you don't know what you are doing, you'd drown right away in a wipe out.

Have to laugh at the ppl using fins a wetsuit a hand board and still call it body surfing
Another elitist, surfing is surfing.
Try surfing at my break without a wet suit and you would die of hypothermia
