Love your reviews and the insight. Especially what you said about NS hybrid profile on cat tracks. That you can just relax and flat base it without feeling like there's a surprise that could come up at any moment.
Just bought the 159df today but a 2021model for 395 brand new. Can’t wait to try it out. Installed new burton maltiva binding . Use size 11 boots and weigh 197 so it should be perfect for me
Its an old insta 360 one x amzn.to/3TgXDue the new ones do it a bit better, but the old one is great in the sun. I have it on a selfie stick that is about 1m or so extended, and the camera removes it
I'm sure you could, but I would be a bit scared to. It's pretty stiff, if I was going to ride rails I would just get the Proto Slinger instead, so it would be easier to move around, less aggressive.
How would you say this compares, ride wise, to the Ride Superpig? I have big feet and I've pretty much narrowed it down to these two boards. I'm currently on a Rome National, and I like the mostly camber feel. I ride in a lot of icy conditions so edge hold is important, and I wonder about the Ride since it doesn't have any kind of disrupted sidecut. The Proto is maybe better in that regard, but I've never been on a hybrid board. Thanks!
If you like the feel of camber, then it would probably be best to stick to the Superpig. The hybrid profile of Never Summers is way way different, as it can change from feeling quite loose when you are flat to really locked in when you turn. Edge hold is crazy though, although the profile and sidecut is probably doing some complicated things, it just works really well and grips like crazy. It might not beat the feel of the stiff camber on the Superpig for edge hold overall, but it definitely takes much less work to get very good edge hold. If you were able to get a DF version of the Proto Synthesis, it will be wide enough for even really big boots. I would see if you can find a shop somewhere near you that you can demo or rent one, just to work out if the hybrid is going to be something that suits you. Otherwise, the Superpig is going to be a good upgrade from the National.
@@SnowboardRobot Awesome, I appreciate it! I don't think there is anywhere near the that'll let me demo either board unfortunately... So does the superpig beat the protosynthesis out on edge hold overall?
Hey, i have a Proto HD 2014 and i really love this board, but i wonder if its really worth an upgrade for this new model or go for a full camber one, if u can give me your opinion about that i would appreciate, thanks!
This one, with the new profile will feel like a big step up, and although camber is great, seeing you like your Proto HD so much this is probably the safer direction. I would just make sure you are wanting a medium/stiff board, if you want something similar but more playful it would be worth looking at the Proto Slinger as another option.
@@SnowboardRobot Have a Proto HD as well, WB, and the 25. Got a Capita Mercury, but worried about the camber being too aggressive to transition to and if I should just go to a Proto Synthesis. Just want a one board do it all, no park, hardly ever switch.
Big White for a combination of convenience, ski in/ski out and the quality of snow with almost no lines, but Revelstoke for proper steep terrain. I have only ridden Whistler in spring in the park, so I'll see what it's like in winter this season.
This would just be a slightly more aggressive (flex) twin version of the Shaper, but with the Shockwave profile, so same camber on the nose as the tail.
That's a tough one. If I wanted to charge harder I would choose the Proto, it feels a bunch stiffer to me, and the edge hold/effort needed is quite low. It does ride like a much more "serious" board, not that playful and fun. I would actually have a look at the Harpoon - ua-cam.com/video/tib9alUqfUI/v-deo.html it is a board that sits between the two, taking a few good things from both (edge hold, directional shape, edge hold, fun and playful ride).
@@SnowboardRobot legend. Thanks for the reply. Had previously looked at the harpoon and not considered it but will give it another look after your review
Im thinking of getting this board but the only sizes left are 154W or 158, I'm 6ft1 79kg and shoe size 11. Which size board would you recommend? Also would you recommend Salomon Assassin 2022 or this board for allmountain-freestyle?
Both boards are solid choices, but it would all depend on what you have ridden before, and what you are used to. If you have ridden and liked hybrid (with rocker between your feet) then go for the Proto, but if you liked camber feeling boards then the Assassin would be better. I would go for the wide with size 11s, but I can't find the actual width for the 154 wide, only 157 wide or bigger...
Thanks for the advice! I ended up going for the Yes Greats 154, since i've only ridden camber boards. I think its a slight step up from the assassin and wanted to treat myself.
I am using the Insta 360 one X on the invisible selfie stick ua-cam.com/video/vAMSp02mVs8/v-deo.html I have the stick extended as far as it goes and then try to keep it as stable as I can with my back hand. You could get the same results with any 360 camera though.
As soon as I can find one to try one I will, I do really want to see what the triple camber is like - the other Never Summer reviews I will have soon will be the Proto Slinger, Harpoon and Swift.
Love the Footage bro 👍. My friend just got this board and it reminds me of the ripsaw’s flex. I’m pretty sure it is a different ride than the ripsaw though.
As a beginner i tried this board thinking there wouldnt be any difficulty, and I ate shit. Would not reccomend this board to beginners whatsoever. I ride fine on the rentals and probably going to start out with the Salomon Pulse

this channel is so underrated, I wish more people knew about you.
great camera work, don't understand why people film mostly face-foward videos instead of from the back. much more interesting to look at.
agreed!
such a damn awesome area to ride... could watch this all day long
Big White is a super nice place when the sun is out
Thanks for the review, just picked up the proto slinger myself. Looking forward to your review on it!

Great video as always, my friend!
Excellent review. Glad you mentioned the lack of pop, pros, and cons..
You made me miss Canada though. 😂
what camera setup is that? id love to buy that along with the board!

Thanks for your thorough review, just wondering whether you would also take this board on rails in the park?
I'm sure you could, but I would be a bit scared to. It's pretty stiff, if I was going to ride rails I would just get the Proto Slinger instead, so it would be easier to move around, less aggressive.
thanks for making this video, I'm excited to pick up this board in a couple weeks.

Out of Big White, Revelstoke, and Whistler what's your favorite resort?
Big White for a combination of convenience, ski in/ski out and the quality of snow with almost no lines, but Revelstoke for proper steep terrain. I have only ridden Whistler in spring in the park, so I'll see what it's like in winter this season.
@@SnowboardRobot Cool, thanks!
These are perfect conditions… can I assume by the videos date that this is in fact October??
How does this compare to the Shaper twin which seems to have more rocker in the middle?
This would just be a slightly more aggressive (flex) twin version of the Shaper, but with the Shockwave profile, so same camber on the nose as the tail.
Awesome video! Short question: 6ft, 160lbs and 12boot size, I am looking at 155 2021 year proto synthesis, what do you think?
Thanks! Is that a wide/X version? I would try and get an X with size 12s if possible
Love the reviews mate. Always super helpful and my go to channel for board reviews
Would you take this or the dancehaul as a all mountain board?

man I wish I can ride like you! Narrow stance look so cool, but when I tried narrow stance it feels so scary.
Yeah the narrower stance widths are less stable, mine isn't crazy narrow any more.
Are you using a GoPro Max held with your backhand for those from the back shots?
I am using the Insta 360 one X on the invisible selfie stick ua-cam.com/video/vAMSp02mVs8/v-deo.html

@@SnowboardRobot perfect thanks! Keep up the great videos!
Great review. Which resort is this? Its got a great view!
Thanks! It's at Big White in BC Canada, the snow ghosts up the top of the mountain are pretty cool
Can you do a never summer proto fr review
As soon as I can find one to try one I will, I do really want to see what the triple camber is like - the other Never Summer reviews I will have soon will be the Proto Slinger, Harpoon and Swift.
You going to also review the proto ultra?

Thanks! Yeah it does have quite a different feel than the Ripsaw
Would anyone recommend the 158 or 161 for 6’1 male 190
Both would be alright, 158 if you want it a bit more playful and 161 if you like to ride fast and want a bit more stability.
I’m 6’ 180lbs, anyone know if a 155 would work for me?
Yeah the 155 will be fine, the 158 too if you spent more time riding fast.
Those bindings are the damned best...
what mountain is this?
It's Big White, in BC Canada
hey mate, what mountain is this?
