Very interesting video, caused me to think about things I had not considered before. Looking forward to binge watching all your videos as I strive to become much more knowledgeable in managing and guiding my own 28 acres of pine forest and hardwood forest.
Enjoyed the discussion. My father has 38 acres that he has selectively harvested over the years. He is now in his 80s and will pass it down some day. I've been looking to learn more about how to effectively manage it and the information available is pretty scarce. really enjoying your channel it is exactly what I needed.
I'm a senior software developer. There's this classic joke that says that the ultimate goal of many software devs is to quit their job and go live in a cabin in the woods. It's surreal, or maybe inspiring, to see a software dev actually quit software and do something more physical. You touched on some very specific aspects of culture that people aren't seeing. I'm not sure I have a lot to comment on, but I strongly agree we're seeing a cultural shift away from corporate jobs and towards more dynamic and flexible jobs. Seasonal jobs, and more turnover at most work environments. Maybe it's a reactionary push back against overly corporate and insufferable jobs with no job stability, or maybe it's the natural progression to replace the lack of meaning and find more stability by being flexible in what you do for work. I think it's only my parent's generation with corporate pensions that actually managed to hold down a single job for most of their career. Both my grandpas worked whatever work was available to them at the time, so it might be incredibly natural to return to a seasonal and local job model. The companies that can adapt by offering seasonal and flexible work will end up winning the market, while the companies that expect to stuff interchangeable cogs into cubicles will end up losing.
