It's because activision saw how popular battle royal games were getting and essentially told treyarch to scrap the campaign and make a battle royal mode.
The campaign would have been shit. BO3 was the last straw for a lot of Black Ops franchise veterans, especially when you consider the significant downgrade in quality from the multi-outcome story of BO2 and the fast-paced period shooter masterpiece that is BO1. Even if the campaign was great, very few people would have been willing to give it a chance after the last one.

Why would they ruin the great storytelling of the first two black ops games? Especially with a lame plot devise like “ooooo they were brought back from the dead” They should’ve stopped making Black Ops after the 2nd one. The story had multiple endings. You could finish off the story however you wanted. But NO, they had to retcon that to only ONE ‘cannon’ ending in bo2 for the Bo3 storyline to make any sense. And then they make the two most convoluted stories in gaming in Bo3 and 4. Talk about ruining your fucking legacy.

when the next treyarch game is made my guess is there will be a campaign linking all the story together. Because BO3 and BO4 had lots of recorded messages making characters more detailed and figuring out the backstory, but im sure at some point they will have a campaign visually connecting most things Ink talked about

When Bo4 came out there was almost no interest in this campgain, and there still isn't. Almost no one played it much less tried to explain it so thank you for that. I also got 100% on it and tried to piece together the story from the audio logs. In game is says something along the line of "piece together the codes from the intel recordings". I remember Vahn talking about the name they gave for blackout. I have a feeling Blackout could also refer to someone literally blacking out. At the beginning you here the guy go blackout just before you cut to the helicopters flying as well. Maybe blacking out has something to do with one of the characters and it's in their head or all of their consciousness are connected idk found the reznov audio interesting
Zombie characters though- People question how they are in Blackout but since it's not a simulation and both the chaos and aether characters have time travel abilities and the cycle restarts when they die that could explain how they ended up there. Aether: Going back to the "Endless Cycle" thing I just said, I realized that the Primis characters played in Blackout happens after Blood of the Dead, meaning the cycle is broken, so once they die, they die, and the other primis characters from different universes travel to Blackout to possibly die too or survive to keep going on with their mission. Chaos: I don't know much of the new zombie characters, but all I know is that they actually have time travel as well and (Shown in IX's Avenged Sevenfold) has an endless cycle or repeated cycle after they die so if they die in Blackout, their cycle would just repeat until they survive

I'd like to say that the pictures for Ruin, Prophet, and Torque's pictures at the Asylum in Blackout. I think that either this gives more information about the story or there is a quest to fix the pictures and that does something, wether it be on the map or something to reveal more of the story.

Best black ops characters of all time Victor Reznov, Frank Woods, Alex Mason, Harper, Raul Menendez, Hudson. Characters they should add in blackout is Savimbi Bo1 Zombie map Five characters and I think a cool adittion they should add is for example when you complete Manendez mission you should get his younger version when you pop him in the face another example when you do Mason’s mission you should get his bo1 oufit with his white shirt.

I remember Vahn talking about the name they gave for blackout. I have a feeling Blackout could also refer to someone literally blacking out. At the beginning you here the guy go blackout just before you cut to the helicopters flying as well. Maybe blacking out has something to do with one of the characters and it's in their head or all of their consciousness are connected idk found the reznov audio interesting
Zombie characters though-
People question how they are in Blackout but since it's not a simulation and both the chaos and aether characters have time travel abilities and the cycle restarts when they die that could explain how they ended up there.
Aether: Going back to the "Endless Cycle" thing I just said, I realized that the Primis characters played in Blackout happens after Blood of the Dead, meaning the cycle is broken, so once they die, they die, and the other primis characters from different universes travel to Blackout to possibly die too or survive to keep going on with their mission.
Chaos: I don't know much of the new zombie characters, but all I know is that they actually have time travel as well and (Shown in IX's Avenged Sevenfold) has an endless cycle or repeated cycle after they die so if they die in Blackout, their cycle would just repeat until they survive

I'd like to say that the pictures for Ruin, Prophet, and Torque's pictures at the Asylum in Blackout. I think that either this gives more information about the story or there is a quest to fix the pictures and that does something, wether it be on the map or something to reveal more of the story.

Best black ops characters of all time Victor Reznov, Frank Woods, Alex Mason, Harper, Raul Menendez, Hudson. Characters they should add in blackout is Savimbi Bo1 Zombie map Five characters and I think a cool adittion they should add is for example when you complete Manendez mission you should get his younger version when you pop him in the face another example when you do Mason’s mission you should get his bo1 oufit with his white shirt.
