  • Setting up and using the Lenz BM1 in conjunction with a Lenz Silver loco decoder. In this demo I look at ABC Braking used to stop a loco in a track section. This can be used to protect trains from running into the buffers or to prevent a train from running through a red signal. The module works without a PC programme or any instruction from the Lenz Controller - it is purely between the BM1 and decoder.

I would like yo have braking sections but I want to use Soundtraxx Econami decoders. Will this still work, or is there another way to do this.? Thanks.

I do not think the Soundtraxx decoders have the facility to respond to these braking modules so I believe they would just drive through without stopping ( It may be worth checking with Soundtraxx if they support ABC Braking just in case they have added this). One possible solution is train detection and a PC Programme to automate your Soundtraxx fitted locos, provided your DCC system supports this. Cheers Chris

I can't see anything in the Soundtraxx Econami about this, so it looks like it doesn't have it. I'm using PC automation, but wanted to ensure stopping at signals even if there is an error of some kind due to having a mix of automatic and manual operation going on. Appreciate the help. Thanks,

How about a section of track at the signal that is isolated and unpowered if the signal is red and powered when the signal is green - this would prevent anything running a red signal. Cheers

Interesting idea! However, I'm using DCC sound decoders so it would kill the sound. I did then think I could use 'stay alive' technology, but that would just keep the train going! Mmmm! Thanks for your thought Chris.

It would be a fail safe - the idea would be to stop the train in the live section before the signal (The sound staying on) - If it didn't stop then the Dead section would catch it and you would have an immediate warning that something had gone wrong with the sound shut down - presumably if a train was running a red you would have to reset the programme or ajust the manual running. Cheers Chris
