- Singapore is set to host the month-long Suzuki Cup tournament from 5 Dec where 3 football stars, Fandi Ahmad' sons Irfan, Ikhsan & Ilhan, have been selected to be part of the final squad.
We explore the lineage of our famous football family, dubbed the 'Beckhams of Singapore'.

it was sad to know that they forget to highlight Fandi had a very successful season in Malaysian League mid 80s and early 90s. He won 2 league titles and 3 Malaysia Cup and been top scorer in one of the season he played for Kuala Lumpur FA.

In 1984 i was in Holland for a couple of months. Still remember how the dutch spoke highly of Fandi when he was with Gronigen. Some of my friends watched the league games just to see him in action…love from malaysia 🇲🇾

My uncle used to work in Singapore Coffee Shop early 90s where Fendi Ahmad often visit. During one time,Fendi encounter with his future wife African Miss World at that coffee shop. My uncle help Fendi love by passing a piece of paper asking her out.Then the love happen and at last end in marriage.My uncle play important role in his love story.
Wendy was not interested in Fandi at first. She was interested in Abbas Said but it was only one way as Abbas didn't show any interest in her.
Our one and only proud Singapore son,humble man,faithful husband and proud father,was proud to be with his Malaysia cup league during the 80's at national stadium, those were the days where are race come together as a truly big family supporting them,one will never ever see that kind of kallang wave anymore
True, those years were the peaks of our collective Singaporean identity and pride. The Kallang Wave and the Kallang Roar were the nightmares of any football team that dares challenge the Singapore Lions on its home ground.

Malaysia cup winner with Kuala Lumpur
1988 - A skinny 15 year old kid used to ride his bicycle every evening to the DBKL field in Brickfields to watch his heroes train. The KL FA team put together by the Datuk Bandar at the time Tan Sri Elyas Omar. Rashid Hassan, Razip Ismail, Serbegeth Singh, Lim Teong Kim, Mat Zan Mat Aris, K Kannan, the unforgettable high-pitch screeching of Malek Awab down the wing. All legends of the game in their own right. But one footballer stood head and shoulders above the rest…Fandi Ahmad. Fandi used to drive to training in his Honda CRX. One of the most humble guys you could meet. Always took the time to say hi and a little word of encouragement to that scrawny little kid, despite already being a superstar in the region and one of the most famous strikers in Asia at the time. Every time KL played Selangor, that little kid went up to him the evening before the game and begged him to score. He didn’t disappoint! A hero to that little kid. 34 years ago. I was that little kid.

Until today,Block 755 Yishun Open Field is called Padang Fandi (Fandi Field). Because he used to stay with his elder sister at Block 755 Yishun.
Fandi is truly a legend...skill and most humble ...ever meet up in person with him during his prime time...he had his lunch at golden shoe...crowd immediately get up and swarmed him...he took the trouble.to greet everyone and fled cos the crowd is.getting too intense...May all of his sons made him proud and of course to his wife Wendy for giving all the supports for him and their sons....May yr family be blessed....
Fandi is a legend & I hope his children will one day walk in his footsteps.

Padang Fandi. Very well known field we have in Yishun. I can Still rmbr everybody wanted to go to his wedding held at that field where he used to play football.

Wendy was initially interested in Abbas Said but he wasn't interested in her. So Fandi was actually second choice. But the title of greatest footballer in Singapore goes to Quah Kim Song and not Fandi. Kim Song mesmerised defenders and his quick dribbles and running with the ball down the left flanks always caught defenders off guard, not to mention having hard time trying to catch up with him. But his specialty was diving headers with which he scored several goals
@@Raul_LuisFC Groningen was in the second tier league in Dutch football at that time, not in first division. And Fandi didn't actually impressed which was why his contract was not renewed. As for Kim Song during his time football was an amateur sport and the footballers worked day time jobs. So please be more mature with your comments. Don't compare apples with oranges.

I remember watching a life telecast on tv, I think it was the Merdeka Cup or something - Malaysia vs Singapore, there was these incidents involving Fandi & a Msian player; Fandi made a tackle I think it was, which made Hasbullah Awang made this comment, "...kecil² sudah kurang ajar...."😂 Fandi was delightful to watch with his skills. Although a Msian, I followed his development even when he signed up for FC Groningen..
