Last time I went to Goodwill I found a shirt from Wal-Mart just like one I had bought. So I knew the price brand new. Goodwill had this used item priced more than brand new from Wal-Mart. Ridiculous, won't ever shop Goodwill again.
I wouldn’t be surprised Goodwill is paying people to make videos like this so they get more resellers and can keep raising prices. Especially when it’s obvious they are up charging on walmart items as if they were brand new.

@SantaClaus_2019 Basically, a thrift store sells stuff cheap, resellers buy it cheap, and resell it for a lotta cash. The thrift store sees the value of the item they sell, and they raise the price, hoping to make a bit more money as well. This means that poorer people can't afford many of these items, despite thrift stores being for the less fortunate.
Good will isn't a thrift store anymore, just another scam company that says one thing and does another. Half their stuff or more is at or above fair market value around here.
I went to good well and they sold me a book self for $40. I went to target becuse i needed a second book shelf. It was about $25. I set it up next to the good well one on to relize its the same shelf.
That's how ridiculous thrift stores are getting with the pricing. And it's people like this that are driving the prices up. Why charge $15 for something, if someone is willing to pay $40, then resell at an even higher price? Our thrift stores even sell donated dollar store items for a higher price than buying them at the dollar store new.
Yup, noticed that too. @@ecycleusdamn you UP in these replies bruh. short answer: inflated prices force thrifts to feel obligated to raise their prices to compete with resellers. It's like how scalpers influence price inflation.
Content creators who post profits from sales of thrift store finds are one of the reasons that prices are sky-rocketing! Thrift-store-find creators are focused on earning income through ads on their videos, not their eBay sales. Their videos are created to fascinate viewers of their profits to keep them coming back to their channel. They are misleading. After watching dozens of shorts, I’m yet to be impressed by a supposed find (many appear to be planted) and their profits especially because I’m aware of the fees, costs, and time spent. This sale was not impressively profitable! It did not make an easy $45 profit. After seller fees, transportation costs, packing materials the profit was around $30 or less if the seller paid for additional promotion. Time spent on this sale - traveling to the store and back, cleaning, photo-taking, listing, communicating, packing, and shipping - might have been up to 1.5 - 2 hours. That means the seller earned $20 (highball estimation) an hour or less. That’s close to fast food wages.

When I was a teenager I wanted nice clothes- I couldn’t afford the nicest things like people around me and it made me feel good to buy nice clothing at a thrift store and not get teased. Even as a adult who can’t always afford nice clothing for an unexpected event like a funeral or wedding or fancy dinner and some of these resellers have literally waited for me to turn around and grab an item from my basket multiple times, it’s fucking wild, I don’t support fast fashion but I also don’t support price gouging. Low income people should also be able to have that happy excited feeling of buying something nice in their price range. Stop supporting these peoples bullshit “hustle” and they’ll be forced to find a productive way to contribute to society
Resellers are not the problem, it’s the thrift stores themselves that see how thrifting is becoming more mainstream so they drive up the pieces on stuff they get for FREE. Most thrift stores throw out more than 50% of what they put out bc there’s just so much, so trust me, the less fortunate can get nice stuff too, they just gotta look for it. Blame the stores looking to cash in, not the resellers, bc there’s PLENTY to go around.
I remember, I used to be able to go to a thrift store and buy a nice pair of shoes for 2 to 4 dollars. Now they are selling shoes for 30!!! I remember being too poor for Payless. If I were still that poor now, I would be suffering. I really feel for poor people now because they no longer have options. This is sad!

Re-sellers are the worst. They are taking away from people in need. Yes high value items are not a necessity but sometimes people who are struggling want something and this is the best way they can treat themselves affordably. Resellers are the worst. I have met some in person who have snatched out of my hands who will try to buy my items out of my cart. They are actually insane. They don’t belong in goodwills or salvation army’s.
i like to think that i have a pretty good idea of what will sell for really expensive on sites like poshmark, as i am typically the kind of person that definitely would have bought these for 80 dollars had i come across them lol
My entire wardrobe (except shoes, socks and underwear) is from thrift shops. My kid’s wardrobe too. I rarely buy from GW anymore because it’s expensive. I go to lesser known stores that sell decent clothes for like $5. If this guy wants to buy and resell stuff, more power to him. I don’t care as long as there’s a thrift shop out there near me that i can afford.
While in my early 20’s I was a single mom. I was so broke. I went to a goodwill to buy my daughter a new jacket for winter. There was barely any kids clothes to choose from and the only Jacket there that would fit her was $50! It was a good brand and all but it literally broke me. I started to tear up in the isle because I felt like a failure who couldn’t even afford a goodwill coat for my kid. I pulled myself together and got the courage to ask the cashier if there was any way to bring the price down but she said she wasn’t “authorized” to do that. I left with no jacket. I’m very grateful to be in a better place now… haven’t been a fan if Goodwills recently.
I’m genuinely sorry to hear that, but there’s plenty of organizations out there that would have been more than happy to give you a coat for free. A simple Facebook post asking for help with kids clothes would overwhelm you with responses. Aside from that, Walmart has kids coat options from like $15-30

Everybody’s on here blaming the resellers. You should blame the thrift stores. They’re the one driving up the prices. Just because people are reselling stuff doesn’t mean they have to up their prices.
I hate Goodwill, when you only give 2% of the whole entire companies, profit back to charity and you have the audacity to charge the amount of money that you do for products you should be damn near shamed of yourself
Poor people can’t even have nice things anymore because of resellers. I had a Calvin Klein coat for $12 and I got so many compliments. It lasted a long time. It also made me feel good to have something nice and not the cheap clothes I normally had to buy that get holes, tears, loose fibers, etc after 2 wears. Also they are ruining the gaming and collecting market. It’s like to get anything nice you have to pay extra for it. Like during the pandemic I couldn’t find a Nintendo switch in store. When I looked online people were selling it for double or triple the price. I could get selling for an extra $100 or so for profit but u shouldn’t be making enough to buy the thing 3 times over.
To anyone claiming resellers are why thrifting has become expensive, this is not correct. For one this has ALWAYS been a thing happening period. Resellers are not new nor is it a boom. thrift stores are not emptied EVER and have an endless supply. They do not need to raise prices bc of this. They do not fall into supply and demand, instead what’s happening here is called PRICE GOUGING and is ILLEGAL and needs reported when seen. Resellers only make them more money so they can’t use that as the excuse either. Don’t let the thrift stores that are doing this to pass the buck and blame resellers. That’s not ok bc it takes the attention away from the actual illegal price gouging. Your local counselor and attorney general needs a report when you see it. Please know the thrift stores KNOW this

I like going to regular stores to check prices to see if the thrift shops are giving me a good deal, and when i get the prices then go to thrift stores, i have noticed that alot of their products are the same when they were new or over priced. Hell new name brand shoes/boots, bags clothes, scarves ect cost $60- $100-$300. A Luis vuton scarf at a salvation army was being sold for $300. Walmart doesn't even have sales anymore even though they have a clearance aisle i noticed they are the same price or a $1-2 off regular price. It's all crazy.

Exactly. I've seen Walmart stuff in Goodwill with their price tag still attached, with a Goodwill tag secured next to it asking for more money 😂
Last time I went to Goodwill I found a shirt from Wal-Mart just like one I had bought. So I knew the price brand new. Goodwill had this used item priced more than brand new from Wal-Mart. Ridiculous, won't ever shop Goodwill again.
Yep
I wouldn’t be surprised Goodwill is paying people to make videos like this so they get more resellers and can keep raising prices. Especially when it’s obvious they are up charging on walmart items as if they were brand new.
My hubby needed a new work bag..went to thrift store 19 bucks for an used dirty bag with a stain..left bc gross...went Burlington got a brand new one for 15...these thrift stores need a reality check and resellers are turd burgers.

I've been thrifting since the 70's. Used to be the place to go for quality used items for reasonable prices. Now most are overrun with resellers and prices have risen significantly. What used to be $1.91/$2.92 are now $7.97/$8.97. Used shoes going for $20 and up.
When I start seeing a lot of young yuppies (gentrifiers) hanging out in the barrio and hood thrift stores, it's an indicator that it's time to start scouting out other locations.
I think the biggest problem is people started posting about it online. Everything has to be posted online according to them.
It's called inflation.

That's the nicest goodwill I've ever seen.
Damn this channel really just summarize American. "Oh this is to help low income people? Haha screw it I'm gonna abuse the system to make myself just a few dollar richer!" the lack of emphaty makes America downfall fun to watch 😃

I would question why Goodwill charges 35 dollars for something they got for free! Goodwill prices are ridiculous! The ceo made over 700k in 2022!
I have the adorable “denim” pair trust they’re a tad heavy yet so CUTE! I want another pair.
Aside from that, Walmart has kids coat options from like $15-30
@@DealingWithDalton right?? I was so surprised she didn’t help me. I even offered to show her my bank account and pay stubs. I did end up getting a coat elsewhere.

I’m going to start thinking twice about dropping off my nice things to the Goodwill store.A lot of people are trying to take advantage of others! Wow!
I have those crocs. I paid $79 from web site. Also , im a nurse i love them . I call them my all terrain crocs. 😂
Please know the thrift stores KNOW this
Lol i thought they where gunna look insane but i literally have those same crocs in black got me gassed for no reason
