I own both a 1560 facsimile GENEVA BIBLE and a leather bound 1599 Tole Lege Press version. I actually prefer them over the KJV that I was raised on. I prefer the NKJV also better than its predecessor. When using my Geneva, I simply ignore the study notes. The text is what I'm after. There is an element of aged wisdom in the text that I like. One thing that can be said about the study notes in the Geneva Bible is that they are pre-Scofield's heretical notes and ideas!

Wow, took the words out of my mouth about the text of Geneva bible. Amazingly simple and clear as it should be after 120 revisions lol

Does the Geneva Bible have all the books in them including the 14 that is not in the KJV. Enoch and the others

@@timmorales1569 I don't think so, but remember the apocrypha was not inspired. Israel went through 400 years of silence as a judgment for rejecting God until our Lord Jesus came at exactly the right time to fulfill OT prophecy and be the Savior of the world!

@@aneforeffort yeah I struggle with all that. I’ve done some me research but not as much as I should. I’ve always been taught to use the kjv but it wasn’t the first Bible. The only reason I want the apocrypha is bc Jesus makes a reference to the book of Enoch in the New Testament. Some of the apocrypha people hat I have read adds to the fact he rest of the Bible. I was just curious and wanting to read all the books.

@@timmorales1569 I have struggled as well, whatever you or I do may we never boast in anything but God's mercy in Christ! All other ground is sinking sand....

Ephesians 6:12 is the reason of re-writing a Bible that is not so controversial regarding the evil guverments.

The Hendrickson Geneva 1560 Bible, which is a facsimile copy of the bible, DOES include an Apocrypha. Perhaps not the same exact books as the KJV. I don't know. But I just double-checked, and it is there.

A helpful tool in understanding the Old English of both these bibles is this: the word "you" is always, and without exception, plural. No exceptions! They have other pronouns for the singular.

Great presentation, but i disagree on four points. The first was that the colony of West Jersey had religious freedom before Pennsylvania was created, it was predominantly Quaker and Penn was one of the original proprietors. Secondly there wasn't full religious freedom in Pennsylvania. A German Reformed pastor asked another if there were Catholics in Philadelphia. He didn't know 'cause they met in secret. Also to vote in Pennsylvania you had to swear that you believed in the Trinity. Also Penn's heirs reverted to Anglicanism presumably after Dad went to Heaven. That is why Christ Church (Phila.) has the Royal Governor's pew, William Penn's baptismal font, and initially the gold bishop's miter above the church was the tallest structure in town - a visible reminder to the Quakers as to who was in charge. However, to keep the Quakers happy, the Penns appointed a rabid-Anglican-hating Quaker in charge of the Three Counties to the south. The Anglicans down there howled to the crown and these counties became the Colony of Delaware but still under the Penn family. Thirdly, the United Provinces (of the Netherlands) became the dominant maritime power with the decline of Spain and expanding at the expense of Portugal (after Spain gobbled up Portugal in 1580). Lastly, the KJV did not become dominant until the Stuarts stopped the printing of the Geneva Bible, first by decree ultimately denying paper to printers who refused to heed.

I not highly educated, but the Geneva Bible has issues in just the one chapter I read, John 1:1 - 3, it calls God the word it.

I don’t have my copy nearby but my guess is you have an issue of English usage from nearly 500 yrs ago which has changed. English was very dynamic in that era and frankly the Geneva translators tinkered with the text too much.

You surely do NOT mean "the most important Bible"! You apparently reference the numerous inaccurate tendentious and often silly "translations/versions" into more or less incomprehensble English! What a total waste of time. There is the original GREEK!!

    • @drdennismswanson3533

If you mean the KJV, it certainly was the most important Bible translation at that time, and frankly in history. The British Empire carried it around the world, it went 350 yrs before there was a real challenge (not counting the final revision in 1769). Today it and the NKJV carry about 45% of the total market share. It certainly has some problems and English usage has changed since 1769. And “the original Greek” is a red herring, there’s no extant copy and the NT may not have been entirely written in Greek and the are good reasons to believe it probably wasn’t.
