Weirdest part is: - He can't remember how half his own stuff goes - Makes numerous mistakes when playing the parts that he does remember - Still able to paint in music an amazing portrait of frostbitten kingdoms and dark mystical beings
Sounds like you're belittling ABBATH... Blashyrkh does not welcome you no more... His songwriting is truly fascinating, when he isn't drunk you realize the amount of work and passion he has put into Immortal and his new band. As someone who has been playing 1.5 years almost every day I'm still nowhere close to his level of songwriting.
Abbath is so awesome. There are better guitarists, even better frontmen. But he has such a unique style which is unmistakable. Plus he is really a fun guy, with a great sarcastic sense of humour. Two tumbs up for Abbath!
the man has truly come up with some epic and memorable riffs, i love how he sometimes gives the effect that theres another guitar playing. abbath is a legend
wow what an underated guitarist and musician. he was able to take an influence like led zeppelin and make it his own in the world of black metal. I salute this man and hope to do that one day
This man and his music are so involved, so entwined, that one can not only see, but FEEL that he just fucking lloves what he does. Instead of sitting there and just play riff after riff, he sings along. He could be playing behind a curtain, or a wall, it doesn't matter: when Abbath starts singing, those guitar riffs reach a new level. 10/10
Abbath realy is an awesome guitarist!!! his songwriting is truely amazing! a perfect example of technical guitars and still able to maintane pure passion and emotion. he is a great guitarist!!
Abbath is the real deal. Doesn't act all "I'm God" just a regular dude that was inspired by Ace Frehley & Randy Rhoads, my personal 2 favs. also. Cool to see someone that doesn't have an ego bigger than his fame. CHEERS!!
I can't even play guitar. I just think Abbath is great to watch. Doesn't take himself too seriously, but takes his music seriously enough. You'd have to if you can play some of this stuff. One by One always looks fake when people play it because it's such an unorthodox riff.
@Xy_ B00t Wow, you know what's crazy? I didn't remember writing this comment, didn't remember watching this video, didn't get a notification for your reply, and just happened to look up One by One for some inspiration on my new black metal piece, so I'm scrolling down and realise I commented here five years ago and you're just after writing me a reply. As for your question, I've never heard another riff quite like it. Metal guitarists that play more than power chords in their riffs are rare enough, but look at how fast he picks as he jumps back and forth between the high and low pitches in the riff. When other guitarists do anything like this, I almost always see the low parts played on open strings, which means they're probably drop-tuned, which is...fine, I suppose; or they just don't play this fast. At least in my experience.
@@RCD97-hm5mv Well, Abbath has a pretty unique way of playing. It's kind of sloppy, but it still sounds great. When people learn riffs like One by One and play them with perfect technique it just doesn't sound right. That's how I'd explain it. It's like someone playing Led Zeppelin solos too clean. Jimmy Page was sloppy, but he just fucking rocked and so did his solos. It's not all about metronomic precision.
Bb major: Bb, D, Bb. He's tuned to D though, so in standard tuning it's a C major. In tablature it's: 5 2 3 With the 3 on the 5th string, 2 on the 4th and 5 on the 3rd.
These videos are damn useful, I learned how to play Tyrants completely just by watching this vid. Not that it's a hard song, it's just easier to figure out when you see someone playing it. No need to go slower though. Awesome videos. Abbath fucking rules.
it sounds like that because when hes singing its opening the ducker on his lavalier mic, and the amp is also mic'd in the same room with a close mic. so what its doing is your hearing the guitar twice one being delayed from the other. and thats also why it only sounds like that when hes singing and playing at the same time.
Are there special picks that let you glide across the strings that fast? I sometimes find that it's hard to grind the chords quite that fast... My pick hand can MOVE that fast, but it's like... It gets stuck or slowed-down on the strings...
It's strange, but he reminds me a lot of Malmsteen guitar lessons. Ya know, he has absolutely different style of playing, but the sunglasses, black clothes, his voice when he speaks, his gold rings, chains, faces, that he throws and his hilarious behavior with guitar reminds me a lot of Yngwie...
Rap is not bad bro why are you hating on it. Rapping is hard to do let alone making a hit song. If rap is so easy, go and make a hit masterpiece and then come back and tell me the same thing.
@Dunkeldonner I did some extra research and it seems I got you misinformed a little: he's actually using a Dave Mustane signature series Ltd. DV8-R (it's been discontinued, which is why I didn't know about it). It's still nothing really special though. The only modification he made to it is the attachment of Floyd Rose. So yeah, sorry for the confusion. :)
Weirdest part is:
- He can't remember how half his own stuff goes
- Makes numerous mistakes when playing the parts that he does remember
- Still able to paint in music an amazing portrait of frostbitten kingdoms and dark mystical beings
Well he played the bass many years before, so I guess he had to relearn the stuff on the guitar
This shows me that I could do this. This guy....

@@bakerhaltafter 1.5 you are not even close to his level of songwriting
Yeah well... that happens.. I often don't remember my own riffs.... until I do
There was one comment : ''The guy who learned the most from this video was the Abbath himself''
now i know how to wear sunglasses :D
Ahahhahahahahahhah

Jajajajaja jajajajaja

why does he wear sunglasses when the sun never rises?
Rob Gonzales so people don't know how high he is
It's those camera lights . . . too bright! . . . May as well be the blistering sun on a Caribbean beach for him lol
those are moonglasses man
to protect his eyes from the blinding white of the glaciers
Black metal: never show your whole face

такие люди навсегда останутся в истории тяжелого рока и металла, спасибо тебе Olve, твори, играй, живи.
Those vocals are just omg so epic
His picking technique is amazing, love Immortal and Abbath is an incredible talent!
For originally being a bassist this guy has some sick riffs as a guitarist now.
i love that riff in one by one. Excellent riff.
Abbath is immortal. Greatness.
Abbath is a legend... that speed picking is BRUTAL
Abbath is sooo awesome!!! I love how he even does trem picking on some of the chords. Immortal are one of the true kings of black metal!

I would gladly pay money to see Abbath do this live.
I LOVE THAT GUY!!!
genious riffs and sense for humor for 5 stars
Lol what a fucking legend
Abbath is EPIC. Legendary faces. Hail immortal !
at the end he's all "I love that kind of shit... it rules"

Cool guy and a remarkable guitar player. His speed and his picking are unbelievable.
Dear abbath one by one is one of my fsvorites too
Gotta love this guy :)
i love his guitar
i have 2 guitars now
and i'm sure i'll buy one of those in the future
The riff that starts at 3:39 is sooo epic.... amazing :)
O hi Mark
Gotta love Abbath! And Immortal as well for that matter. Can't wait to hear the upcoming album.
I love Immortal !
Ive seen them live 4 times, met al of them.. and they are abselutt awsome, al of em!

Fantastic stuff. Buying 'sond' when I was 17 back in... 2001 I guess. Was the best thing I ever did.
2:52 Amazing Riff
There is only ONE Abbath!!!!
Mucho Musico tan barbaro!!!! Eres una genialidad dentro del caos!!!!
man I can listen to him play all day, Abbath made Immortal even more cool then they already where with these lessons.
the black metal Dimebag
no mames no compares
Marco A Ledezma he said the "black metal" abbath has created memorable black metal riffs just like dimebag did for metal
his face and his grins are so cool man ^^ he plays with the face from a frostbitten one, and moves like one , too^^
what a beauty sound of distortion,,,, i would love to know this setup, guitar, amp :D omg sound so good
Abbath is a legend!
Abbath what a great guitarist. I think his riffs are pure satanic bliss thank you a BOT.
He is truly having fun and being creative, which is what most miss
I always associate these two songs together. If you hear one, the other can't be far behind.
He might not give a shit about his guitar playing or remember how to play his riffs perfectly, but he has fucking amazing rhythm chops.
I know, right! That is what is making me a bigger fan!
Several years later I come back now and then for more "lessons" and never learn anything new.
I can't even play guitar. I just think Abbath is great to watch. Doesn't take himself too seriously, but takes his music seriously enough. You'd have to if you can play some of this stuff. One by One always looks fake when people play it because it's such an unorthodox riff.

Great sense of humor and totally tongue-in-cheek.

love the looks on his face...priceless

Its funny to see his singing expressions without the corpse paint. One of my favorite metal riffs of all time.

I like it when he did his own vocals. Abbath is fucking awsome.
This guy has come up with some classic black metal riffs, can't knock him for that
@Dunkeldonner Ltd. Standard Series V, which is basically a cheaper version of ESP.
1:24 taka taka
My fav moment xdd
lmao Gotta love Abbath. Seems like he would be one of the coolest people to just sit down n have a beer with
True. Surprised how few people know about his side project a year or so ago, Band was called "i" excellent stuff!!

My pleasure, Captain Feeder.
"sorry, I never play it this slow" XD
anybody have any idea what kind of equipment he uses to get that cold icy sound?
The cheapest gear possible will give you that sound!
engl amps and marshall cabs
that's the most metal thing i've heared today.
Damn, I'm gonna have to put Sons of Northern Darkness on again, these riffs are so damn cool.
This guy fucken knows how good music sounds..love it!!
I play bass and i love watching these videos :D Its just fun watching him!
