very interesting, news report (that was played on UA-cam) where they actually went to Jamaica and talk to the scammer. They are very well set up and they are very wealthy.
They want identity theft to keep going ….. so people will accept the chip in their right hand no more cash no identity theft. It is coming faster than a train.
Sometimes, a scammer will ask, "can you hear me?" Be careful, because most people will answer, "yes." Actually, they have a recording of them selling something and when you say, "yes," you are unwittingly agreeing to buying whatever it is they're selling. ( Or paying some kind of fee).
Not this 80 years young elder. They will get a dirt nap. So I just left the USA. Do not carry a purse. Carry a cheap outside phone, and fake money. I sent all calls to the voice mail. I only return calls that I know.
Somebody called me once and told me my social security number had been compromised. then went on a long spiel telling me how dangerous that was and assuring me that they could fix it. I played along with them for 10 minutes or so. Then, when they said they'd get right on it etc. etc. the FIRST question they asked me was: "What is your social security number?" I said, "You rotten, lying scumbag crook! If you don't know what my S.S. number is --- how do you know it's been compromised?"
Absolutely 💯 I got a call from what I thought was my Credit Card Co. And they claimed since I was a dedicated longtime customer they wanted to give me special credits or it was because of suspicious activities.. However he requested my Credit Card number to verify everything. Then I'm thinking 🤔 😕 ( After giving the 1st (4 )numbers hmmm.. Why would they need my card number if it's my credit card Company 💳 calling me???😨..That's when I hung up on them.. They alllllmost got me..🙄 they are real slick...be very careful and Alert 😏
@@Jenngie6155 good thing you didn't give the last 4.. if you call your credit card, they say is this so and so? you say it is,, and they said is the last 4 and you say it is.. then they say ok, you have this much credit etc. and you say, you lost it and they send you a new one.. only thing it isn't you and you've also told them you just moved this past weekend and here is the new address to send the new card. BAM, they just got a card in your name. and your card may have been blocked. and you may not realize if for weeks till the new bill isn't paid and your getting calls from the credit card company why you still owe them 5,999...9999 someone went shopping for their new home. stay safe. if someone calls you, say i'll call ya right back.. get the number off your credit card and call them.. if you get an email from paypal that your account needs updating.. don't open it, go to paypal or phone them.. same with your bank. same with any other bills.. you call them. don't answer any calls when they call you. even if it is your bank.. at least if you say, i'll call you right back.. your better off safe than sorry. another good thing, those security questions they ask you, lie to them.. when they say, what is your highschool.. you tell them anywhere but where you went.. your mother's maiden name? tell them anything you like.. if someone got ahold of your personal info..they may have that.. but when they ask you to answer them questions, you best have the right answer. if her last name is white and you use her last name is fitzwalter. then fitzwalter best be what you use. there is no secret question police. you just need to have the right answer.
I am 76 years old and I NEVER answer my phone if I don't know the number. They can leave a message! If emails are telling you an account has been suspended, leave the email and go directly to the actual site to check, anything that asks you to pay in gift cards, NO,NO,NO. Also remember that there is essentially NO PRIVACY guaranteed on social networks....that's why they are "social" So many basic, elementary cautions to be aware of!
Same with me...I never answer the phone unless the number on my caller ID is the number of someone I know. I used to often get over 10 calls a day...now it's more like 4 or 5 or less. I've done this for many years now...but some still try to call...most have given up!
I've found that virtually all calls coming through on the land line are scam calls. The voice mail answers all calls. Nowadays, scammers don't bother to leave scam voice mails any longer. Text messages are becoming filled with scam links. Only requested links should be followed. All others are suspect, even if the sender appears legimate.
.....Actually: "The Greatest Generation" were Americans from the Great Depression and World War Two Eras. I was raised by grandparents from that generation.... and as l was growing up many of my elder relatives were still alive . We do realize that our adult children are overburdened with work/life balance. Not wishing to impose guilt on them to handle these types of issues complicating our lives. Often times the parent has not been involved in the technology to provide the clarity to challenge these scammers or the skimming occurring at ATM's. These thieves have become quite savvy in their methods which leaves the trusting debit card holder vulnerable and leaves the seniors responsible for the loss of funds. Seniors are proven to be in positions of choosing between their utilities, life saving med's & foregoing proper food. Heart breaking when many are still here from the depression era where suffering was at it's highest & never experienced by current generations! Ol' Joey is always spewing his lies about being old but experienced in poverty, but that fool wouldn't know even the definition of struggle let alone having lived it🤬 He & all the others with their multiple choices of gourmet ice creams🤬 Those old fools don't do more than lift an eating utensil to their face after thir food is served in front of them....they don't so much as open a car door🤬...disgusting🤢🤮🤑
But you see, you have no way of knowing if THESE ppl are legit. You don't even know if someone is putting this on your phone, that is, this video could be a scam. Not to be paranoid here, but I've been targeted a long time. I've walked into a law office that I've passed while getting groceries, just randomly, and the "lawyer" walked in the back door, greeted me by name while crossing the room and exiting the front door. He had access to the office via a receptionist, who stood laughing her head off. I was never there before, didn't know the ppl, who shouldn't have known my name. They track you so you can move anywhere and it makes no difference. These ppl are "multi-stalkers" and work in large groups ALL OVER THE WORLD. BTW, folks, it is 24/7 and never stops. It is covert and nobody will believe you. And the police laugh about it. Good luck and God bless.
People should always remember...a scanner would not call you if they actually knew all of your key information they would not call you!! The ONLY reason the scammer calls you is to get the information they DO NOT have, such as social security number, savings account numbers, and credit card numbers. If you have caller ID and the caller name does not match your caller ID...a scammer!! One more caveat. If a caller has a thick accent and they say their name is something like John Smith, they are lying about their name and they are most likely calling from India, Pakistan or Nigeria....etc.
Nope, they are now able to mask numbers to look like whatever and whomever they want it to look like in some cases. Kind of scary considering that could be making it look like your bank, the police department, whatever. A good course of action is if someone calls, say, from your bank about a credit card and you didn't expect a call, hang up and call your bank using the number on the back of your card and let them know. Don't respond to or via any phone numbers different from the ones you know are legit.
Be very aware that you can be scammed by what you believe is an upstanding business...like veterinarians. You have adopted a lovely little furry friend that you take to the vet to get checked out and after the exam, and maybe a rabies shot, they charge you $500. They also try to talk you into doing extra tests, involving sending a sample to a lab for a small lump on the belly, and/or having some teeth pulled on an older dog...and the price jumps up to $10,000. The dog doesn't have many years left anyway..it was adopted from the pound at an old age (>10years old...now 14). It may be a hard decision to make but, face it, the dog will soon die anyway of old age. The business I am referring to is a well known veterinarian chain of stores in the SF Bay Area. Some Veterinarians rip people off just as much as scammers do!
I became a grumpy old man who doesn't trust anyone anymore. I was tricked before I became a Senior. It's terrible how many scammers call. It is so that I never answer the phone unless I recognize the number.

@@metalmamasue3680 well, a woman i know who is elderly got scammed.. yes, they had her believing she won some lottery..even though she didn't enter/purchase a contest or a lottery ticket. people tried to tell her, it is a scam.. but she wouldn't believe us and she continued to send them some cards you get at the store, i think a music card or gift card.. well that is a huge sign right there if they ask you to send money, another clue if they want paid in them cards. well the woman got behind in her bills and they turned off her internet, her cable, they ended up repossessed her car, and she went to a church for financial help.. she used that money to send the scammers, she went to another chairity place for money and she sent that.. while she wasn't paying any bills. and then they hacked into her social security check and had that sent elsewhere, so she was months with no social security check.. and her checking account was drained. they send her a check and wanted her to deposit it in her bank.. one good thing the bank saw that she was taking out a lot of money before said check come and they figured it was a phony check.. so they told her it had to wait to be cleared before she could take any cash out.. and the bank traced it.. it was a rubber check. since they had access now to her checking account, they would know if she deposited it and they would have withdrew the money faster than superman and then when the check bounced, she would get in trouble for it. but the bank stopped it before that could happen.. this woman who was in her 70's got evicted. and ended in a flea bag motel, then an agency deemed her unable to care for herself and put her in a place where they care for her and her money. yes, evenually she got her SS back but it took months.. i haven't heard anything from her for some time but this is how far some seniors will go believing they won a huge amount of money.. they will turn their backs on anyone who trys to tell them it is a scam too. it is so sad she spent every nickle she had and then some and it took months of them convincing her she won millions and no one could tell her different. and when her car got taken, she tried to tell everyone she was going to get that back and pay it off.. when anyone suggested that she just put back the money she'd be paying in car payments and get something outright so she wouldn't have a car payment, she'd get angry at that. some people just don't want to hear anything but one side.. sad.
I'm kind of insulted, I'm a senior in my 60s and I see these idiotic scams immediately. I got a call one day from a Detective (name), saying that I did not show up for jury duty and that a warrant was out for my arrest...LOLOLOLOLOL, I hung up laughing.

I toss out all junk mail, even from companies I recognize. I monitor all incoming phone calls and only pick up for someone I know. I send all suspicious E-mails from unrecognized parties into the trash. I pay for almost all purchases with cash and closely inspect my monthly checking account and credit card statements.
Shred your mail remove your address from the envelope and also the return address if you normally use that company or from a family/friend. People go thru trash (its rare but happens) and they steal from mailboxes. Including the post office drop mailboxes.

Seniors are not only a generation with morals, they are a generation that believed strongly in financial planning for retirement. Seniors, as a rule have enough money to make it worth it to scam them. Also, for the most part, seniors are more likely to be homeowners. Most of them had a chance to achieve the "American Dream" The world has changed drastically, the dream for most of us now, is to not be homeless and hungry!

When I first moved here from another state I got a call from someone saying they were from Social Security. They said they were going to send the cops to my house and I was going to be arrested if I didn't verify my S.S. number. I just laughed at them and hung up. @@jaya.0069I’ve started to ask the people what part of the world they are calling from. They usually say that they are from the Philippines or some other country. But often they will hesitate to give that information. I’m simply interested in where they are from and I appreciate knowing that out of curiosity. If they are from somewhere I had been in the military I will tell them and ask them how the weather is or what time it is there. 😊
Just start asking them their real names, what country they’re from, ask if they have a family and how they are doing, and anything else that is not related to their actual job and they will often just hang up. Or they will sometimes tell me! 😊 (those people from other countries will sometimes be given an Americanized name to use on their jobs) 😂

I caught my elderly mother reading off her credit card numbers to someone over the phone. I immediately questioned her, and she got very mad at me, kept saying she knew what she was doing. Well, evidently she did NOT know what she was doing because I found out a few days later she "ordered" $700 worth of magazines! I was able to stop that from happening, but had to eventually, without her knowing, unplug her landline phone while I was gone. The child becomes the parent.
You found a darned good solution--I just wish I'd thought of it. Supposed stock brokers called my mother up with great investment ideas. My oldest nephew and I tried to persuade her not to do this but were not successful. Fortunately, she didn't get scammed.

If you want to adopt a pet for goodness sake go to a rescue shelter and save one from death. It may not be exactly the one you want but it will love you just the same.
Always take the animal on a "trial basis". I've been lied to by shelters three times, where the animal is misrepresented. One dog was very sick, another was described as "great" with other animals cats & dogs, in reality was vicious toward my cats even went after yard statues of small animals, when I walked her, she was from the local pound. I adopted a kitten reported to be in excellent health but is partially blind. I'm not taking him back tho, he's a sweetheart.
@@JayP-kd5rc There was a big documentary about how shelters will misrepresent. I always get rescues too but on trial as I said. Just recently my friend adopted a dog from an "adoptavent" (animals from the pound and shelters) at a major pet store. He adopted a dog, shortly there after found out the dog had a huge cancerous tumor in the dog's stomach, non operable had to put him down. Very tragic as the dog was very sweet, listed as healthy.
I've learned that if you adopt an animal from these places make sure you can afford a complete vet check and/or possible training costs. Very worth it.
Exactly, go and check out your pet, don’t take home a dog that you paid for, and find out your dog is sick !! After you just paid $700.00 for or more. It’s best take the dog to your Vet first ! My vet gave him antibiotics , checked him out and could not promise, he would make it ! After 3 weeks, My precious puppy was now, finally healthy, and he lived for 13 1/2 years.. it was worth it….they wanted me to bring back the dog, to their vet ! No way ! Scams can be so frustrating …

I would notify authorities (see if they can help get information from the store) and talk to the store to see if they have surveillance cameras that may have recorded the person using your card. I know with many regular purchases the cash register or check out isle is noted on the receipt and perhaps there may be a record of this with the Food stamp card if you ask them. Not sure if Walmart does it this way, but may also be a clue for viewing surveillance footage. I would think with all the shoplifting that goes on, Walmart has cameras picking up this stuff.

You should "freeze" your credit with all 3 credit agencies--Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax. (You can do this online, but be sure you keep the contact info, passwords, pin numbers etc. It is hard to unfreeze your accounts otherwise.) Freezing your credit means no one can apply for credit in your name. This stops a lot of fraud. It is sometimes a pain when you actually want to buy something because you have to go online and "unfreeze" your credit. You can often "unfreeze" it for a limited time or only for a specific company. Also freeze the credit for your children. I know a fraud case in which credit cards were opened in the name of a child. This child will have a lot to deal with he turns 18!
I have the conversation with my dad who is 90. The scam he gets caught on is the call saying and telling him his Drs name and getting him to agree because the Dr said he needed the item. They come in the mail & somehow billed his Medicare. I put a security code on his Medicare but they still get through the system
What does Medicare say about this? Do they investigate and find out who placed the charges? Whoever does it to one person, must be doing it to more people. I know when I worked for a certain company, they had health insurance that asked us to report to them if something out of the ordinary was happening or we suspected was (like billing scams).
And how do you propose they do that? it's an utterly foolish suggestion in the first place---you're putting the blame on an agency that has zero control over someone calling from India, or Pakistan, or "Nigeria," when the onus has to be on the customer to use their intelligence to determine whether a call is legitimate or not.
Scam phonecalls and Robocalls are exceedingly rare, here in New Zealand. Clearly our phone companies are not actively helping the phone scammers, but US phone companies are. US Governments both State and Federal get so constipated with party politicking from both sides, that actual law-making for the good of the population, simply doesn't happen.

@R C : You won't regret it, that's what I use my cell phone for is emergencies only. When I take it places it is always powered OFF, plus the battery can be removed, so it can't be tracked everywhere I go. Nothing to hide just don't like the overreaching and harassment! "KEEP ON KEEPIN ON"
Was in the hospital for 2 months, now the bills are coming in. Medical has sure gone up so it would be nice to get a decent increase so I can survive all the medical bills.
I keep getting gmail saying I’ve won things at different stores Kohls and Lowes and Walmart and others saying I won things . I don’t believe any of them. It’s constant in this holiday time. I delete all
I went to ER and paid bill 3 months later. One year later a lawyer sent a letter asking for $700 unpaid hospital bill. I paid it and learned later it was a scam.
Was it a real law firm or was that a scam too (made up law firm)? If a real law firm was used, but it wasn't them, I'd contact them and let them know they were being used in the scam as well. I know this is hindsight, but when something like this comes up, best to contact the hospital or doctor's office and talk to them about it. Many times, an over looked bill ends up in Collections. But if you paid and the doctor's office acknowledges that everything was paid, then further investigating is needed such as asking for copies of the detailed bill, dates, etc. In all honesty, sometimes it is possible for you to get someone else's bill or it was a scam where they lied about it. Are you still able to write to that lawyer and ask for this? Did you pay with a check or credit card? If by check, get a copy of both sides of the check and alert your bank if possible for fraud. Some credit card companies will do an investigation when you pay for a service or product and haven't received it or are double billed or are billed by mistake.
they call me, i say hello, they say they are calling me about my car warranty.. i said which one? they ask what kind i have, i say, well you called me about (my ) warranty, you should know which car.. or i say, i have no car. but i don''t give any info.
One time I told them I didn't have a car, that I rode a horse (like the Amish do) and that really perplexed the guy. Not all people have a car. Some live on a bus line which is convenient or some live in a city and take a taxi (such as in New York). Not all places have room for parking cars, so people take public transportation such as a train.
Hang up, delete and block texts, block emails. Someone tried to call and say my grand child was in trouble, the dip sh**t did not realize I have never had children. My choice....I said good too bad and hung up!
Better yet do not respond unless you know who the caller is. When scammers call...nobody home and that annoying call ..goes straight to VM purgatory. 😂
The best way to not get scammed at home is to NEVER answer your phone. Let all your family and friends know that you'll pick up the phone as soon as you recognize the voice.
Best way is to have caller ID so they can see who's calling. I'm an elderly woman, and I've had caller ID for over two decades. I can't imagine any cell phone not having it in the 21st century. I haven't bothered with a landline since 2012, either, so they can't "get me" that way....and I still wouldn't answer it, but would let it go to VM if I had a landline.
@@jb6712 the problem is somehow these scammers have the caller ID part blocked, all you see is the number. I do not know all the numbers of my friends and some of their phone services block their number. However, I don't answer. If they know me they can leave a message.
Use caller ID and when you don't recognize the number...don't answer! I've done this for many years now. I bought an AT&T caller ID device and subscribed to the AT&T caller ID and I never pick up unless I recognize the calling number! It took years, but the number of calls I get has gone down from over 10 a day to about 3 or 4 a day...sometimes...none a day!
Scammers Don’t leave messages. Nowadays I’ve been getting legit calls, but many work from home and use their own number sometimes the caller Id just shows a number with no name, so really difficult to distinguish the call until you actually speak with them?!🛐😮

Excellent video.. I'm sharing with my American customers. The false caller ID they have used here in Canada, calling and saying they are from RCMP or CRA, many people fall for it and provide private information or worse credit card or banking information.
One nice thing for scammers and thieves is that the police will not pursue them when they scam or outright take your things or cash. They know that they will not be prosecuted.
@R C Amen. When I was robbed the police refused to interview witnesses and then closed the case. Sometime after that my car was taken and destroyed. The police wouldn't even talk to me and seemed like they just wanted me to leave. Thieves know they have nothing to worry about because they have protection.
@R C Sometimes all it takes is a letter to the local news station or newspaper. Many cities try to cover up the amount of crime that goes on so their cities seem safe. My Dad got two newspapers. One locally and one from Chicago. The Chicago newspaper listed many crimes that happened nearby in our state whereas, the local paper did not because they were covering up crimes so people would feel safe I presume or keep the tourism flowing.
I have fallen to scammers many times. Dating online, finding a scooter under $50.00 from a store name that I trust. I took a survey and the prize was new pots and pans for $6.99 to pay for shipping and handling. Then 2wks later I was charged $54.00 from a place that I didn't know about. Then 2wks later they charged me $120.00. I called my bank and they put my debit card up as lost. I got a new card. That lost debit card has been tried at Walmart, Amazon and at 2 other stores. My bank is trying to catch the who that is behind the stolen card number. That was 3 months ago and I have never received the pots and pans.
I have been scammed once and luckily got my money back, cuz I realized it quickly and called my bank. Then I started getting robo calls almost 20 to 30 a day. It drove me crazy. FINALLY, I started answering instead of just shutting it off… I answered like an old lady…. “Oh honey my son takes that care of that” and would drag it on for minutes. They finally would ask my age and I would tell them I was 94. They would just hang up. It took a while but I am retired so have the time and now I get about 3calls a day. Just last week I fell for UPS giveaway and luckily realized it and had to get a new debit card. I figured because UPS delivers to me a lot. I now get a bunch of these offers in my email. Can’t believe I fell for that one.
If anyone looks up scammer protection information online, one of the things it tells viewers is that no government agency will ever call individuals about anything---not the IRS, nor the USPS, nor will any delivery company such as UPS, DHS, FedEx, or any other big name company. No bank will call its customers, either, but will communicate ONLY by mail. They, all of the above agencies, don't communicate via email, either, so one is safest to just delete anything that comes in from anyplace that would only call.
My elderly mom gets so many robocalls where they start with "can you hear me ". Just wondering if you say yes, can they use that as approval for whatever they are selling
I don’t even answer my cell phone if they are not in my contact list. If it’s Important they will leave a message. I no longer have my landline. I never used it.
I am convinced that some people cannot hear foreign accents. A red flag should immediately go up when a person with an Indian accent named “Dave” from Microsoft Tech Support wants to attach to your computer.
Not all computers are hooked to the internet. You don't need the internet to type a letter and print it either. And not everyone has a Microsoft computer or has Microsoft installed. But a lot of people don't know this. I keep getting robo calls for upgrading my cable TV and when someone gets on the line they (someone with an Indian accent) hang up on me despite me telling them I want them to stop calling and that I don't have a working TV (got fried with an electrical surge and I misplaced the remotes) and that I don't subscribe to cable. The calls keeps coming. They use other people's names numbers on the caller ID too.
The best plan for ANYBODY is not to answer the phone unless you know the caller (caller ID). Put a message machine on and do not give your name or number, simply say "WE can't come to the phone right now. Please leave message." If it is someone you know, they know your voice. Tell your friends and family that you will not answer the phone unless you see the caller ID or hear their voice and recognize it. I have done this for 35 years, and it is amazing how few calls I receive on my landline.
i am getting a lot of the medical people keep asking for my birthday and my address. and phone number. i am so tired of them asking.. i worry about someone hacking on the line or it not really being who they say even with caller ID, too often the ID comes up as one of the hospitals.. and i answer it and it isn't it's spam.. so i'm leary to give any info out.. so lately i say, you called me.. you should have that info.
An older lawyer friend told me just say, "I dont solicit to over the phone solicitation period." As for mail dont open it, send it back, post office back charges. Most of All keep your family away from Publishers Clearing House, think about to give away that money weekly or at one time the revenue they generate to make that possible, they prey on elderly, bed ridden, my friend spent Eight Thousands dollars of his SSI money, he was mentaly disabled. I sent back everything he ever purchased demanding a refund, never heard from them again. Im pissed the most at the actors who indorse this group! You very informative, if someone remembers just one your suggestions, you saved them from losing thousands, and there family from stress trying to figure out how to save the mess. Scammers should face the same fate that they cause plus a little payback, we use to have a lot of Ralph Naders, Consumer Protection Agency ??????
You two are wonderful, very knowledge able you Are. Easy to listen to you clearly understandable, God bless you for all your work , for explaining every move, please keep up your great work!!
My Grandmother lived to be 103.When she was in her mid nineties Publishers Clearing House had totally brainwashed her into believing they were her friends and we were her enemies. Pretty pathetic.
I received two texts saying a package I order was being held up by the USPS, but if I just sent 3$ it would be expedited. All I had to do was entered my credit card # and it would be taken care of. Well knowing that most people at Christmas order online, this could be believable. Being leery I called my local post office and was told this was a scam trying to get my credit card number. Always check out these types of things before you act.
I still don't see how 'most people' would fall for this. If you ordered something then you already know exactly how much you paid for shipping and when it will be delivered. Why would you ever need to text your CC# to anyone?
How would they even get your email in the first place to send this type of message? I've gotten them and I know it's fake. Many times the clues are in the misspellings, but every time, I haven't ordered anything to be held up. I shop locally. Remember when the department stores used to ship your purchases home to you or to the person you bought the clothing or gift for? I'd usually get something sent by the store for my birthday from my Grandmother in the olden days when there was no internet or phone scammers.
"THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT" is comprised of ordinary, powerless human beings who would very much like to "DO "SOMETHING"" about scammers. How do YOU, in your seeming "wisdom" (I say sarcastically) propose they do it? What steps can you tell the government to take to put an end to this problem, along with the 10 million or so other issues we all hear about and deal with on a daily basis? So long as man rules man, there will NEVER be any kind of good government! Mankind as a whole is too greedy for its own gain, too much of a "Gimme what's mine, and gimme what's yours, too!" attitude, and far too many humans are too lazy to get out and go to work and to just leave everyone else alone.
The Better Business Education Foundation should clarify that the Better Business Bureau does nothing to help a consumer who has been ill used by a business. The BBB sells itself as an aid to the consumer. In no way does it aid the consumer. Call them with an issue and it will become crystal clear that they are a pseudo consumer help agency.
@R C Yes, I've heard that too. I still report places in the hopes that it does help, but you are basically on your own, especially when it comes to contractors or home repair. Best to select a known company that is established and been around with a good reputation and ask around too.
Never give info to a call or email coming to you. Initiate your own call (using the # that you look up yourself) to validate. Have to say, I’ve had several calls from scammers (?) asking if I can hear them! Thank you for this info! Going to pass it on.
Why even pick up the phone if you do not know who is calling? But I must say, I've heard of a lot of scams but this can you hear me" is a new one. I will pass this on as well.
My first line of protection is, i’f I did not reach out to you first, you have no business calling me’. I made notes in my phone’s calendar of my activities. I’ve deleted no longer interested subscriptions. I check my bank statements daily. I pray.
I received a call on a Sat saying it was the IRS. I knew it was a scam immediately as they don't call. They said I owed money at they were coming to arrest me. I laughed and said come on over! JUST HANG UP!
Also these companies that are using third party contractors to do online applications need to be more cautious for those would-be employees, putting your social security number online is 🚫. If you have to put your number online, then look for another job or call that company you are applying for and express the importance how using a third party that wants your social, is way to dangerous and they have probably lost some very good profitable employees.
It's time to start catching and arresting all these scammers. Make them pay every penny back.
very interesting, news report
(that was played on UA-cam) where they actually went to Jamaica and talk to the scammer. They are very well set up and they are very wealthy.
Authorities say they are too busy to tackle this. Ugh
That won't happen in
America.
They want identity theft to keep going ….. so people will accept the chip in their right hand no more cash no identity theft. It is coming faster than a train.
Good luck with that, when our own Government gets by with scamming it's citizens every day!
Sometimes, a scammer will ask, "can you hear me?" Be careful, because most people will answer, "yes." Actually, they have a recording of them selling something and when you say, "yes," you are unwittingly agreeing to buying whatever it is they're selling. ( Or paying some kind of fee).
When they ask me can you hear me ok? I tell them I hear ya, what do you want?
I guess no one's there to hang up

Somebody called me once and told me my social security number had been compromised. then went on a long spiel telling me how dangerous that was and assuring me that
they could fix it. I played along with them for 10 minutes or so. Then, when they said they'd get right on it etc. etc. the FIRST question they asked me was: "What is your

I got a call from what I thought was my Credit Card Co. And they claimed since I was a dedicated longtime customer they wanted to give me special credits or it was because of suspicious activities..
However he requested my Credit Card number to verify everything.

Why would they need my card number if it's my credit card Company 💳 calling me???😨..That's when I hung up on them..

That is hilarious.

Same here!
That’s the way u should do it I am the same way because 90% of the time it is business calls or scammers

Really good points!! I have so much respect for the Greatest Generation and their integrity, fortitude, willingness to help those in need....what the hell happened to people's character?? I blame many aspects of technology and how it manipulates people mercilessly especially the youth.
One other thing - seniors were raised in a time when a man's word was as good as gold. Unfortunately this is not true anymore.

A year ago I used to always get calls about my car warranty. I don't know how many times I hung up on that kind of call, but it had to be in the hundreds! When I first moved here from another state I got a call from someone saying they were from Social Security. They said they were going to send the cops to my house and I was going to be arrested if I didn't verify my S.S. number. I just laughed at them and hung up. If they are from somewhere I had been in the military I will tell them and ask them how the weather is or what time it is there. 😊

@@zsigzsag So unfair to the poor animals. We have always gotten rescues. They normally make great pets. They have so much love to give.
Then, buy the dog !! If they refuse, then, look for some other pet shop !! Later on, I found out that the pet shop, closed up ! I ended up paying my Vet, my puppy had severe Bronchitis,.
#1. If the number calling you begins with an 8## and/or the caller has an accent from India or Africa, it is VERY likely a scammer

@@diamondringirl ... food stamp cards don't have RIFD chips.

Call the (any) credit bureau and put your credit on hold. If you apply for credit call and lift the hold. It takes seconds.
Thank you for protecting our seniors…
I have the conversation with my dad who is 90. The scam he gets caught on is the call saying and telling him his Drs name and getting him to agree because the Dr said he needed the item. They come in the mail & somehow billed his Medicare. I put a security code on his Medicare but they still get through the system
Is this perhaps an inside job or is the phone rigged or etc?
What does Medicare say about this? Do they investigate and find out who placed the charges? Whoever does it to one person, must be doing it to more people. I know when I worked for a certain company, they had health insurance that asked us to report to them if something out of the ordinary was happening or we suspected was (like billing scams).
just hang up?
Is it time to sue the telephone company for not stopping these scam calls? We are paying for a service.

Don’t underestimate seniors! We’re not all demented. Most of us are extremely savvy, with long, successful careers on our considerable resumes.

Even giving them the Impression you are an Atty or your Rep is an Atty.. might get them to think twice about continuing the conversation!😏
You still have not learned.

I've heard woman say " he had a British accent. " Bullsh@t that was a Nigerian accent!
The IRS already KNOWS your social security number. Anyone who ask for that isn't the real thing.
i am getting a lot of the medical people keep asking for my birthday and my address. and phone number. i am so tired of them asking.. i worry about someone hacking on the line or it not really being who they say even with caller ID, too often the ID comes up as one of the hospitals.. and i answer it and it isn't it's spam.. so i'm leary to give any info out.. so lately i say, you called me.. you should have that info.

This NEEDS TO STOP people DON’T DESERVE TO BE HARASSED LIKE THIS!!! THIS IS SOMETHING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING!!!
That's funny. Most people don't trust the government to protect them.
Yes, but they can't, because most scammers are calling from outside the country, so our government has no jurisdiction.
The Better Business Education Foundation should clarify that the Better Business Bureau does nothing to help a consumer who has been ill used by a business.
