Gigin alone at the bottom of the hill Our protagonist named Bill Sets his sights on an anchor steam pint All he needs is thirteen quarters Congregated in his hat A crow, a scavenger type California redemption provides him with his rent Room and board inside a fifth of comfort As the wind penetrates his bones His mind keeps focused Tidal waves of sound catapulted From his horn wail like lovers The coins don't drop consistent as does the mercury His meter slows realizing a zenith He's reached perfection No one did see him die
Ive heard this song for years and sang the syllables but realizing it was an anchor steam pint in the beginning really made me see what the song was all about
My friends and I would always listen to the last two songs on this album to end our night. Then in the spirit of NOFX, we would plug in another album and start drinking again. If the sun isn't up, the night isn't over.
in one night NOFX he's become one of my favorite bands. i started tonight with war on errorism and then decided to listen to this. i enjoyed this mor than I expected and NOFX will diffinetly be a favorite for a long time
i completely agree. i went all through high school jamming to this music and never really appreciating it. i came here on a quest to find something from my younger years that i didn't find repulsive (i used to listen to element eighty...) and was pleasantly surprised. this is one of my favorite nofx songs of all time and it remains to this day.
I turned 50 this year, and I finally got my dream home after years of homelessness and drugs. Now I smell better, but I'm fortunate to have had nofx to help me with the rough spots. But I'm 50 going on 15 in my heart. I still ride a BMX bike and jam out loudly and fastly with music I can feel.... Hell yeah to all punks, junkies, misfits and losers. Don't ever conform to anything but your heart....
It seems like at the end there sound be another chord, like to finish the song. But instead it cuts dead sorta, and on the album there is this silence. It's so eerie. It feels like Bill died right in the middle of his song.
Never really liked nofx when I was younger. For whatever reason I started giving them another listen this week after 20-25 years and holy shit... Fat Mikes actually a pretty damn good song writer.
He has a unique way of stringing a single sentence of lyrics through several measures of music. At this point in their careers he feel It’s safe to call them one of the best punk bands ever.

I don't want to read the comments. I remember when I was 17 years old in the end of the 90th and I got the CD from a friend. I have so much tears today. I never understood all the lyrics untill today because I am from Germany and I never learned perfect English. But I have so much tears when I remember the times I heard this song.
Buying mini bottles of absolute shit vodka that tastes like fucking hairspray with quarters tonight reminded me of this nofx song. All he needs is thirteen quarters... congregated in his hat...
damn you don t want to be on a beach in montenegro listening to this while the sun go down or do you relly want to ear this and hope you just slide in the sea with nobody noticing?
Cool thing about NOFX is that he is a Revelator and may know it, but most likely does not, which makes the music slightly comedic. Basic at the Alpha level, complete and perfect at the Omega.
AfromanKKK2 Yup shit suucks, did the crust punk thing at a time and place in my life! Lol Love this song, met a lot of people. Made some really good friends along the way. Lost some friends too. suucks! But this song brings back good memories, Of playing music on the street!, and with my friends! Wherever we could find a place to jam and rock the fuck out!!! Also of me ending up a permanent homeless resident one day. Lol. Both the same. Just got to migrate with the weather. and, Move like a gypsy hobo! Train hopping hobo!!! Gutter Punk! As a teenager I thought this song was so tragic. Now it is completely heartbreaking.

theres a hidden track after
That's because of the type of chord. It ended on a tense chord usually resolved to a tonic
