I like the idea of them actually seeing them coming, but VERY slowly, which doesnt mean that they wouldnt be extremely angry, waving their fist at them and pronouncing horrible things about their mothers

Austria had pretty good admirals, if you look at tegethoff for example, who completely dunked on the superior fleet of the italians.

the austrian navy wasn't that bad, it kicked italian asses in 1867 and it achieved its goals while ww1 and won several naval battles against the italian fleet

this kind of thing happen to me when the first time they introduce flag ship. so, as the ottomans, i thought i choose 30 galleys. i thought at least 30 galleys in early game is enough to challenge the venetians.. and in one naval engagement, i have double the numbers and i still lost.. then i realize i just waste time and money just to build 30 transport.. a very big brain moment indeed..

Galleys? I dont even build galleys anymore, since like 2-3 heavies can sink a dozen of em.
Back in the day, though, when galleys could do damage, i would have 40 galley stacks patrolling the inland seas and destroying everything in sight. Naval combat was so broken before lol

@@fridaynuggies4191 Galleys arent useless, though. For the price of one heavy, you can get 5 galleys, and they will cost less than 1 heavy in maintenance (both in ducats and sailor drain).
While heavies can dish out a lot of damage, they can still be easily swarmed by galleys. Thing is, in the early game, having a number of heavies to dominate inland seas is impossible, so have a few heavies surrounded by some galleys. Later on just abandon galleys altogether. Going up against 200+ galleys of the ottoblob will always be a challenge, though, so keep that in mind.

Out of all the PDX games, eu4 is the one I like the least. If i want to play chill and tall, or do some role play shenanigans, i play ck2. If i want warfare, i play HOI4. If i want to run a proper economy and play the 4d chess that is politics and diplomacy, i play Vic2.
But damn eu4 navies are fun asf. Literally the only reason i play eu4.

In HOI4, you lose naval battles because you don't have a PHD and a cyber brain gifted to you by a traveller from the future. In EU4, you lose naval battles because cogs and admirals I think. IDK, I want to do that hyper Chad naval Korea Admiral Yi roleplay game but the naval mechanics are just kind of shit for that. It's not worth learning naval mechanics in EU4, and you should feel ashamed if you know how to reliably build navies.
