- The least hidden "hidden gem" in video game history combines two things that Compile is great at.
Famidaily is my attempt to catalog all of the commercially released Famicom games.
I heard only a bit about this one back in the day, namely that it was very good and kind of like Zelda. But I don't remember ever seeing it at the video store or anyone's house.
I've known about this game for years, but not the original MSX game. Now that must be a hidden gem.
This game is like a retro Neir Automata
Finally, a reason to have an AV Famicom over a Twin! I'll take any small victory.
og famicom mic op
@@nate567987 I'd like to see someone beat Kamen Rider Club without it!
So I decided to test this DMA bug issue since I have several different Famicoms, and, to be honest... I didn't notice any difference.
All of my Famicoms - an original HVC-CPU-05 board, a Famicom AV and the Twin Famicom seem to experience slowdown in the same places :s
Wouldn't be the first time RndStranger got the fun facts wrong to get the videos done faster, but I wonder about that whole technical explanation!
@@BagOfMagicFood The technical explanation, and the fun fact came from the TCRF page on the game. I doubt it was anything to do with rushing, probably just assuming TCRF was a reliable source (they generally are).
I noticed no differences either!
Nicole.express went into detail on this claim a few weeks ago explaining what the deal is and a theory to replicate it if you are interested in experiencing the slow down. In my eyes this explains why nesticle ran the game the way it does because the status bar would always disappear when to many sprites were on the screen. My takeaway from it is that it depends on the build quality of the system.
I think the best way to test the slowdown would be to load up the game put in your password for the crystal area or any area where enemies would multiply and see how many can be displayed and then measure the amount of slowdown that occurs across all those systems. I don't think there would be much of a difference though.
I have the US game and also tested this on the my original US system and AV famicom respectively, but I have not tested it on my early famicom system because the RGB blaster gives me trouble with that system. The N8Pro when I use it to test for diagnostics also says that the original system has the PPU bug present but I think it says that because of the 72-60 pin adapter needs to be modded. I just never had time to mod it.
I did pick up the US version a couple years back! was working my way through it but got sidetracked with other stuff. in one of my friends circles they're all big-time fans of this one, and yeah definitely one of the good ones! I've seen the little blue guy in some MSX games, and I know he has a name I'm just spacing on it at the moment, haha.
When I started to explore NES emulation, one of the first things I did was go to Moby Games and look at their top 50 NES games. Guardian Legend was listed at number 49. So yeah, not a gem that's especially well hidden. 😆 That being said, one thing I did notice was that the reviews it got at the time of release were middling, so it's probably reasonable to assert that people were sleeping on it back when it was originally released. But yes, the cat is well and truly out of the bag as far as this game is concerned and it has been for a very long time now. 😆
