With all the scrap wood and scrap paper available, I kind of hate to see them using perfectly good, useful logs for this - Logs that could be cut into dimensional lumber.
I collect them and have about 1,000 someday when I run out of heating oil or wood pellets I’ll burn them for heat. Another good use is insulation on a house.
@@acidset Think I would never burn them since I worked for an environmental company for 23 years here in New England. Many people here worry about forests and logs. It is a common misconception that we destroy forests for paper and lumber for construction. Usually, natural forests are not suitable for such practices, since we need specific trees with enough pulp content or hard straight wood for construction. We cut trees and plant trees at an increased volume each year. No one is worried that we will run out of potatoes if we want more potatoes. We eat more of them and in turn more will be planted. It is the same with trees. When you see deforestation in some countries, forest is not cut for lumber, since it is useless but rather burned to make way for farming. And there is a practice of clearcutting which can be bad for environment but today most regulated countries have knowledge how to do clearcutting to benefit the environment not to harm it. like encouraging specific types of trees or making way for grazing pastures where wildlife can eat. In short modern worry about trees is unfounded and more of a propaganda. If you want to see more forests, go buy more paper.
Don't worry - in Germany there is planned forest management - they would be dumb is they run out of trees .... it's not like in some other countries , where they just cut everything down and that's it
Uerige, one of the many great breweries in my hometown. But be aware that Altbier is pretty bitter compared to other kinds of beer like beverages. Actually it's a beer and not a beer like soda pop like most popular brands.
Kind of wild that they dont make these solely on recycled materials. Its a tossable item after each customer, so why not make an effort to have a smaller impact on the environment with something so simple
It seems to me much of it is recycled, it depends on the amount of paper they use but it's not like they wouldn't recycle even more if that wouldn't compromise quality
If they were made solely out of recycled cardboard, they wouldn't be sturdy enough. They get wet during usage and have to be leak proof. They may not dissolve of deform under the glass when they are wet. That's why they have a wood mix core.
Now I want one of those How It’s Made-style coasters!!
0:55 then we casually toss around hundreds of logs that weigh ~50 pounds each in a big drum
As my son says, "mini mouse pads!"
So he's autistic?

That’s all side branches and cuttings. You’d barely get one 2x4 from one.
I kinda agree with you. We managed to get rid of useless plastic straws. Are coasters that necessary too?
imagine losing sleep over your feelings. Why cut dimensional lumber in the era of 3D printing and they're already 3D printing concrete.
They don't have enough scrap paper and even if they did, they want some higher quality pulp mixed in too.
@@paulinae.9922 Plastic straws are everywhere.
Very nice... Let's see Paul Allen's coaster.
From the black forest?..... they do reforestation right?
I want to hear the log tumbler

One way to explain to your wife why you have to go to the pub

I don't use coasters....thug life
What a shame that trees are used to make pulp rather than recycle paper, or a mix of it with quickly growing plant-matter.
I hope someone is planting some trees in the Black Forest... just scared to see so many trees being cut down

Quit whining.
I thought coasters were made out of scrap wood. It surprised me they take perfectly fine logs and grind them into shreds.
@@Chris-yy7qc i was scared just for that reason. glad someone cleared it up in the comments
oh i was looking for how the sandstone coasters were made..

Alot of work and resources for things that are given out free and get thrown away :(
drink coaster lore
I WANT ONE WITH A RED CROSS ON IT
Cheers🍻
Useless information time. Somebody who collects beer mats (coasters) is called a tegestologist.
I'll get me coat........
Why the sound reminds me to Pikotaro songs :)

So nice to know we’re destroying nature for drinks

I was so impressed when they used the whole logs, really expected them to use recycled cardboard or something like that 😖😖😖
It does seem really wasteful for something so disposable...
It seems to me much of it is recycled, it depends on the amount of paper they use but it's not like they wouldn't recycle even more if that wouldn't compromise quality

The simple stuffs are the most complicated to make...
Too many trees use hemp
hmm no green screen at the end
It’s printed
That's a bootleg channel.
This one's the real deal.
Why not use post-consumer recycled paper instead of cutting down trees?
Because it won't work.
😢
Looks like I coasted my way into these comments
why can't they used scrap wood?
It is scrap wood.
@@julianreverse They cut down the trees especially for this and use perfectly fine logs. This isn't scrap wood.
I need this material, how do I order ?
Idk
Well I haven't had anything to drink for 3 years.
So I assume this is your dried out, mummified corpse typing then, right?
This demonstrates how human massively destroy trees for nothing.

I'm not a bleeding heart tree hugger but this is such a waste of wood. Poor forest.
Sorry to disagree, but they replace the trees that have been consumed.
