Dr. Indiana Jones journey into the South American jungle with a group of porters to find the Golden Idol of Fertility within the Temple of the Chachapoyan Warriors. Jones avoids various traps, the betrayal of his two guides, Barranca and Satipo, and a giant rolling boulder that chases him out of the temple. Waiting for him outside is his nemesis, French archaeologist René Belloq, and a small army of Hovitos natives.
Raiders of the Lost Ark is a 1981 American action-adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Lawrence Kasdan, based on a story by George Lucas and Philip Kaufman.
It stars Harrison Ford, Karen Allen, Paul Freeman, Ronald Lacey, John Rhys-Davies, and Denholm Elliott. Ford portrays Indiana Jones, a globe-trotting archaeologist vying with Nazi German forces in 1936 to recover the long-lost Ark of the Covenant, a relic said to make an army invincible. Teaming up with his tough former lover Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen), Jones races to stop rival archaeologist Dr. René Belloq (Paul Freeman) from guiding the Nazis to the Ark and its power.
The music was composed and conducted by John Williams, and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra.

Here’s some fun facts about this scene:
-It says “South America, 1936”, but it doesn’t note that the temple is specifically in Peru.
-The full name of the Golden Idol is the “Chachapoyan Fertility Idol”, housed inside the “Temple of the Chachapoyan Warriors”. Both of which were created around 64 BC by the Chachapoyans (who would end up being conquered by the Incas). The Hovitos (the people with the bows and stuff) accompanying Belloq are descendants of the of the Chachapoyas.
-The idol is based on Pachamama, the Goddess of Fertility and Earth.
-Once you look closer at the idol, you’ll see it shows a goddess-like figure giving childbirth in a kneeling position.
-The giant rolling boulder is made of fiberglass, and the sound of it rolling is a Honda Civic driving over gravel (slowed down).
-Those spiders are specifically Mexican red-knee tarantulas; the species is actually relatively tame. Around two dozen of them were on Molina (who played Satipo)! During the first few takes, all of them were completely still, which made them look fake. Once it was discovered all of the tarantulas were male, they decided to add one female, which finally got them to move! Molina also got itchy because of the tarantulas’ irritating hairs (New World tarantulas have “irritating hairs”).
-If you listen, Ford mispronounces Satipo’s name as “Sapito”.
    :)

I hope Molina was paid a pretty penny for having all those spiders on him! That being said, even though I have arachnophobia I did find those spiders to be kinda cute?

Sand is symbolic of imminent disaster. Remember when they opened the ark and pulled out a handful of sand only to let it pour ? Same with Indy letting sand pour from the bag but also he forgot about keeping extra sand in the bag as a offering to the idol. Don't forget Anakin hated sand for a reason.

Raiders of the Lost Ark along with First Blood are both my absolute favorite action films and Raiders of the Lost Ark is my all time favorite Indiana Jones film. Raiders of the Lost Ark had a great opening sequence in Peru, Harrison Ford was awesome as Indiana Jones, and this was the film that saved Steven Spielberg's film directing career after 1941 was a terrible disappointing film. Raiders of the Lost Ark was the pinnacle of LucasFilm for Harrison Ford, George Lucas, and Steven Spielberg, the John Williams music score was brilliant, and Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood was an excellent female character.

Why is a so-called professional wearing a heavy leather coat in a JUNGLE? Hmmm? And using a whip? To tame the natives perhaps?

The part at 2:03 on the original Blu-ray release shows Satipo's eyes bulging out to an unnatural degree, which is strange. I'm glad it doesn't do that on the 4K disc.
