Our first experience with mezze was even more amazing. We got all the sides that we mention in this episode PLUS 20 courses of one piece apiece of a wide variety of meats served in a myriad of styles. And then still French fries at the end. When we were stuffed full and couldn't eat anything more and told the waiter we were done, they then brought out a large fruit plate for dessert! It was incredible! We barely could understand what we were eating, but it all was delicious. Unfortunately, we took that as a series of photos versus videos. By the time we had mezze for lunch, we felt like old pros! Hi Christine, We do not ever rent cars outside of the US. Cyprus is one of those places that people do like to rent cars, but we did just fine without one. One of our things to do that we did not get to was the walled city of Nicosia, which is split by the Green Line, so if you have an opportunity to go there, I would suggest it. Kevin had taken a spill off a curb while looking at directions and had some very painful bruised his ribs, which put a damper on the last few things we were there. Really enjoyed your video. I'm considering staying for a month in December, but because it's the off-season, I'm wondering if a lot of restaurants will be closed. I know you were there in March-April?
Hi Keith, I just checked in with our Airbnb host and she mentioned that there may be "a few closures, but usually most bars and restaurants close after the first week of January." She mentioned that she was there "during New Year's Eve and found a good time, with restaurants, bars, supermarkets and open beaches. It was quite hot and there was the magic of Christmas decorations." [Her home base is in Italy for most of the year.] I hope this helps. We hope you are able to visit and have an awesome time! @lizrigby-jones3700 Hi Liz, Cyprus was a fun stop for us. Are there areas you'd recommend for our next visit? We're hard pressed to figure out where can beat the part of Paphos where we stayed. -Judy
Very well done ! I feel that your videos have the right mix -- places of interest, history, weather, transport, food, prices …. Just wondering whether did you find 1 month to be too long to stay here? I feel that this may be a problem of slow travel - in a small place in off season, it may start to get a bit boring and perhaps even lonely ? But both of you were probably busy also doing your video and writing your blog during that 1 month too :)
Thank you so much for watching! Do you find it surprising that we could have stayed another week or so?! Our time in Egypt was pretty hectic with so many tours and experiences, so when we got to Cyprus, we had a ton of UA-cam stuff to take care of, including updating our website and a lot of editing and blogging! We loved our morning cappuccinos down at the harbor, and that was really special. But we would have liked to go back to Old Town Paphos, we had a plan to visit Nicosia and would have also liked to see Hilarion Castle. And as it was warming up, possibly spending some time on the actual beaches might also have been nice, too. But our challenge right now is that we have Airbnbs booked up through mid November, so we don't have a lot of flexibility to change our plans-it's sometimes possible with places that give us more time to adjust plans, but we also have trains and planes, which are expensive to change. You have no idea how much it helps us to know whether we are getting the "mix" right on our videos, so thank you so much for your feedback. We're always very happy to answer any of your questions! -Judy
Awesome, William! We hope you have a great time. We loved Cyprus, and Paphos was beautiful. The weather should be warming up soon! Absolutely! Here is a link to the restaurant, which opens for dinner: Demokritos (demokritostavern.com). It's a little on the pricey side, but there is truly so much food, and the atmosphere is top notch, especially when there is live music. Don't be offput if it isn't crowded when you arrive. We were shocked when we saw that nearly every table was reserved, even though we were literally the first or second people to arrive! Thank you for watching! -Judy
Hi Dawn, It depends on what you want to do and when you will be there during the month. November's high is 72° and the low is 54° with 5 days of rainfall. If you were to head there for say Thanksgiving at the end of the month, the temperatures would be even lower (lows closer to 49° and a high of 65°). Our weather was along those lines, especially during the first half of our time there. There are things to do, but beach activities would not be in the cards (they weren't for us, either). Daytime temperatures aren't bad, so you can visit Old Town and all the archeological sites. You should be able to sit like we did outside near the promenade as well. There are a lot of interesting, non-beach activities. Here's a link to our other video with a few tours we took that you might enjoy. -Judy Our day trips in Cyprus: ua-cam.com/video/8g8jyY06GtM/v-deo.html

Hi Margit, we are so honored that you have added us to your personal UA-cam playlist of Cyprus. We really enjoyed our time in Cyprus. If you have it on your list of places to visit, we highly recommend it! -Judy
You are wrong. Kato Paphos is Old Paphos, where it was originally settled. Neo (New) Paphos is what you are wrongly referring to as ‘Old Paphos’. I been staying there since 1979, so I think I know which is which. You should drink Cyprus Coffee, which if you went to the Turkish side, they just call ’Coffee’. It’s not pronounced ‘Paff ose’ It is ‘Paff oss’ and a Meze is not ‘metze’, it is ‘mezzay’ That is a Turkish bath, not a Roman Bath in Neo Paphos. October and November are also the best times to go to Paphos to avoid the heat. The sea is till very warm in November.
You are misconstruing what we are saying. Go ahead and do directions from Palaepaphos, Old Town Paphos to Kato, Paphos, and you'll see that Kato is actually the new part of Paphos. We are speaking about OLD TOWN versus NEW TOWN, not the ancient origins of Paphos. Thanks for the clarifications about pronunciations. We did check them, but clearly we need to brush up on our pronunciations. You are correct about that being a Turkish bath, which is different than the Roman ruins we saw. We definitely conflated the two. It's good to know that the fall is a great time to visit as well. It's definitely a place that we would like to visit and explore in more detail. -Judy
@@FindingGinaMarie Yes, definitely the Fall is a good time to go to Cyprus. But I can absolutely assure you the Kata Paphos is the Old Paphos and the up the hill is Neo Paphos the most recent bit. When you next go back, Go to Myrra Tavern in Neo Paphos and you will seen a very large photo on the wall of Kato Paphos taken 1979 of the Port and Castle. The only other building there, appart from the antiquities was the Almyra Hotel, which was then called Paphos Beach Hotel. Myrra Tavern owner’s used to have the only restaurant at the Harbour. They have their own farm and vineyard and this is where all the locals go to these days when they go out for something to eat. The food there is unbeatable! Just about all you see at Kato Pahos today has been built since then. Which is what confuses everybody into thinking Kato Paphos is the new Paphos. It is the other way round. So I know what you are saying and it seems logical to think that, but in fact , rather strangely, it is the other way round. The road that now goes past The Tombs of the Kings, ended at the Tombs of the Kings. Many of us still refer to that road as the New road to Coral Bay. It didn’t be even have a hard surface for several years. Anyway, glad you enjoyed ‘both’ Paphos’s. Next time you go, go to the Coral Beach Hotel in November and a whole group of about 20 of us regular repeaters will see you there!
"There's Paphos Cyprus Old Town, also known as Ktima and Kato Paphos, which is where we stayed. The Old Town is located slightly inland from Kato Paphos. The old town is not really a tourist area so you won't find hotels there." Also, "Paphos Archaeological Park (also Kato Pafos Archaeological Park) contains the major part of the important ancient Greek and Roman city and is located in Paphos, southwest Cyprus. The park, still under excavation, is within the Nea Pafos ("New Paphos") section of the coastal city." These are quotes from the internet. This is what we are reading and understanding everywhere, so if we still are being dense, you'll have to point us to a source so we can understand more clearly. We appreciate all your recommendations and will definitely add them to our list because we'd love to visit again. Cyprus remains one of the few remaining countries in Europe that's not Schengen, so it's a great place when we need to be out for 90 days. -Judy
@@FindingGinaMarie You’ve been doing some research, but unfortunately anybody can write any nonsense these days that others will believe. What you refer to as the Old town, which is the ‘up the hill bit’ was the European city of Culture just a few years ago. So is definitely a tourist area. As I say, I have known Paphos very well for 55 years now and I think I know pretty well, which is the real new and old Paphos. Ask any old Cypriot and they’ll tell you the same.
Interesting I bought a house in Paphos in 1984 and in 1986 my wife and son stayed behind and shacked up with a Cypriot cafe owner. So as they say beware of Greeks carrying gifts
Yikes. That does not sound like a lot of fun. We really enjoyed Cyprus (but we didn't make serious friends with any Cypriots beyond our cafe servers who were way too young for either of us! I'd make my way to the airport and get a flight to somewhere better. Cyprus used to be a delight but in recent years it has been so over developed it's worse than Blackpool.
I think it depends what you're looking for. We weren't in the center of the area where all the high rise buildings are. We stayed in an Airbnb ten minutes from the harbor, and it was relaxing and peaceful and exactly what we needed after our hectic time in Egypt. Nicosia and Famagusta and the Troodoo Mountains all are fascinating. We didn't spend any time at the beaches and didn't really see any of these places to be overly touristed. We were there in March/April. Here's our companion video from our month in Cyprus. Thanks for watching. -Judy Tours of Cyprus: ua-cam.com/video/8g8jyY06GtM/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching and for your comment. Actually, Cyprus's connection to Great Britain is more complicated/nuanced. In 1878 it was only a British protectorate, from 1914 to 1925 it operated as a unilaterally annexed military occupation (when the Ottoman Empire entered WW I), and from 1925 to 1960 as a Crown colony. -Judy

She mentioned that she was there "during New Year's Eve and found a good time, with restaurants, bars, supermarkets and open beaches. It was quite hot and there was the magic of Christmas decorations." [Her home base is in Italy for most of the year.] I hope this helps. We hope you are able to visit and have an awesome time! Here's a link to the video of the two tours we took when we visited. They're very different but quite interesting! -Judy

Thank you very much,I am planning to visit Cyprus this September and you helped me fully, cheers 😊
Wonderful! Thanks for watching. We loved Cyprus! -Judy
Looks like a great destination. Haven't been to Cyprus yet. Hmmm!
Hi Claudia! It was a fun and relaxing place to spend time. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you want to mix archeological sites, some very interesting tours, and beach/harbor destination! -Judy
@@FindingGinaMarie sounds like it is right up our alley!
We have a second episode coming out next week that we hope you will find interesting as well! -Judy
@@FindingGinaMarie I'll be watching! Where are you two right now?
We are in the south of France for a month!
Great informative video thankyou.🙂 we are going to Pathos in 3 weeks time, much needed husband & wife getaway. Thanks for the tips.👍
How fun. We hope you have a lovely time. We have a second video from Cyprus you might also want to watch. Here's a link to it: ua-cam.com/video/8g8jyY06GtM/v-deo.html. Also, we'd love to know what you think of Paphos when you return! -Judy
My hubby and I have visited Cyprus many times and plan to hopefully return sometime this year. We love the Cypriot people and the beautiful! Sceneries in different parts of the Island. The pace of life is slower and relaxing. Love it so much. ❤
-Judy
Nice video, I’m flying here in a few days 😎
Awesome, William! We hope you have a great time. We loved Cyprus, and Paphos was beautiful. The weather should be warming up soon! We took a tour of the Troodos Mountains where we made and ate halloumi, did a few wine tastings and other sightseeing and then a separate tour to Famagusta where we crossed the Green Line and saw the ghost town of Varosha. You might find it helpful for your travels if you aren't fully booked yet. -Judy

Enjoyed your video. Thank you. Could you please tell me the name of the place where you had your breakfast?
Sure, it's Alea All Day Lifestyle. If you are visiting, we hope you love it as much as us. We also really loved their Pad Thai for dinner! Thanks so much for watching! (facebook.com/aleapaphos/)

Are there in Paphos those Hop-on hop off Tourist red buses? I am going to paphos next month and this information would help me a lot :)❤
Hi Aleksander, We don't recall seeing hop on/off tours in Paphos, but apparently there is one. Some people have said that they're overpriced, but we can't say whether that's true. Here's a link. You don't have to pay in advance (€15 per person), so you just show up at the appointed time. Here's a link to their website: citysightseeingpafos.com/tour-brochure.html.
You might also want to watch our episode on a few tours we did, including halloumi making/ tour of the Troodos Mountains and a tour of Famagusta and the ghost town there, which is very thought provoking. Here's a link: ua-cam.com/video/8g8jyY06GtM/v-deo.html -Judy
Hi, Just viewed your visit to Paphos would love to try that fabulous 'Mezz' can you tell us the name and where it was please?, thank you.
-Judy
Thank you very much for the very prompt reply, we will check it out when we next visit Paphos@@FindingGinaMarie
@@Terryb-t9x We'd love to hear your thoughts after you visit. We thought it was amazing, but VERY filling! -Judy
Is pathos ok to go to in november?
-Judy

@@FindingGinaMarie many thanks. We are coming late november and not people for laying on the beach but looking forward to exploring :)
@dawnsaunders491 The weather should hopefully be mostly similar to ours. You may need a heavier coat at times, but when the sun is out, it is lovely. We’d love to hear what you think about it when you return if you end up going. -Judy
Incidentally, " Kato Paphos " means " lower Paphos "
You are absolutely correct, Reginos. We didn't specifically say that, but that's correct. But also Kato Paphos is the newer part of Paphos. Thanks for watching! We have another video from our time in Paphos where take a tour including making halloumi and another tour of Famagusta and Varosha. Here's a link if you're interested in watching. -Judy

It’s not pronounced ‘Paff ose’ It is ‘Paff oss’ and a Meze is not ‘metze’, it is ‘mezzay’
That is a Turkish bath, not a Roman Bath in Neo Paphos.
Here's our other video from there if it won't give you more heartburn.

-Judy

Actually Cyprus was bought from Ottoman empire in 1878 by the British
Thanks for watching and for your comment. Actually, Cyprus's connection to Great Britain is more complicated/nuanced. In 1878 it was only a British protectorate, from 1914 to 1925 it operated as a unilaterally annexed military occupation (when the Ottoman Empire entered WW I), and from 1925 to 1960 as a Crown colony. -Judy
