One 20 minute video and you’ve answered all my questions, solved some of my weaving problems, and gave me great ideas. And I’ve only skipped through it. Thank you!
Libby this is super helpful! I just purchased a 4 inch Beka box loom for use with card weaving. I hope you also have a video on doing the card weaving with the box loom.
How fun! The actual weaving technique is the same as any other loom, just with a box loom you'll have to deal with twist build up quicker. If you get stuck I'm happy to answer questions!
Suggestion: I use a toilet paper or paper towel roll over the knot which helps to keep the first few rounds at a steady tension, then I use kraft paper for the rest of the layers.
Now that's interesting. That's almost like warping a rigid heddle loom. Now I want one of those! I'm going to attempt to build an inkle loom and this doesn't seem to be too difficult to do either... probably after I watch a few videos on how it's done....
I know it has been a while since you did this video, but is there any chance you might do one on warping up a Oseberg loom? I have one but have no idea how to get started with it.
I can definitely work on that! The short version is pattern management - I tend to pick things that I can reverse to get rid of the twist. If it's only one card in a pattern I'll have that card warp weighted off the back of the loom. I personally don't prefer using swivels or dowels. If I know a pattern is going to be high twist - I swap to a warp weighted set up.
So. I have exactly the same loom - how do you make the bundle before you warp it? I’ve been doing some crazy things with my thread involving a rolling clothing rack 😆
Patience! :) You measure a warp, tie on one end, and tie the band at the other. If I'm not worried about historical accuracy - I actually tie to a stretchy hair tie, and loop that over the loom pegs. Weave, untie, advance, retie. I do a lot more manually managing tension with holding the warp as I beat it. It also helps to put something under the cards if you're going to be away from it for a bit - the band can actually stretch on the loom.
@@EllisifGydasdottir I recently got an oseberg loom..it needs sanding, but once i get that done, i am eager to warp it up. I am sure you are busy but having a video from you on how to handle the warp on an oseberg would really help!

Thanks for this demonstration, very helpful! I’m diy-ing a loom like this and wasn’t sure how to do the warping part, now I know :)
You're welcome! I'm glad its helpful.
Ms Cripps - your videos are brilliant, well explained and slow enough for us to understand
Thank you so much! That means the world to me.

Nice idea! someone recently said they use a toilet paper stand to hold rolls of yarn as well. I love the practical use!

I actually just started putting together a plan for that :). Several people have been asking recently and I'm happy to do it!
I inadvertently managed to get four cards out of sequence. Use a pin!
Shame you didn't cover measuring warp and putting the cards on
Watch the "Speed warp" video for that :).
How do you get the twist out of you r work on a box look and an ankle look very frustrating can you do a video on that

I've used an inkle loom, chair legs, an actual warping board (crazy! Lol), fence posts lol. Any two points that won't move work :)
any advise for a osberg loom
