As a Japanese, it's so satisfying seeing an all Japanese cast for the Japanese characters (not just some ambiguous Asian person who's casted to portray a Japanese person who might not know the language); Ken Watanabe is always amazing at his role and I love Ansel's Japanese here there's a clear authenticity that goes outside of the weird exoticism or tropes that you might see in other portrayals of the country :)) The new Brad Pitt movie with Bullet Train was uh mildly disappointing according to the trailers (shitty Japanese from a 'Japanese' character, nonJapanese Asians portraying Japanese people. the original work using the shinkansen kanji while the movie transliterated the English 'bullet train' into the Japanese 'bullet' and 'train' and said that was that) so I was a bit nervous about this BUT ITS SO GOOD I love it so much it properly represents the culture without misrepresenting the language, people, or culture, and has a great cast!

Whenever you have an English speaking white male character living in a different country they either only speak english to everyone as if everyone can understand or throw out a couple tragically pronounced lines in the other language. It's really quite refreshing to see multiple lines in Japanese coming from Ansel though with not terrible pronunciation or delivery.
My cousin was JET for 4 years after taking Japanese for 4 years and people always talked to her in English and be surprised if she spoke back in Japanese lol
The book was graphic, I'm half Japanese and I didn't realise how little the laws protect women in this country once you're in trouble, it's even worse if you're a foreign woman. This was not a book that makes Japanese society look good at all, so I wonder how this series will be seen by the nationalists who look the other way at the questionable behaviours in their own society. There wasn't so much "action" in the book as this series, it's Americanised for entertainment but the book itself was well written.

Cant wait to watch this and see if i've been to any of the places they filmed! I've gone about 7 times in the past 8 or so years and have gone to some shady bars but were always accompanied by Japanese and wondered about this type of stuff. Always felt safe though!
The book was great and this looks completely different but extremely watchable. Can't wait. Anyone that liked Tokyo Vice by Jake Adelstein should check out Confessions of a Yakuza by Junichi Saga.
@@Switcher1972 Well, Guy, I was anticipating that. I didn’t just pop out the womb. I didn’t think he was going to remake ‘Black Rain’ frame by frame. I don't understand why people always say this lately. It was generally agreed by critics that he and Shailene Woodley were outstanding in The Fault in our Stars. People loved his acting, up until the last couple of years where he was accused of something.
Michael Mann doing this and it has "Vice" in the title. Either this is gonna be instant classic or at least watchable. But i cannot imagine this to fail.
Studio marketing teams started doing this once skipping an ad after 5 seconds became a thing. They basically want to show a couple key shots and the title so they’re at least building a little awareness even if most people skip the ads.

The bad representation and casting of Japanese culture is definitely a Hollywood phenomenon
I'm not japanese but I feel proud of you guys, i love japanese people and the culture (wish I was fluent in japanese tho)
Dude Ansel’s Japanese pronunciation is actually really close!! Kudos for him putting in so much effort in studying the accents too👏🏽
I love when the cast try to speak another language fluently, even just a few sentences.
They usually spend months learning the language, actually.
Shows the authenticity. I like that aspect too.

YO I READ THIS BOOK SO LONG AGO. I thought Daniel Radcliffe was going to play the lead for a movie but I'm stoked to see this was made into a series.
After Baby was released from prison, he took journalism as a profession. Moved to Japan. But even here, they had him fetch morning their coffee !!!

The book was really good, so hopefully the series will be as well.
