Do I still get to say I have the High Ground?
That's all I needed to hear.
New Episode 3 is a 10/10, would Hello There again.
The time has come.
“What if the Star Wars Sequels were good? Like, _really_ good?”
“What if I had been a story exec at Disney when JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson presented their ideas for the Sequel Trilogy and said ‘These are the movies we want to make,’ and I said, ‘No, we can make this better, so I’m going to sit down with you two and we’ll work this out,’?”
Abso-frickin'-lutely. I would lose my mind if that video popped up in my feed.
@@georgeofhamilton If he thinks the Prequels are poorly written and the Sequels aren't, it's a double standard.
@@reginaldfromnigeria5206 I agree, but he kind of uses a lot of double standards, among other things, in these videos.
It does actually make sense that anakin never learned about the pregnancy
@@mroildrinker1845 Yes he realised later that Palpatine lied many years earlier when he encountered luke. That's why he planned to overthrow him together with luke.
Yeah but there's a plot hole there. In A New Hope, Obi-Wan gives Anakin's lightsaber to Luke and he tells him:"Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough."
Anakin obviously knew that Padme was pregnant with at least one child, and, before he turned to the dark side and became Darth Vader, he gave his lightsaber (for whatever reason). to Obi-Wan to give to his son when he was born. There should have been a scene in the last prequel movie where, after Padme tells Anakin that she's pregnant. where he either gives his lightsaber to Obi-Wan to give to Luke when he's born, or he says to Obi-Wan:"I'd really like to give this to my son when he's born, when I'm too old to use it." Or maybe even:"if I ever have a son I want to pass this onto him."
Either way, it stays with Obi-Wan, he keeps it with him and gives it to Luke (I would have personally preferred it if Palpatine had given Anakin his new red lightsaber when he became his apprentice)
So Anakin and Padme knew they were going to have at least a son, and they may have named him Luke before he was born, but what he DIDN'T know was that Padme was pregnant with twins. He only finds out in Return of the Jedi when he reaches out into Luke's mind and finds out that he has a sister. In Revenge of the Sith (or as I would have named it, Rise of the Empire) it's revealed to the audience that Anakin and Padme are having a son, but the twist at the end of the movie is that Padme gives birth to a twin sister that Anakin new nothing about, and Obi-Wan decides to hide her from Anakin.
@@kenkerrison8962
We already know Obi-wan lies through his teeth in A New Hope. He's telling Luke what he thinks he needs to hear to get him on board with the rebellion.
Whether or not Anakin explicitly told Obi-wan to give his son his lightsabre is a fairly white lie by comparison. It's not a stretch to imagine that a father would want his possessions passed down to his children.
Danny M
Yes he “technically” did lie, because Anakin didn’t literally become a different person. He was speaking figuratively, but he knew that Luke wouldn’t understand his meaning. He intended to deceive him.
But if you want to take it that way, he would still be speaking in the “spirit” of the truth when he said his father wanted him to have his lightsaber. Even if never explicitly said it, he could safely guess that pre-Vader Anakin would’ve wanted it passed down to his children.
@@kenkerrison8962
A. Why would Anakin plan to die before Obi Wan??
B. Why would he give it to Obi Wan when it is clear he shifted to the dark side and was no longer friends with him lol.
c. Obi Wan took the lightsaber when he choped Anikan down! He would never tell that he took it from him after chopping him down!

"So he force-chokes Maul"
OHH SHIT
That had me taken aback and more emotionally invested than anything in the prequels, damn
+Lamsaturn Hell yeah. That would have been some sweet ass foreshadowing.
The moment before THAT broke my damn heart. That is when Anakin began to die and Vader was born.
Suggestion: Obi-Wan is not yet on the Council either.
Anakin is absolutely the hero of Utapau and is definitely the one responsible for such a decisive victory. And there's an opening on the Council - on another planet, a Jedi Council member was killed in battle. So Anakin and Obi-Wan are summoned to the Council for an "important announcement." Both think this means Anakin is going to finally be named to the Council with this opening, but they're both shocked when they give the position to **OBI-WAN**.
So now in addition to his anger that you've set up in here, this serves as another wedge between the two of them.
Ryan Ammenheuser Obi-Wan is on the council due to his thoughts, and overcoming of his dark ways, not because of his actions on Utapau, or his skills with a saber.
Nah that would make anakin look like a jerk, obiwan woulf deserve the spot over anakin anway. I think the idea of him being on the council but not master was good it just wasnt executed very well
I still come back too rewatch these what ifs after them being out for years, bravo.
My favorite part about this is when Anakin force chokes Darth Maul... it gives awesome foreshadowing without the big reveal
+Gatlyn Anderson In my mind its not a simple force choke. In episode 4 Vader used the force choke to intimidate that general, not because he wanted to kill him. And because of the strength of his emotions, it's a force break neck, or PULVERIZE NECK.
+Coffee Addict I like the idea man, it should be a change from the hopeful theme song of Luke as the fight goes on, then as Darth Maul is forced choked the imperial march Begins along with a lighting change
Despite the fact that it has already been revealed? In Episode 6, I think it's Luke that called Vader "Anakin". So yeah.
+TooTrueLamb watch the video more closely. the whole idea here is to set up the prequels so that they are not only better, but that the whole thing can be watched from episode 1 to episode 6. 3 < 6, so episode three would be watched before episode 6. Episode 6 can't spoil any of the reveals or plot points in episode three because people would watch episode 3 first.
wheelinshirt Um... I don't think you know what i mean. When i say that, I mean we already know that little Anakin becomes Darth Vader. So there's no real big reveal.
"What if Star Wars Episode IV were bad?"
"What if Episode IV were bad? Like, really bad? What if we returned to the same hypothetical universe where I'm a story exec at Fox, and I was erroneously given full responsibility of writing Episode IV.
Everybody, take out your scripts, cross out 'Luke Skywalker', and relabel it 'Jar Jar Binks'..."
I literally just noticed that the jedi aren't wearing robes, but outfits similar to what Luke wore in ROTJ. This enforces Luke being an offical jedi by episode 6. I actually really like this.
Oh man! You totally gotta do "What if the end of Game of Thrones was good?" now.....
He doesn't even actually call attention to it, but one of my favourite things in these are the Jedi uniforms. One of the stupidest things about the prequels was all the Jedi dressing in robes just because Obi-Wan wore them, I mean the man was a goddamn desert hermit. The jedi wearing more combat like uniforms reminiscent of what Luke is wearing in Return of the Jedi is way cooler and makes way more sense.
+Ben Dick I concur. Although I thought they were slightly reminicent of the officer uniforms of the Empire, which kind of shows the link between the shift from the Old Republic to the Empire.
+Ben Dick I have to disagree. Although this technically makes more sense, I don't like the look. The Jedi robes look cooler and make the Jedi look more like ancient sages or wizards. Plus, think about it like this. Sith are supposed to be a perversion of the Jedi, so it only follows then that Sith would have dark robes to oppose the white robes of the Jedi. Even so, not all Jedi wear the robes anyway. Luminara Undulli, Aayla Secura, and Ashoka Tano, to name a few, are all Jedi of the Old Republic who never wore the traditional Jedi robes.
Karl Hiramanek Yeah the robes would work if they were like actually all old wise men types, but in the prequels they always seemed more like space cops, in this ultra futuristic environment where the robes just clashed. Maybe some kind of hybrid, like a more tactical uniform with a cloak over it or something. I don't know, I just hated everybody being dressed exactly like episode 4 Obi-Wan
That may be your opinion, but I like the robes. They did do a hybrid like you mention in the clone wars, but that didn't look good. I like the simplicity of a robe. Star Wars is all about making epic battles behind simple stories. The Jedi Knights, with their sabers are meant to represent something in the middle of a samurai and a ninja. The robes fit this style. The futuristic thing doesn't really fit the Star Wars theme.
Plus, it makes sense if you think about it. Obi-Wan didn't need to change his clothes because everyone on
+Ben Dick Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Luke wear them in return of the Jedi?
OMG..... I demand a reboot with your ideas!
I fucking demand it! Disney, are you listening?!
+Jarod D The original intention for the prequels was to answer questions. This honestly created more questions and left old ones unanswered.
You're both wrong. And bad. There should be a new, stronger word for you two.... like badwrong... or badong. Yes. Joeymon222 and Minigun101 are badong.
Jarod D You have the ingenuity of a child. How bout using argumentative facts to defend why you think we were wrong.
3 things:
I think you could capitalize on your revised role for Grievous by having him ambush and kill Windu in the battle. Windu being overcome by droids is a little disappointing but seeing him get murked by grievous would be sick.
I feel like Anakins turn on Obi-Wan is a bit forced here. His bitterness about being rejected from the council might cause tension, or drive a wedge between them but I can't see Anakin being convinced that Obi-Wan has been working against him all along in this new story. I think Obi-wan would have to do more to personally hurt Anakin, like take Windu's side in the council instead of anakin's, which would portray him to Anakin as being a bit of Windu's lapdog, giving Palpatine material to work with, as well as giving Anakin a concrete and explicit reason to be provoked to violence against him. It could also help for it to be revealed that Obi-Wan used to have the hots for Padme because then Anakin could accuse Obi-Wan of being jealous, and being a hypocrite.
I'm not convinced that a mother would hand over her child just because her husband went nuts. It seems a bit too emotionally detached to say "you're right I've done a poor job at being a good influence in someone's life and I am a high profile individual therefore it would be most logical for you to care for my offspring", it sounds more Vulcan to me. I think it would make more sense if Padme and Obi-Wan were forced down a path that took them somewhere unfit for a child.
12:20 The cantina is full of outlaws in general. I feel like nobody would care.
The people wouldn't care but they would talk, exclaim, maybe a few would run out--the stormtroopers would certainly notice and definitely care.
Eaode They either wouldn't care, or know that if they snitch they get caught too.
But the Stormtroopers did notice... You see them talking to I think the barman, who points them out. When they get there, Ben and Luke are gone, just Chewie and Han left sitting there.
Bounty hunters and people looking for a hefty credit score would DEFINITELY CARE. Dude in how many people in a criminal settings that you’ve been in are chummy with eachother? Everyone’s a credit score.
These videos are the prequel canon in my head.
+Danny Malzahn ? They were saying they like THIS video as the prequel canon, not the movies. You sound like you think they were saying they preferred the movies, so I wanted to clarify.
+Danny Malzahn It doesn't completely suck, cliche and rushed at several points like the marriage between Anakin and Padme, Anakin turning to the dark side etc. I didn't really like the BM version of I and II, but the RotS was great except for scrapping Order 66. And Shmi's death in AotC.
We need a "What If Star Wars Episode 7,8,9 Had Been Planned Out".
Please and thank you.
I think you should have made Beru an active character in the group of heroes as well, another cool female character to add and it also helps with continuity when she says the line in A New Hope, "He has too much of his father in him."
Fun Facts:
• Jackie drew 253 boards for this.
• The project file for this dates back to February 2015, but I have notebooks for Episode III going back to before Episode II was done (one of them noting Anakin force choking Maul and Owen offering to take the child).
• This one's just silly. For Episode I, I'm wearing a shirt that is mostly white, has some grey and subtle green lines. For Episode II, grey is more dominate and there are hints of blue. And for Episode III, the grey is gone and we're dealing only with red, black and white... so, I somehow managed to work in lightsaber colors and the Dark Side crept into my attire...
This re-imagining of the prequels is phenomenal!
But...where do R2 and C-3PO fit into it? I remember you saying in you Ep.1 video that they would come in later but they never did...

+Belated Media I feel like if I watch these enough I'll just forget what actually happened in the prequels. Sigh.
Only halfway through, but I love the point that Windu makes that Anakin will never be a master. It almost puts him into a caste system since he started his training so late that he will never be like the "true" Jedi, who trained since they were young. It paints a more gray picture of the Council. More than just twiddling their thumbs because they're pacifists (like in the movies), they have an edge about them that is fundamentally flawed. It makes us, as the audience, question their very nature rather than just frustrate us because they are so "good".
Owen wanting to live it up on Coruscant is a great character moment. Reminds me of Luke thinking everything will be solved when he's a jedi, and then becoming a hermit. Reality rarely matches up with what you envision.

"Hey I hear you. That's cool. Totally understand." and then proceeds to just do what he does behind the scenes anyway. Just like a true politician, he finds ways to try to keep on people's "good side", while totally still doing whatever the hell he wants, and with only his own goals in mind. I love it.

+Daniel Cossey Still gotta be careful. It's on of the most recognisable leitmotifs in film history.
It'd ruin the twist in Empire because the same theme would play when Vader was on screen, and we know that the boy Owen took in was Vader's son, so... Yeah.
Can you fix game of thrones next? Just the ending, please
I love the small change with Anakin choking Maul, and I also love that you display that anybody can become Darth Vader when in the wrong circumstances. In episode 6 you get a hint that Vader was once a normal guy dealt with the wrong hand. Your version of the prequels stayed very true to that.
The point is that Palpatine is simply using Anakin for his power. Once he gets what he wants, he'll cast him aside like Maul and Dooku.
This is what he tries to do in Return of the Jedi. Palpatine looks at Luke and sees another chance at building the apprentice he was grooming Anakin to be before he was cut down by Obi-Wan.
Palpatine picking any normal guy for his apprentice doesn't make sense.
Obi-Wan did have to elude the Stormtroopers in Mos Eisley, who WERE called in after Obi-Wan's lightsaber incident. A huge part of the Mos Eisley sequence is them hiding from the Stormtroopers and barely escaping in the Falcon. Even if there is no Order 66, by the time of Episode 4 Jedi are clearly enemies to the Empire, just from Obi-Wan's line about how Vader hunted them down. So I don't think Michael's argument of Mos Eisley is a very strong one.
those on tatoine dgaf about the empire unless they're being paid, and if vader hunted the jedi down how did they all die from order 66? unless obiwan meant the younglings in the temple
Not all Jedi died right away when Order 66 originally happened. Some, like Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Kanan, managed to escape. During the 19 year gap between 3 and 4 they continued to hunt down surviving Jedi. Of course, Darth Vader was on the Empire's side at this point. It was explored more in the EU that is no longer canon, but even in the new canon there are a lot of Jedi who survived the initial order 66.

+Big Baby Blue Eyes yea, I got chills watching too! like I was watching an actual movie

+Big Baby Blue Eyes Hells yes! I'd love to see these ideas turned into movies!
This is canon to me now. God damnit George Lucas, you dun fucked it up
Having the Jedi be massively killed in one battle make them feel small and less powerful, in comparison to being betrayed by their comrades. Obi-Wan and Luke already had attention brought to them by the fact that they were carrying the droids, using the lightsaber or not wouldn't affect the fact that they already were a target.
also tatooine isnt a planet of the republic, they tell you this in episode 1, so orser 66 wouldnt be known to many.
In the movies, high-ranking Jedi and even council members are taken out by 2 to 5 troops, how does that not make them feel small and powerless? Political opponents sent on a suicide mission to get rid of them by their enemies has a lot of historical precedences. Just like what happened in that scene with Faramir in LOTR.
Also, droids were not allowed in the bar because the barkeeper forbid them. Do you really think that's comparable to breaking an imperial law carried out on a galactic scale that is punishable by death?
"Small and powerless" would explain why Tarkin dismisses the Jedi as an "ancient religion."
I can agree on most of these points, but I feel that Order 66 is still needed in some form or another. Can we really believe that ALL the Jedi were gunned down on the Battle of Mustafar? All the younglings too? Order 66 was a way for the majority of the Jedi to be wiped out.
Sadly "Order 66" sound really stupid. BTW it could be Darth Vader who hunted all the Jedi down during the next decade.
@@OnyxTiger he could just track them all down one by one, much like Grevious once did
@@Zodroo_Tint It sound more stupid to have Darth Vader alone hunt down every single Jedi himself. Jedi be like hey, let gang up on him we have like 1000+ member
@@hks2512 But wouldn't that be where the inquisitors come in? Like this specialised task force trained specifically to hunt and kill Jedi. It could also just add to the threat and strength of Vader if multiple Jedi try to get him and they all fail. Each. Time. Like, that's how strong Vader is, y'know?
But then Yoda wouldn't know anything about Luke and Vader wouldn't have known that he had a child, and you completely forgot about Leia. I don't agree with that scene where they are all talking about their ambitions. And if not all the Jedi are killed, why would Yoda abandon them all and go into hiding? His job is to keep the balance of the force, yet he just lets the Sith do as they please. There was a lot I did like about your interpretation, but it's not without it's holes.
cjua2803 But the rest of his Jedi would be in danger, as would the rest of the republic. I don't get why he would just dip.
Yea, I'm saying his version is just as bad if not worse than the real one. It's easy to say what should happen in term of tone but it wouldn't even come off that way. There's way too many moments that are similar to what you mentioned in this video that makes it garbage
+John Hurley Because the war is already lost. The only chance they had, was Anikan's children. You don't have to show and explain everything. We can just assume that they activate the beacon from another location, and can also assume that Yoda and Obi Wan maintain come contact in some form.
What If: The Matrix Sequels were good? Like, REALLY good?
Why didn't I think of that? Just like the prequels, there's a good movie before it and there are bits and pieces in there of a great trilogy.

There’s a major problem with trying to keep Anakin being Vader a secret. In a New Hope it’s stated multiple times that Kenobi taught Vader. Given there was no Darth Vader in episode I-III people would easily conclude Anakin is Vader.
Also Obi-Wan specifically said “Vader helped the empire hunt down the Jedi”. Having all the Jedi just die because of a poor battle plan is stupid
Kyle Campbell I think in regards to order 66, perhaps in this version when yoda is talking to Palpatine at the end, it’s made clear to the audience that the rest of the Jedi will be hunted down. So while it’s not directly said, that thread is then wrapped up when they directly say it in episode 4.
I agree that you can’t really consider the Vader as able to be truly kept a secret, but I think this allows as much mystery as possible. Personally, my issue with the ending in this what if is that it feels a bit anticlimactic
Dylan Kahle yeah. I do like the idea of giving Owen a bigger role though
To be fair, in that same conversation Obi-Wan told Luke that Vader betrayed and murdered his father. An argument could be made that this was just another example of Obi-Wan telling the truth "from a certain point of view". Anakin sent the Jedi into a massacre because he was embracing the Dark Side, so he was kinda-sorta-basically Vader at this point.
The point of keeping Vader a secret is if you are watching the movies 1-6 in that order. If you've already watched the original trilogy before this reimagined prequel trilogy, you already know that Anakin is Vader. Keeping Vader and the twins a secret is so that people watching the prequels before the originals can still have the surprise of the Vader reveal in Empire and the twin reveal in Jedi.
I'd add in a scene where clones find the burnt up Anakin on mustafar, and just leave it vague like that
+Jonathan Pinera In fact I think the way Michael envisioned it is pretty great. We don't see it and we don't have to, since we already know what's going to happen to him.
+As he said: Far better way to watch it from 1-6 without spoiling any later movie.
But Obi-Wan says in 'A New Hope' that Vader helped hunt down and kill the Jedi.
So Order 66 (or something like it) fits more.
Also the Cantina goers aren't clones or stormtroopers. They don't know about Order 66, and clearly don't care about a Jedi showing up. It wasn't a call for the whole galaxy to turn on the Jedi, just the troopers.
I'm not trying to start anything. I've loved these videos, and appreciate your hard work, I just genuinely adore REVENGE OF THE SITH.
+Burnettski9292 I'm pretty sure that he's implying that Vader started hunting down the Jedi that remained after this version's battle on Mustafar. It would be a reasonable way of transitioning him further into the dark side. That would also explain why at the time of the original trilogy, the only Jedi that are known are Yoda and Obi-Wan, as anyone else that was a Jedi would have been found and killed in the 19-20 year gap, leaving the only two (known) survivors as members of the old Jedi Council, who represent essentially the best Jedi. (thus they have better skills to evade detection and capture [AKA exile])
+Burnettski9292 yeah but isn't Obi Wan a MASSIVE liar? I just figured within the context of these films, he might have lied about hunting down and killing the Jedi to gain sympathy from Luke, since he says he wants to train him in this version of the film...
+Jade Praerie Yeah great point. Leaving a little to the audience (and expanded universe) would have been wonderful.
+Burnettski9292
Revenge of the Sith SUCKED.
Why the fuck can't you see that?
It is just as bad as the other 2 prequels... no it is worse actually.
In ep IV - as soon as Vader says, "When I left you, I was but the learner, now I am the Master." - it'd be pretty obvious who was under the mask at that point.
Bottom line - Anakin has to put the black suit on. Other than that, this is gold.
Well... it could indecat that darth vader was another student other than Anakin Because I believe Obi-wan did teach other students(I think)
When Vader said that, I believe the implication was that the he, the young jedi who betrayed and murdered Anakin, was also a student of Obi-Wan. Like, "OH THE GUY WHO KILLED LUKE'S DAD WAS BEN'S PUPIL, THAT'S CRAZY!"
The obi wan and anakin fight feels unearned. Why would Anakin attack first?
I think this is best fixed by simply having Obi-Wan respond to "get out of my way" with "I can't do that, Anakin."
A lot of the proposed climax feels very rushed and unearned, which is weird given the slow burn from before.
@@TheLithp This whole hypothetical is really good up until the 10 minute mark in this video. Everything with darth maul and the slower build up, greater character growth, is fantastic, but the proposed ending is completely anti-climatic and unbelievable.
As bad as the prequels were, order 66 is actually one of the coolest and most interesting moments from them, and if I was given the choice between this scenario and the one george gave us, I would still go with george's version just for order 66. It really brings about this ultimate sense of betrayal, and the entire sequence cements Anakin's journey to the dark side, as he willingly becomes a monster, all in a calculated, premeditated manner. Also, Anakin needs to know about Padme's pregnancy, as that gives him a very strong motivation to do these horrible things if its to save her and his child. All the other interactions with the dark side and Palpatine ultimately just serve as devices which bring Anakin close enough to the dark side where his ultimate turn is a straw that broke the camel's back situation rather than an abrupt and strange turn like in the prequels. Maybe he doesn't need to literally slaughter children with his own hand but he needs to be complicit and aware of what's going on.
With as much set up as this scenario puts into giving Anakin an actual reason to want the Jedi order gone, it's bizarre they toss that all away and say "lmao and the jedi just die in an explosion that Anakin literally had nothing to do with." My perfect prequel trilogy would be this scenario up until where anakin force chokes maul (which is an amazing moment), and then the prequel trilogy we got from there on. Make the sidious vs windu and friends battle better chereographed, improve dialogue, remove the flashiness of obi wan vs vader, and end the film with anakin being put into the suit.
Personally, I would keep Order 66, and the non-reaction in the canteena examplifying exactly how much time has past.
Order 66 was stupid on so many levels and made sense on none. Giving the order simultaneously ? stupid. Having some way to say a single phrase to totally mess up a military? stupid. Killing Jedi with storm troopers ? Stupid. Its just so stupid. If the republic army was at least droids instead of clones it may have made a tiny eensy weensy scrap of sense. Would still be overbearingly stupid though.
+Chocolate Icecream Can you explain why it's all stupid instead of just calling it stupid? I think Order 66 was a brilliant idea making the Clone Wars, orchestrated by Palpatine, both an excuse to gain enough emergency power to establish his Galactic Empire and to put the Jedi in the greatest trap ever conceived, spreading them throughout the galaxy and having them outnumbered enough to be slaughtered by the very comrades they have so trusted with their very lives.
So we've got The Force Awakens, Rogue One, Episode VIII, something else, Episode IX, and another something else... I have a feeling that if Disney decided to, they would have a ton of support for scrapping just a little more Star Wars canon, and remaking the prequel trilogy. Like.. seriously, assuming they do a good job with these six, there would probably be a lot more support for remaking the prequels, than there was for decanonizing the EU.
I want to see what they have to say about it. Like, if you pitched them this idea, and these storyboards... What would their response be?
They really shouldn't remake the prequel. While yes the have cheesy lines and what not but they are canon and what George wanted whether you like it or not. I don't like all these hipster nerds that are so obsessed with changing the prequels. I'd like for the old republic to come back into canon as well as make movies set during that time. That would be cool. I like seeing the Jedi/sith in their prime.
+TheOtherGuys2 No, they shouldn't. Ewan McGregor was perfect in them all, and I liked Hayden a lot in Episode III. Besides, I can't see anybody else as the characters besides the ones who played them.
Funny how everyone grumbles about the prequels until you suggest changing them. I personally like them, and I think they had a lot of good parts. Ewan McGregor for one, Liam Neeson, Christopher Lee, and having Ian McDiarmid reprising his role was great. But I mean.. sometimes there's what the director wants, and what the audience wants.
It's no secret that the prequels aren't so beloved, and I think they should redo them. Before it's too late to get Ewan McGregor back would be nice. :P
TheOtherGuys2 i agree with you about the actors. i loved Christopher lee, ewan mcgregor, ian mcdarmid, etc....i actually even liked the prequels for the most part and i loved sith. i never complain about the prequels at all. maybe in 30 years it would be cool to see a remake of all 6 original movies
I would be very interested in what your episodes 7, 8 & 9 would be like - what you would change in terms of character/s, plot & lore? PLEASE do a series of what-ifs on them!
I hope you will make a What If Episode 7-8-9 were good!! I don’t think they were all that bad but I feel like they were not well connected together and I’d love to hear another version of that story from your point of you!
The Skywalker saga should have ended with episode 6, no matter what you do with the sequels, they'd feel redundant. Unless you showed us a side of star wars we haven't seen before like Luke Skywalker's new jedi order fighting evil that is completely non dark side related or a new set of characters on an adventure of their own, giving the jedi a role but not making them the main focus.
@@MrZackavelli no, the prequels were bad but they had a reason to exist as a part of the skywalker saga
One BIG problem that remains is why wouldn't Maul just spill the beans about Palpatine when he was betrayed?!
Maybe he's about to when Anakin force chokes him. Just spit-balling here
same problem remains in the actual film with Dooku. Why didn't he say that Palp's the sith lord?
Holy shit... this was such a good episode... in my heart this is canon...
5 years later, asking you to continue this alternate universe into the sequels!
You should do a “What if the Original Trilogy was good”
i would honestly love to see someone do this… as much as i love the OT, so many things were handled poorly (the sibling reveal being one of them…)
Man, that Obi-Wan/Anakin/Maul "kill him" scene sounded sooooooo good! Especially that bit where Anakin force chokes Maul. Fuck yes! Watching these videos makes me sad you weren't in control of the prequels.
What if the Star Wars Christmas Special were good?
Space Time would collapse on itself and kill everyone, because the laws of physics would no longer make sense.
TheIchKing The Force Awakens can fix that. The future of Star Wars is very bright.
I have one problem, we won't get the perfect ending between Obi-Wan and Maul in rebels
Now he’s gotta do the sequels...
Can there be a kickstarter to develop this into an animated trilogy? Even if the animation wasn't that complex, just add an official script and voice acting. I'd donate to that if Disney would let it happen.
+Oliver Johnson Im an animator and would love to work on this. the storyboards are there
+Oliver Johnson Get Genndy Tartakovsky to do it. Man is a genius when it comes to animated filmmaking.
+Mike Glasswell Hey your stuff is awesome, maybe you should approach belated media. Could be a good project.
Headcannon confirmed. When I do the "Pre-Episode VII Marathon" in my house, this little trilogy will be replacing the ACTUAL prequels we received.
I would LOVE to see this as an actual fan made trilogy!
Lag Grenade
If it's done as a parody (With the titles being something along the lines of "How [Insert Prequel Episode Here] Should Have Gone," and it wasn't being done for profit, it /could/ be done. But who would do THAT much work for no return? *sigh* Dreams and wishes...
+Akiva Daphydd Look at all the fanworks on the internet. 1,000,000+ words long epics, 20-minute long animations, countless songs etc. all for no profit whatsoever. Money isn't a problem as long as there is enough passion.

"Come here son, let me show you something."
"What is it?"
"It's a script. It's been handed down through the generations. My father worked on it, and his father before him. Now it your turn, only your task is far greater; you have to make the thing."
"Is that why you've given me a video camera every Christmas?"
I like the character arcs, but it’s missing the raw shocking elements of all the Jedi being wiped out with the younglings. The Jedi aren’t destroyed in this version like they need to be in A New Hope. This version is bleak, but not in a broad sense. Only from the views of our characters
with this version, if they were all wiped out in that attack on mustafar... did they send the younglings and padawans and teachers too? were they THAT confident they would win?
The views of the main characters matter most. Just because you show a lot of jedi dying doesn't mean you'll get the audience sad, because the audience doesn't know half the characters.
@@justanotherschmuck4149 I'm talking about the movies. They gotta stand on their own. Not everyone is gonna sit down and watch a thousand episodes of an animated series so they can become invested in characters who get killed before having more than three seconds of screentime.
@@MrMoleHole I don't think the main purpose of that was to get the viewers sad. I mean, it definitely wasn't cheerful, but it mostly served three things in the OT:
1: Tarkin's disbelief that Obi-Wan is still alive
2: Why there aren't a ton of Jedi running around
3: Why Obi-Wan seems so burnt-out and depressed
If Order 66 never happened, then the audience would just be confused. I know that the prequels created a few plot holes, but nothing on that big of a scale.
This video is 4 years old and I remember waiting forever for it to come out. Where has time gone!?
I don't know if anyone's ever suggested this, but how about The Matrix sequels?
+troutmixx Just because you don't understand the plot, doesn't mean any of the Matrix sequels are as bad as some people make them to be.
+daurpm Yeah, the plot is great when you understand it. The awful scripts, tedious, overlong fight scenes and terrible characters however, are enough to sink these duds regardless.
If you're intending these movies to be watched in order, I can only think of one problem with this, which is that the whole Yoda twist in Episode 5 would be spoiled in this. Also when Obi-Wan tells Luke that Darth Vader murdered his Father, we would know that wasn't true because we never saw Darth Vader.
It does however establish that Obi-Wan has created a lie about Anakin's "death." So a new viewer would assume that Obi-Wan was continuing to hide the truth that he "killed" Anakin without necessarily realizing that Anakin is Vader.
The Yoda thing is ruined, but there's no way to watch in episode order without the Yoda thing being ruined unless you don't have Yoda show up at all in the prequels.
It was really amazing figuring out that this little green guy was a jedi master for the first time.
also theres no explenation to the emperors horrible disfiguration, and how the republic turned into the empire, things show in georges 3.
the bloodbath He's like 80 years old by Jedi and he's under dark side influence so his face is gonna rot anyways
I like the little Hayden Christensen impression he does when saying Anakin’s dialogue
Why would Padme keep Leia though?
i feel like the anakin's fall and manipulation to the dark side should be more explored, but i loved the idea of force choking darth maul, kicking out anakin of the jedi, the yoda-palpatine scene at the end,and many other things. overall a very enjoyable video, thanks for sharing tha.
You could watch The Clone Wars Animated Series.... shows a lot of his disobedience.
Definitely keep the 'What if' series alive Michael! There's so much you can do with it. Here's some ideas:
- What if video game movies were good? (here you could go into why video game movies suck and submit an idea for your favourite game franchise and how you'd make a good film out of it)
- What if there was a good Fantastic Four movie?
- What if there was an Indiana Jones 5?
- What if there was another good Terminator film after Judgement Day?
Keep up all the excellent work man!
6:29 A FINE ADDITION TO MY COLLECTION
I think the best part of this series is the jedi outfit
I mean, you expect us to belive these people jump around and do extremely sophisticated lightsaber techniques in a god damn bathrobe?
And it also makes Luke's outfit make more sense.
Well, usually they throw the bathrobes off when the duel starts. I imagine the Jedi robes like kimonos - allowing a lot of freedom of movement
It not only makes Luke's outfit in Return of the Jedi make more sense, but also clears up a massive plot hole opened by the prequels. You see, Order 66 has been executed, and almost all the Jedi are dead. So both Obi-Wan AND Yoda, after traveling off to live in their isolated worlds, continue wearing their Jedi robes. I guess it makes sense for Yoda to do so, since Dagobah is (as far as we know) totally unpopulated with intelligent life, but, Obi-Wan? Not at all. Tatooine isn't an isolated planet. There are tons of people living on it. Just because it's outside of Imperial Rule, doesn't mean there isn't someone there who lived through the time of Order 66, saw Obi-Wan and went "Hey, this Old Ben guy is wearing Jedi robes, lives right by the home of the son of Anakin Skywalker, another Jedi, and literally is named Old Ben KENOBI. Maybe I should report this guy to the Empire and get that bounty reward for turning in a Jedi because as established this planet has a severe problem with poverty." It's just one of those stupid plotholes the prequels open up that seems fine on first glance, but when you think about it for a second kinda tears a massive hole in the series. Much like Order 66 as explained in this very video. Regardless, yeah, the Jedi outfit the artist drew was great. I really like it.
Why is it droids that capture palpatine?! You said you wanted Grevious to be badass and that he's pissed, so why not rework the situation into something like this: Padme is still defending palpatine, but just when they're getting overwhelmed by droids, some major Jedi steps in, like Aayla Secura or someone. Then, they apprehensively watch as Grevious arrives and tears through a few clones to get to them. Aayla does well against Grevious for a second, but she gets her ass kicked the second he reveals his four arms. Heck, she could even be the Jedi that gets stabbed by a charred wrist. He would toss Padme aside like she's nothing and grab palpatine. Bam. Situation ten times cooler, plus we get to see Grevious's four arms.
+Blizzic Then where was Grievous when Anakin and Obi-Wan rescue Palpatine? and fight Maul? He can still get major bad ass shots in his attack on the senate and still affect a cunning escape to Mustifar where he later punches holes in people if that is what you think Star Wars really needs. Maybe Grievous was sent to attack the senate by Sidious with two missions: Secure and capture the Chancellor (who is Sidious himself unbeknownst to Grievous), and kill some other influential Senator/Senators about to make some kinda of vote counter to Sidious' plans. This way Grievous can capture Palpatine but has to hand off the return of the prisoner to his underling droids cause he has more unfinished business...
+Blizzic so basically the cartoon version haha. That grievous should have been the one represented period
+futbolluva Exactly lol, he's basically saying why didn't he make him like cartoon Grievous?
Order 66 made perfect sense. Obi Wan was already about to meet Han and the pub guys were clearly backing off.
really loved this series! maybe you could try the matrix 2, or maybe the dark knight rises.
+Daniel Allen OH SHIT YES, PLEASE DO THIS WITH THE MATRIX FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
Honestly I really just can't see a situation in which Yoda doesn't actually confront the Emperor in some way. In the movie we got its an absolute last ditch effort to save everyone that ultimately fails. In this scenario its just "Sooooo...you gonna let me take over?" "Yeah sure why not?" "Soooooo....see you never then?" "Yeah." Yoda's smart and the Emperor wouldn't want to die now that he's achieved all that. He would've outed him as a Sith right there and thus no longer a traitor. Also Order 66. Some form of that still has to come down. Even if this were the last battle and several high ranking Jedi are killed what about the ones retired from the front lines or run the temple? They have to be dealt with and without an official declaration or inciting incident the Jedi Order still remains. Its fractured but it remains and all of those Jedi still kicking around in a place where they can organize is too much for an injured Anakin to deal with alone even over 20 years. A form of Order 66 has to come down. The Jedi are still too strong by the end of this scenario even if some of their best members are killed in that battle. They still have a base, several students, and a point they can rally too. Order 66 broke that by the clones razing the temple and managing to kill all its occupants.
+KazeAizen Exactly. You'd have all the padawans too young to fight back at the Temple, along with a lot of older Jedi. Also the Jedi were never totally concentrated in one place in the galaxy, they were always spread throughout it on various missions.
XBlueM0ndayX Yep. Even in the midst of the Clone Wars. If you don't have a method of dealing with those isolated Jedi they could easily slip away and regroup with others at the temple since again in this version the Jedi aren't traitors or terrorists and the Jedi temple remains untouched. When trying to destroy your enemy like the Sith were you don't leave their base intact.
+KazeAizen Agreed on so many levels. You at least comprehend what a Jedi does; fight with Sith. The Light side and Dark side are at war with each other and I wish Belated Media understood this. They aren't at a sleep over fighting over who gets the bed and who gets the floor.
Shadow Force I've actually argued that the Star Wars movies and more importantly the prequels themselves are kind of almost anti religion in that the Sith orchestrate the whole war simply to wipe out the Jedi. Millions get caught in the cross fire between an ancient dogmatic war no one else has a stake in and in the end the galaxy is left scarred because of the actions of a few. It wasn't Palpatine's ultimate goal to rule the galaxy. His ultimate goal was to eradicate all the Jedi as revenge for what they did to the Sith during the hinted at Sith war. Hence the title "Revenge of the Sith." Revenge is personal. A more appropriate title for this scenario is "Conquest of the Sith."
KazeAizen
Yes and no. Remember, a Sith craves power and ruling the Galaxy and being in control over the Force was what he wanted as well. It was in his greed and vengeance.
Though, yes, I do agree it is a kinda form of "Crusades" of sorts.
But when Palpatine did involve the Separatists he immediately involved everyone in the Republc. but as I think you mean before all that, when it was just Jedi and Sith hunting one another, then yeah people got hurt from that. :P
But again, Sith want power and are afraid of losing it. Getting rid of the Jedi was not enough. Revenge on the Jedi would make it look far too grey, but to involve everyone... just because you want to rule all... that is dark. :P
In that scene where Anakin chokes Darth Mall, I think that he should have pushed Obi-Wan to the ground “AFTER” he used the force to pull Anakin’s lightsaber away, not before. Because that to me was the only moment that felt like it escalated a little to quickly in this version of the movie. But apart from that, this video is great!
i watch these star wars what if's every now and then. and i always tear up a little at owen's speech at the end. you are really good with your voice, adding emotion to it and all
I think Yoda should be a legend in the prequels. Some legendary great jedi master with great wisdom that nobody has seen since a lot of time. It would not spoil the twist with the character in episode V, and also fits him imo
Wojtek Janus problem w tym, że obiwan w epizodzie V wspomina, że yoda był jego mistrzem.
Mógł go odnaleźć w czasie między III a IV. Niekoniecznie musiał siedzieć 24/7 ,czy ilekolwiek doba trwa na tatooine, w tym swoim baraku
I was thinking that. Keeping him mysterious (like Jabba the Hutt used to be) could be a bit tricky, but worthwhile if done right.
Wojtek Janus What if we only see a bit of him, like in these rewrites. But he looks younger and stronger and when the audience sees him again in V, we are blown away by what the stress has done to his body and we understand something like doesn’t yet
Why not but you will have to explain why Obi Wan says this "You will meet Yoda, he is the master Jedi who teached everything to me".
If he is just a legend, how the fuck Obi Wan know where he lives? How he could know that he exists?
It bring too much questions, even if the idea is cool but clearly not coherent with the rest of the films
MAKE IT! MAKE IT! MAKE THEM INTO ANIMATED FILMS!
Get that kickstarter up and we will give the funds.
Oh and if you have the power to. GET THE AVATAR AANG/KORRA ANIMATORS OR AT LEAST DO IT IN THAT HALFWAY BETWEEN CARTOON AND ANIME STYLE!!!
Also you should get Redlettermedia as script editors, as they just as much deserve to be a part of this Fuck the prequels parade as you do.
#BelatedMediaIsCanon #JustDOOOOOITTT
Get Shia Labeouf to voice Anakin! Jk. But yes so much truth in this post. Someone start the campaign.
+Tom Savage OH MY GOD YES... This is a great idea, then they would be cannon, instead of the actual prequels. Although, Ewan McGregor is the only one who can play/mo-cap Obi Wan Kenobi.
Ok I may have gone a bit over the top, but the thought still stands. Lol
This comment is so dense, every single (heavily capitalised) word has so much going on.
I just keep coming back to these videos, they’re my head canon prequels. So well done!
I like how this version retains maul as the antagonist. Much more personal fight for obi-wan. I also like how it paints a picture of an Anakin that’s actually worthy of redemption. He feels more ideologically motIvated here and his turn to the dark side feels more pragmatic. I’ve always had trouble with Anakin’s redemption seeing as he slaughtered so many innocent lives in the PT and even chokes his own wife. However, Obi-Wan explicitly says Vader hunted down the Jedi in ANH and luring the majority of the Jedi into a single conflict to ensure they’re annihilation is frankly way more unrealistic than having them being systematically betrayed from within, not to mention a way less entertaining and less tragic premise. This rewrite also seems to be lacking some of the theatrics that make for Episode III’s best, most operatic moments. This isn’t to say that Episode III isn’t somewhat bloated in the spectacle department, because it is, but this is a Star Wars movie we’re talking about here. The proceedings need to be a bit more fun than what’s offered here. So, for these reasons, this rewrite doesn’t ultimately work for me.
Flawed as it may be, I think Episode III got more right than it got wrong.
Sooooooo this is MY official prequel canon now, just saying! You, sir, have painted a perfect prologue to the Star Wars saga, and I thank you for that! This has been well worth the wait.
And though it may be a bit to close to Star Wars, I'd love to hear What If Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Were Good?
+FreelancerLA I second both counts! A What IF for KotCS would be awesome!
+FreelancerLA Just throwing it out there again, i think we should start a kickstarter to have these made into full feature films as part of the Legends universe so for people who think these are actually better than the prequels (which includes me) this can be more official plus fleshed out.
+Brian P They don't even have to be feature films (although that'd be amazing). I'd be happy with a cartoon or even a graphic novel.
Episode III WAS good. But I liked your alternate story for it. Can you do Return of the Jedi?
+KingLink95 episode 3 was pretty good idk why it gets as much hate as the other two
+Pixy Wing it's nowhere close to being "really bad" nice "ewoks killed stormtroopers movie ruined hur dur" logic there
+SuperMicklovin When did he ever say it was bad because of the ewoks? It wasn't awful but it did have some things that weren't great about it. I mean really? Another death star? How original. They already did one death star arc, they didn't need another one. The Han conflict that left us reeling in Episode 5 was literally resolved in .2 seconds and that was kind of annoying. I was expecting more from that.
+Joseph Antonius Did you just call the deathstar an arc ? It's a fucking space station! And an effective one at that, hell even more effective the second time round, theres literally no reason why the empire would not build another one.
Who cares about Han in Jedi ? It was supposed to be the conclusion to the Skywalker story, having Hans kidnapping drag out would have undermined the films original purpose.
+Pixy Wing Decent english next time slick though I'll decipher: You think Luke not using the force because of plot, which has been in every star wars movie and related media product to date,is a valid criticism to the movie itself.
Now to get on to: 'What if the Sequel Trilogy were good?' series

+Michael Fisher Leia said in Return of the Jedi that she died when Leia was very young.
16:54 “Look at banner, Yoda!”
I love your alternate take on the prequels, but the problem is, we're still gonna know that Vader is Luke's father. There is no way anyone would believe Vader is a new character introduced in EP4, because Obi-Wan tells Luke Vader was his Padawan and got turned to the dark side, killing Luke's father. Anakin used Vader's signature move (the force choking) on Maul, got heavily injured, but didn't die on screen and most importantly no other Padawan of Obi-Wan is mentioned. The only thing that isn't spoiled is Leia's relation to Luke and Vader.
The Prequels should never have told the Anakin story, they should've told the story of a different set of characters during the rise of the Empire.
@@ULYSSES-31 But that's the whole point? to show his fall to the darkside and what he's gone through, The Skywalker Saga is all about Anakin so it makes sense the focus would be on him in 1-3?!
@@skywalkerorder2170
It was originally called The Star Wars Saga, not the Skywalker saga - that came later with the Prequels.
None of us really knew what characters were going to be the leads characters in any Prequels. George Lucas chose to have Anakin as the main character; he could've easily chosen other characters as the leads with Anakin and Kenobi as supporting characters, just like they were in the OT.

You know, you kinda took a misstep on how Anakin turned to the dark side. The thing is, Obi-wan tells Luke, Vader helped the Empire strike down the Jedi, and betrayed, and murdered his father. So how does play into your version?
think deeper... vader did murder anakin metaphorically speaking....can't obi-wan be speaking metaphorically about the same man? Vader and Anakin who are one in the same? god where is the logic with some of these half thought out comments...
Maybe someone clued Obi Wan In and said Anakin was Darth Vader.
I've heard other alternative theories where "I am your father" doesn't happen at all, and Anakin Skywalker was in fact an entirely different former Jedi than Darth Vader. Honestly, I wouldn't mind that.
He did sort of strike down the Jedi with his emotional suggestion that the Jedi take to the front lines. It furthers Obi Wan’s well meaning albeit deceitful way of bending the truth.
What if Alien 3 was good? Like, really good? What if Michael was a story executive at Fox before the Star Wars prequel trilogy and had a chance to work Alien 3's script during its multiple rewrites and said "Hey, woah, slow down, I think this is going in the wrong direction. Let's start over from scratch."
+Cool70sfreak This! And then make Alien 4 (what if), and then Alien Resurrection, and then Aliens Vs Predator 1 & 2.

Now we need a what if episodes 7 8 & 9 was good continuing in this star wars universe please 🙏
This is so good. I can't believe how much effort went into to it and all the pictures. The scene where Anakin kills Maul is amazing.

@@althealligator1467 Better though, even a scene that left a hole in my heart and a sinking feeling in my gut.

how in your universe does Palpy actually becomes the emperor? how in your universe does the empire form? how in your universe do the clones become the stormtroopers?
+gert Van den Berghe At the end of the movie, when he gives a picture of Palpy celebrating. And we don't really need a clones/stormtroopers explantation.
Ever thought of doing a what-if series for the sequel trilogy
I don't know if you meant it but the "What do we do?" - "Simple, die." seems a lot like The Last Starfighter with its villain's death of "Now, we die"
I would have had Mace Die in a duel with grievous. the bad-ass you've built up in your prequals and the jedi order's foremost lightsaber master, just makes sence.
If any of the battles need to have massive spectacle, it's that one. It would be so great.
+Will Sullivan Especially since it was Mace Windu that crushed his chest in the Clone Wars show. Could've been a great battle.
Or you could have Yoda and Windu confront palpatine and both take him on, but windu, being exhausted from the previous battle (and possibly wounded) is killed, yoda is forced into exile, then the rest like the guy planned it
+Will Sullivan I concur :) That would've given more significance to both of them, especially with Grievous' hatred for Mace Windu breaking his chest. This could've been a minor story-arc about Mace Windu against Grievous. Excellent idea.
They should have turned "From my point of veiw the jedi are evil!" to "The only evil in the galaxy is the Jedi!!"
They could have changed yoda’s “not if I have anything to say about it” to “not if around, I still am.” And changing palpatine’s “no NO NOOO YOU WILL DIE!!” To “No NO NOOO YOU HAVE LOST!!!”
And they could have changed the “you underestimate my power” line when obiwan had the high ground to “you underestimate me, obiwan!” Cause seriously, what kind of a response to someone having the high ground by saying “you underestimate my power!”?
I like how the open ended nature of this leaves more room for anthology movies.
You lost me with removing Order 66. That's the master stroke of Sidious's plan, the payoff to him making a clone army, & the explanation of how you kill unbeatable magic warriors: Have their own troops shoot them in the back.
Honestly, it feela like it kind of goes off the rails from there. Why does Obi-Wan go from "the Sith Lord needs a trial" to "I must leave Anakin to die"? Yoda deciding to ditch the galaxy for 20 years is kind of a dick move & the implication that it's his plan makes no sense when he tries to turn Luke away. Also, I liked the finale duels.
I agree, but I think there is a lot better foundation to this take on the story. It just needs a bit more rewriting from there to align those motivations and actions with the characters and the inevitable plot.
also from what i remember there isn't a reason the jedi were outlawed. so there was nothing stopping yoda and obi wan from going back to the temple and training the younglings back there. unless they sent the fucking children to war too. also it contradicts obi's line:"and helped the empire hunt down the remaining jedi knights..." in a new hope.
