    I'm watching 1-3 videos a day (so I don't overload on info all at once), taking notes and making my own spreadsheets with my personal numbers along the way! I actually get excited to watch everyday! You make the stock market easy and clear to understand, and also fun and not intimidating. Its an incredible skill and you're teaching me a language I never thought I'd speak! Everytime I have a question throughout the day, I think to myself, "No worries, I'll go see what my good friend Adrian has to say, I'll be fine!" 😂😂😂🤙

    As a fresh college graduate, who had very little prior knowledge about the stock market & finance in general, your videos have helped me a lot. Last year was very challenging because I couldn't find a job in my field, which made me think about how important it is to diversify my income sources. I'm just sad that I just found your channel. Hi Adrian, your videos are mostly talking about buying stock, but what about selling?
    For example, when would you recommend we sell stocks included in a TFSA (when they are at their highest peak, or perhaps we should gradually transfer those stocks to safer investments such as bonds or other?). In general, it's hard to find information out there on selling strategies (lots of buying strategies, but at some point, you want to get that cash right?).
    I would also add, about the DIVIDENDS EXPLAINED video: wouldn't you agree that there is a higher risk into using a DRIP instead of cashing out your dividends? By using a DRIP, you are assuming the company will never go away, but also putting a lot of money into it. Just a thought.
    Thanks so much for all the great videos! You have a talent for breaking down complex stuff into simple, awesome job!

    It's important to point out that in order to avoid the foreign withholding tax on US dividends you must buy US-listed US-only (not including international) stocks/ETFs and hold them in an RSP account. Dividends from Canadian listed ETFs holding US stocks still get taxed even in RSP.

    • @CanadianTShirt

    I think we need another in-depth video on dividends: possibly exploring dividend irrelevancy and a case against irrelevancy (stock price doesn't matter only number of shares matter).
    Irrelevancy: When a dividend is paid, the value of your share goes down by the dividend amount. And in a market downturn your stocks will be falling that much further with the payout of dividends; and having it in a DRIP is essentially 1) buying back what you just sold 2) having the dividend stock function as a growth stock. And if you did not cash out your dividends between two lows (@3:35) and instead had your dividends cycling through a DRIP, then you'll also end up with no gain between those times.
    An argument for dividend relevancy would have to be: through DRIP you can buy more shares since the number of shares is what truly matters.
    I like dividend stocks for the convenience of choosing whether I want it to act like a growth stock with the added bonus of buying more shares or use the dividends as income for living or buying other stock especially in a downturn - now that's where dividends in a down market can come in handy.
    Is any of this thought process incorrect, let me know.

      Ideally you want to max out BOTH your TFSA and RRSP but for most people, especially beginners the TFSA is the easier one to start with since it's more flexible and far less complicated. Make sure you check out my RRSP Explained videos (both of them):

    Hello.
    Can you make a video on eligible and non eligible dividends and how dividend tax credit works?

  • @Grognon
    @Grognon 4 роки тому +3

    So for ETFs on the other hand, diviend amount won't ever be the same every quarter however... Right? If it's a "broad index" type ETF it'll be dependant on companies/securities held within the ETF so you can't really ever know what the actual amount you will be getting monthly or quarterly?

    • @CanadianTShirt
      @CanadianTShirt  4 роки тому +4

      That's correct. For most ETFs, the distribution (basically a dividend) amount depends on the performance of the dividends contained within the fund so they can vary quarter to quarter but even so, they are usually fairly consistent since it's unlikely for all of the stocks to change their dividend in such a short time frame. Of course some ETFs only track a very small number of stocks, so these would definitely be more susceptible to fluctuating dividends. There are also some dividends which do enforce a consistent dividend throughout the year and then at the end of the year, they either increase or decrease the final dividend to make up for the difference. Excellent question! =)

    Great videos! Just found your channel and subscribed immediately.
    As a very new investor I never really considered the importance of earning dividends, particularly when you can just automate the process to purchase more shares.
    Question (hopefully not too basic): for new investors with a decent start sum as well as monthly contributions, would you recommend going with one of the ETF's you mentioned in the video on June 6th because of dividend earnings, or something along the lines of VGRO? Does it make a big difference when one is starting out?
    I am going to start by using WealthSimple and then possibly move to Questrade once I am a bit better versed in the industry... not sure if that makes a difference in your answer. Sorry to repeat questions across videos, not sure which comment section you check more frequently.
    Thanks again for all the great content! Keep up the great work.

    • @CanadianTShirt

      Thank you for subscribing and welcome to the channel! 😁
      It's hard to tell you the best course of action because it depends on so much: your income, savings, your age, your goals, risk tolerance, time horizon, how much TFSA and RRSP room you have etc... But for most Canadians, I would recommend investing in some of the dividend ETFs I talked about in my past video:
      ua-cam.com/video/hXrN5EVCp8Y/v-deo.html
      These Canadian ETFs give you great passive income through dividends all while giving you great diversification across the Canadian market and if you hold them in your TFSA, you don't pay ANY taxes on the income you make!
      VGRO is a great all-in-one ETF and it's a great option for people who want to be totally hands-off. Just put money into VGRO and it automatically does all the decisions for you. For me personally, I would rather have more control of my money. I want to know how much money goes into bonds, international equities, dividends vs growth, etc so I don't use VGRO. A lot of my investments are contained within VGRO but I buy them in different proportions and I hold those investments in different accounts to maximize my tax efficiency.
      Both WealthSimple and Questrade are GREAT platforms for Canadian investments but do NOT use WealthSimple for US investments because they do not allows you to hold USD and so they charge you a currency conversion fee for every transaction. I talk about this problem in this video:
      ua-cam.com/video/CuVqfQomSPc/v-deo.html
      I know I threw a lot of info at you but I hope it was helpful! =)

    What is your opinion on buying options in Canada? How would one go about buying an option on a broker account like QuestTrade?

    • @CanadianTShirt
      @CanadianTShirt  3 роки тому +1

      I personally don't invest in options and I don't recommend it for beginners. It is far more complicated and risky than buying and holding stocks and ETFs. If you don't know what you are doing, it is MUCH easier to lose money so don't blindly jump into it.
