I had a dream of selling everything, buying a C-Dory 22, and taking off on the Great Loop. Essentially living on the loop full-time. In the end, I decided that wasn't practical for a single hand with zero boating experience. Instead, I sold everything and converted an old USPS mail truck into my retirement home on wheels. Now I'm full-time living out west, traveling with the seasons for free on public land. Today I'm sitting out a wind storm in Ajo Arizona and watching loopers on youtube. That Vagabond would be a great loop boat.
It sounds like you have a great life! Do you make YT videos? A UPS truck. Neat. I've seen an old bread truck here on YT ;) the CD22 is a great boat, but FT living? There are far better boats.
@@backwatersandbackroads Well the idea was to have the smallest boat possible for single handling. Also, something that could get up on plane and cover some distance when needed. Also like the Albin 25 which has more room but trawler only. Anyway, it never materialized. My grounded version of full-time cruising suits me much better. Are you interested in the great loop? No videos but a UA-camr did do a tour of my van before I got the exterior painted about a year ago. ua-cam.com/video/1kL-fM0tclY/v-deo.html

It's been a good night. Even though it's -1 right now, I got to watch my Buffalo Bills destroy the Patriots and then watch a video from my favorite youtuber, Back Waters and Back Roads.
I'm a new subscriber and this is the third adventure I've watched. Thoroughly enjoyed watching. Love your sweet beagle. I see this boat is different than the one in the first two I saw. (Shanty) I thought that there were going to be dogs on dog Island, disappointed 😞 didn't see any. Happy to find your channel.❣️
Interesting trip, thanks for taking us along. I like the boat and in the main more suitable to NZ waterways than a houseboat due to extensive length of coastline, inlets and habours.
back in the 60s there was a resort on Dog Island and nothing else just one big hotel we went there several times My dad Loved it... not the same now Big Hotel appears to be Gone.....
@@backwatersandbackroads Are you kidding me, you have never heard the old saying "Living the life of Riley?" I don't know what kind of life Riley had but like Tony said it had to be a good one.

Carrabelle's a nice little place, it seems. Protip: Wait for the next major hurricane to wipe out an area down there and you can often buy up land cheap. This happened in Homestead, FL after Hurricane Andrew. Even in the early 2000s (10 years after the storm), when I lived there, it was dirt cheap...and it is midway between Miami and the Keys. Of course, the demographics down there weren't too good.
@@backwatersandbackroads Cool beans. As I've said before, I should have done more upstate when I was down there. Real estate on the east coast was a nightmare...kinda sorry I ever got involved in it.
Always bring Avon skin so soft and cut it with white vinegar. Keeps off anything that flies plus added bonus of silky skin. Don't let the flies BUG you ever again.🪰❣️🪰

How does it work at that boat ramp, are u able to leave the truck and trailer for a long period or did you have to buy a pass ? That boat will draft nice in rivers.
The Vagabond is very hard to find. They only made 30 of them. Around 10 unaccounted for still. The Nomad is more common. Email me. I'll tell you more buddy
Definitely too big of motor. A 25-30 efi 4 stroke would be perfect. It will move around on a 9.9...but I wouldn't want to be caught in current with just that. I'm looking for a smaller motor

Excellent. I’m periodically reminded that climate is a choice👍
I wouldn't have survived this winter otherwise. I don't have it in me. A few weeks break makes it tolerable

I dug watching the pelicans/birds do straight vertical drops into the ocean to snag fish. They looked like they had dropped dead in mid-air.
Incredible! I saw one catch a rather large something and laboriously fly away ;)

There were a few. My Uncle bought and built in 54-55. I went there many times in 60s, 70s and last 85. The hotel was torn down after storm damage.
