Hey I love watching your videos, you are doing a fantastic job you should be so proud. I follow Jim aswell he is unreal so patient and takes time to explain everything clearly. All the best on your channel, il be learning from you aswell.
Just purchased my first banjo and so excited to learn!! It's pretty inspiring to watch your progress and will help keep my motivation to stay hard at practicing!
I just started learning to play Banjo last night, watched the first instruction video by Jim Pankey. So I have been practicing what he said to do. My banjo, I just received this past month, belonged to my Dad. He passed away June 4th. So, I am going to figure this thing out and do right by it!! He was never really a banjo player, but his Dad (my Grandpa) was. I remember him, when I was a little kid, sitting on the porch playing his banjo. My Dad was a guitar player, but he did try to learn banjo. Anyways...your videos I have seen have been an inspiration to me to learn, showing me it is possible. So thank you for sharing these videos, even showing your mistakes...
Hell yeah beau. I started playing around 10 months ago and its changed my life. I play clawhammer, though. Starting to go to jams where I try to soak in as much old-timer wisdom as possible. I met a kid the other day after a Billy Strings show that said he'd only been playing a year and proceeded to absolutely murder it. Keep on keeping on my friend.
I learned Banjo the exact same way. It’s amazing what can be learned just from watching UA-cam. Keep it up! After a few years you’ll be just as good as the old timers! Here in a few months look into the old-time scene (more folksy and way less bluegrass). It really changed how I played and saw the banjo.
That’s pretty awesome. Keep the videos coming. That sounded great. Just started playing the banjo. A couple years ago myself something I really enjoy I’m not real good at it but I enjoy doing it.🤠👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hey man, where'd you go? I'd love to hear how you play now! I'm hoping to buy a banjo soon, I can't wait to start learning. Thanks for suggesting Jim pankey!
I'm a beginner to, learning 2 finger picked and clawhammer style, would like to try bluegrass style in a bit. Would love to learn foggy mountain breakdown first ❤
So where you at dude? You didn't give up did you? Would love to hear your 2 year progress. You started out light wild fire, very good after 2 months. You should be up there with Earl by now! LOL!
You are truly an inspiration. I love the dedication. I love the discipline and I can't wait to see your next video. The overview of your progress is a gift to the world because you're showing people that practice and patience triumphs. So... thank you for all your videos. I've watched a bunch and I'm subscribing. You're a great UA-camr. Thank you!
Great job man. If my math is correct I started playing about a month after you. My first song was foggy mountain breakdown. Can't wait to see your future vids
I'm curious to see how you are doing now. If you have still been playing consistently you are probably killing it now. I've been playing for about 3 days now and I hope to be at your level in this vid In a couple months.
Nice video, I really like the honesty, you show the mistakes, I am always making mistakes but enjoying playing so keep up the great work and play on. David
Thank you! I just like to show where I'm at, so if I make mistakes so be it. I've got nothing to prove and I'm just enjoying the journey. Obviously I want to limit mistakes tho so I need to slow down my playing from this point onward
@@asimplekindalife8526 I just relised that your Banjo has guitar tuners instead of the General Banjo tuners that worse than d tuner but better than Guitar tuners
That's awesome man, did the same pankey song progression as you but after foggy mountain I started learning "constant sorrow" last night. And my goal is to learn "there was a time". All pankey lessons but there was a time is little harder to follow because the lessons geared towards people more advanced than myself. Anyways dude sounds good! Where in Canada are you? I'm in Victoria
That's great to hear! My advice for getting started is to focus on just some simple rolls to begin with, but quickly stat learning a few easy songs so that practicing can be fun! Jim Pankey has a 10 part beginner series that does exactly that, and can take 2 - 5 weeks to get through depending on how much time you spend per day practicing. In the end, the most important part of practice is to have fun doing it!
Yeah I'm doing great, I'm in school for the summer so I've been busy getting ready for a while. I am hoping I can find time to post a video every once in a while throughout my study term
What type of banjo do you have and where did you get it? I’m looking for a beginner banjo but don’t know what banjo brand to trust on quality and yours sounds and looks great!
The one I purchased was from Amazon from a brand called "Kmise". It was one that was inexpensive, but looked decent quality, and I can confirm that it makes a great choice for a beginner who is just looking to try out the banjo!
I got a mulucky banjo for about 150 its not bad for a beginner but the high notes wont play without using a finger pick I dont know if it's my set up or the quality of the instrument but it's only dead notes when played with finger but I recommend it for sure if you are interested
Banjos and cats. Way better than banjos and dogs! You're progressing nicely, but yeah, focus more on playing clean versus playing fast. The speed will come on it's own. And I don't think I'd want to get my banjo wet, even slightly! Peace and love.
Playing slow is a lot harder but I know it's what I need to do going forward. And thankfully my banjo isn't a $500 or $1000 one so I can be a little more comfortable playing in the rain
I would like to be posting progress updates by I've been very busy moving and now studying full time. Even If I don't get a video up during my study term, I'll be sure to continue posting as soon as I'm finished exams!
2 years and I'm still waiting on an update! It's going to be insane!
Woohoo!!
Thanks for always having the best lessons on UA-cam! Your lessons never disappoint

This really motivates me to keep going! I’m dying to see a 2 year progress video 🎉
Ahhh brings back memories of when I was a beginner in 1985. i played those exact songs!
Your journey has begun! Toot the horn when you pass me!😁👍

Sorry just found your channel, how have you progressed
5:52 you'll need to get some D tuners on that thing so you don't mess with your tuning.
I have been looking into D tuners recently based on a few other comments too. I think it might be good to pick me some up sooner rather than later

Such a chill personality haha. Now what made you pick that particular banjo? I’m looking for one myself.
Your pretty good a natural

Find a guitar player to strum a few chords, it will help tremendously in speed and timing
Update Please
Aye yo how the banjo be doing now
What kind of banjo and where did u get it? And is this the first instrument u played?
But when that happens I just have to remember😂😂
