  • This is the sixth episode of Critical Thinking: Going Deeper, which was long only available to members of The Center for Critical Thinking Community Online (community.criticalthinking.org).
A prior question is a question whose answer is presupposed by another question - e.g., the question “What is the boiling point of water on earth at sea level?” presupposes we have answered other questions, such as “Can water boil?” and “Does altitude affect the boiling point of water?”
Complex interdisciplinary questions are questions with prior questions from multiple domains of thought - e.g., the question “How do we best restore the health of earth’s ecosystems?” entails prior questions in diverse domains such as chemistry, psychology, ethics, climatology, etc.
In this episode, Drs. Gerald Nosich and Linda Elder discuss prior questions and complex interdisciplinary questions, as well as effective approaches to answering them.
This podcast touches on one or a few aspect(s) of an overarching body of theory known as the Paul-Elder Framework for Critical Thinking, and its content must be understood in the broader context of this framework. You can become more familiar with our approach to critical thinking through other videos on this channel, and through our websites (see below).
For over 40 years, the Foundation for Critical Thinking - along with its sister organization, the Center for Critical Thinking - have worked toward the advancement of critical societies. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that seeks to promote essential change throughout education and society by cultivating fairminded critical thinking. I am a marxist and a historian and i love your example. Most of us do only present a marxist view. Just as liberals often present only their view.
Historians, educators, and thinkers of all stripes ought be held against a critical lens.
This is easily the best logic and critical thinking channel on youtube and i look forward to your discussions every time.
Thank you for your work and for sharing this series!😊
