Now if only I could figure out how to shade well
It is just learning and practising fundamentals - Values
I’m your 100 like
Step 1: Draw a colored artwork
Step 2: Remove colors
There you go
Shading
Now if I only knew how to draw...
You just color it in however you want and then add shading whether it's transparent, foggy, or just a black shadow
Omfg it was that easy the whole time.
Yes 👍
He made it LOOK easy 😅
It still isn't easy though T_T Always, when i first make render with black n white i'm like well, hehe, only thing left is just to color it! And than all the layer effects just doesn't work like i want them to and colors look dirty and picture is a mess.
Ikr! for some reason I am use to coloring greyscales with shading but I am not use to coloring with shading xD
Still not easy, just easier to understand
me who's only ever used overlay and add: 🗿
no but srsly where was this video when i needed it most
haha
Don't forget about multiply and color burn
Nothing wrong with doing it that way!
Me who just doesnt use the belnding modes: 💀💀💀
Use linear light and color light at varying opacities and saturations instead of add thank me later
One of the most painful feelings is adding color to a greyscale and having it still “feel” B&W
haha yeah...
I think that happens when you also color the lineart, this one didn’t have any but if it did it could feel more like a print for a shirt than a finished colored artwork
You can also use gradient maps that are available in almost any program and they pretty much work the same you just need to learn to use them
@@runnersofthepast Photoshop, it seems.
🤔
Whattt?
they are so much easier
This is good advice for coloring/rendering in general. Hue shifting is great! Shadow and highlight colors usually aren’t the same hue as the base color. Usually the light is warm (orangey/yellowish), which makes the shadows cool (blueish). Simple yet hard to spot and so, so effective!
Happy you like it and I hope it helps
Surfaces (matte, specular, transparent, translucent, and hybrid surfaces) react differently in shadow and light. This should be taught, but doesn't.
With translucent surfaces like skin, the rule for shadows is more nuanced. The shadow colors tend to be redder and more saturated due to subsurface scattering of blood and muscles. If you throw in a cool ambient light and reflected light, you will end up with a more "purplish" shadow (reddish + bluish hue). Use an overlay mode which is additive for the reflected light in the skin shadows.
„It looks a bit radioactive“ 😂
Thanks for the video, I always struggle with grayscale to color
haha, happy to help
I always use the other layer effects and ignored the color layer... I never knew it could be this powerful especially on grayscales..
Happy that it helped
Great advice, now I just gotta learn how to draw
haha you can do it
The rendering looks so perfect wth 👁👄👁
thank you very much
Very helpful! Never thought about balancing shadows and lights separately on color layers! You're a life saver, mate!
happy to help
That's fantastic! I wonder what the clip studio equivalent is.
Thank you, probably it is very similar
Hue? I think
@@artsysparksit's just Color
Not only this method is more manageable to work with, but very useful when the client would like it with a different color and you can change it with no problem.
Where if you shaded directly with colors and you need to make any big changes, it will be a headache to do so.
Thanks for sharing!
okay i do this coloring method as well and yea its kinda look fine yet it's missing something which i fix by overpaint above the color layer...guess i'll try the adjustments too pretty neat
I use a mix of Soft and Hard Light above the Color to make it more lively.
Yes, exactly 👍
This video opened my eyes somehow. Recently I started to struggle with shading method and colouring, I'm still studying as an artist but this very helpful! Now I wish to try a grayscale shading method.
Glad it was helpful!
Never disappoints
Thank you very much, happy to help
"Here's how to add color to your art"
I'm listening.
"So theres this layer-"
Im out
haha
just like me fr
Could also use gradient maps and be able to change everything on the fly.
yeah...maybe
LOL this would work, but unfortunately when i mess with black and white i tend to end up doing everything on the same layer so i cant just simply color the skin with one thing, i'd have to manually try to trace each portion with the color layer and it doesn't work out well if there are small patterns or textures unfortunately
haha ohh noo... 😅
This one artist: don't start in black and white you won't get enough color variation
OP: here's how you add color variation
haha
Now if only i owned this program so i could do this
You can do this in any software for painting that has layers
Oh my god!you're really talented!thanks for making this kind of tutorials and content ,it's helpful for improving my art style ^^
Happy to help
that little paper guy was so cute :>
haha happy you liked it
Shsdows will generally be cooler and less saturated. And light reflected from the surroundings might be more visible in them. Hence, turn the saturation in shadows down a bit and and add a bit of the ambient colour.
👍It really depends on the mood and scenery
I've been searching for this video for YEARS!!!
haha well there you go 😊 hope you like it
oh rad! for the skin for some colored shadow variation i would even add some cool-to-grey tones around em to emphasize the shadows :o
👍👍🤔🤔🤷🤷
"it looks a little bit radioactive" LMAO me every time I look at one of my drawings
haha 👍
I love it ❣️ also, your art is so beautiful ❤️😍
Thank you so much!!
If only I had a "colour" layer mode in my program
Which one are you using that doesn't have that?
@@corasundae oh cool i saw you in a video about teto sv
anyways i use sai2 lol :p
Really? Which software are you using?
He sounds like a wholesome Gru
haha I get that a lot... and I really don't hear it 😅
Missing the UA-cam videos my man 🥲
Coming today
your art is so fun and refreshing to look at, i love browsing through your shorts and tips :)
Thank you very much
Man you save my life
haha happy to hear that
OMG TYSM!!! I was struggling to colour my monochrome art until now!!! tysm!!
happy to help
Innovative. I have noted this.
awesome
I would also try gradient mapping as it should give you nearly full control over hues and saturation without doing any more painting.
it is good workflow
This made even easier coloring
happy to help
Cool, I'll keep that in mind.
great, hope it helps you
Do you divide each body parts into different layers?
It is not necessarily each body part, but what makes sense from an art - color and material point of view
the transitions make it a lil harder to see the difference between shots but i think i have a better understanding now
🤷
This is a very informative video thank you 😢
happy to help

okey

It’s perfect!! I need deeper tutorial about this technique 🥺🥺
p.s. I found this on your channel. You’re amazing artist!
Thank you so much!!

@@LucasPeinador :000 that’s cool!!
Amazing.
thank you
Finally, something for my black and white drawing bum
Hope this helps you 👍
My favourite way to color tbh.
👍👍
Ah yes, I had hundreds of fully rendered grayscale pictures with all the possible areas of color separated into different layers. What a novel solution to this relatable problem!
Awesome 👍
The context this video doesn’t explain is that doing art in grayscale first is a technique artists sometimes use to focus on their values-the lightness and darkness of different areas-without worrying about color at the same time, because the values are super important for the depth and mood of a piece.
I haven’t tried it yet myself, but if someone is practicing that technique, learning a new way to set up their layers to easily add and adjust color at the end could be super useful. That’s what this is for.
I've always wanted to try this, but drawing in gray kinda feels depressing lol
haha
Thanks for the tips😁 also you sound like Angel Ganev
Happy to help👍 what??!!
How to do this on Ibis paint please
Very similar, if it has layers and layer mood - the process is the same
@@LucasPeinador tysm you changed my live rn
you sir.........i have to sub you're my holy grail for art college
haha
I love it
thank you
NICE DUDE
Tnx men
do you have a full video on this method?
Yes it is on my channel
❤
👍👍
I found another really good method. 1st = normal grey layer. second = colour set to hard light mode. 3rd = grey layer again set to overlay. you can tweek the grey layers if it's too bright/dark and if the colour isn't a good saturation or want a different colour you can use the hue and saturation filter.
it may also be a style preference but for my art style this method works incredibly especially for adding coloured patterns too
note: this won't work for multiple colours on the same layer, meaning you need 3 total layers for each colour you add (gradients can stay on one layer), you may end up with alot of layers depending on how you intend to colour it, so be warned. personally I don't find this an issue because folders are a thing.
Interesting, thank you for your comment
This is cool
thank you
Me watching this in black and white like
🤡🤓 ah, yes. Colors.
haha
I find that the color layer always looks grayish, at least on procreate
really? well you can always adjust it
there isnt a color mode in sai so i add the colors on a multiply layer and then add purple on an overlay layer beneath the multiply one. then shift around the hue and saturation until it looks good :0
🤷🤔
I like your funny words Magic Man!
haha tnx 👍
Final someone who FUCKING EXPLAINS IT THANK YOU SO MUCH
haha happy to help
@@LucasPeinador i'm sorry for the burst its just that this has helped me so much
Also does masking work for backgrounds?
Bro what the actual fuck. I’m new to digital art and color in general and had NOOOO idea this was possible and it makes so much more sense as to what I’ve been struggling with 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
haha happy to help, hope this works for you👍
Damn lovely information *cries in phone art*
haha
This is amazing! What program do you use ?
Thank you, Procreate and Photoshop
Is there a way to do that in procreate? If so please make a tutorial if you haven't already😭
yes it is, it is very very similar👍 okey maybe in the future
Maybe this will make it easier to draw. I always shade with colors, and not with black and white
👍
What paint app is this? I’d love to use it
This is Photoshop
Which software are you using and its mac or ipad love the artwork btw~!
photoshop 👍
are you brazilian? the accent reminds me a lot, even great job!
haha no, I am from Costa Rica. Thank you
Can u make video how to matching color skin tone and background?
I will try to make it in the future, thank you for letting me know
Bruh aight ill do this when it the weekends

Does anyone know if they have this on ibis 😭
if you have layers... it should work

Do you have a video on how to work with masks? how did you do the ones in this vid??
There are a few short ones
Is this Krita? Also, do you have a video on making your art black and white?
Nop, yes I do... it is on my channel
How do you make it so that your color dosent spill outside the borders even though its on a different layer?
yeah it is called masking
If only it was that easy
So anyways I just color after I draw on a bottom layer
👍
how do you made that mask layer that allows you to paint on your drawing without you going over the lines?
I make the masks in separate layers... you can check out my 2 lates videos for the process
How do you paint over the grey layer that way? I need help with that please, I never understood it 🙏
I have a longer YT video on my Channel about that
@@LucasPeinador thank you very much!
Would this work on clip studio paint?
I've tried similar method in csp, and yea it should work
Yes, it should work
you kinda sound like that sea otter from octonauts
haha really? 🤔
@@LucasPeinador after doing some research... You do ^^
What software do you draw with?
Photoshop and Procreate
I see these types of videos and think "great! I can't wait to use this in my own art!" Until I remember my method is ass backwards and will probably forever prevent me from getting a good end product out lol
haha I am sure you can do it
In used to directly put the final color lol. This is logical but at the same time almost alienistic to me. But honestly is better for merch.
haha
oh this seems easy
(types) "how to do this on ibis paint"
haha it is exactly the same process, no matter the software
It look amazing, but i heard that a lot of people say not to shade with black or grey, to instead using the opposite color or a darker color. What would you reccomend??
yeah definitely don'† shade with black because it will make your colours really muddy
how did you render the illustration like that?!
You can check out my last 2 videos
can you tell me what brush you use?
My LP Brushes - the link is in the description
Is the color layer only on the latest version?
nop
After this, would you collapse the layers and do any corrective painting?
yes of course, I will do some overpaints
Wow
👍
Which software and tablet do u use?
this was don ein Photoshop on my Wacom Cintiq
