Did Hayagreeva Vishnu arrive first to kill Madhu and Kaitabha or the Hayagreeva Asura?
Vishnu killed Madhu and Kaitabha after fighting them for 5000 years with Devi’s help. After that, he wanted to take rest and while he was sleeping, Vishnu’s head was chopped off by his own Sharanga bow. And then, his head was replaced with a Horse head as that would allow him to decimate Hayagreeva the asura, as Hayagreeva the deva.
