Fabulous car for the price and great review as ever, the only thing that lets it down is the insurance group of 24 for the 45hp and 25 for the 65hp, I know part of this is down to the lack of safety systems which makes it lighter as a result but ultimately it's going to be expensive to insure.

Great review -Have to say it looks like a great little car for that price point, ideal little city car with very low ownership and running costs. See the review on another channel that has done just that, deliberately drove on motorways to check how it was. Everything is fine (in the higher powered version), perfectly adequate performance. Saying that, 95% of the time a car like this won’t go anywhere near a Motorway!
@@ISuperTed cheers for that. Am genuinely interested in this car. Most distance I do in one go is about 120km, with a mix of motorway driving. Might be worth getting something a little bigger tho
Don't underestimate a small car with only 45 hp. My first new car was a Toyota 1000 with 45 hp, I traveled all over Europe in that car. And I sold it in 1980 with 275,000 km on the clock.
Nice review. This 65hp Spring with a 26kwh battery is the same price as the 42kwh battery Hyundai Intster. Both just under €20k on the road prices. Why on earth would anyone buy a Spring when you can get a 300km range Inster for the same price. Also, the Inster will have far better resale value, so its cost of ownership will be less. I can see zero reasons to buy a Spring over an Inster.
Not personally in the market for one but as a “car guy” do get asked my opinion a lot so would love to test drive one to see what they are like. Full changed this year there was one on display, but no test drives and no sales people, just the car and lots of unanswered interest
Hey Nobby, how's things...I must have worked the cost out wrong when I was looking at the Spring...I got about 12 euro for a charge...my electricity costs 0.51cent per kwh and based it on 24 kW battery as I couldn't remember exact size.....where did I go wrong in my maths? Sorry haven't had time to watch video yet cos just got to work, but can't wait to watch later. I do really like the look of the Spring
Nothing wrong with your maths. It depends on your electricity tariff. With direct debit and online billing, Electric Ireland has a night rate of 0.1281 cent. That by 24 will give you €3.07.
I have the mk1 spring since 2021 i love it, perfect for narrow road in italy, amazing in city. But i think for the same price the new leapmotor t03 from stellantis is better, 10 kwh more battery than the spring, more adas and hp. Also there is a cooling system for the battery
As you asked, you’re getting it totally arse-ways. It’s definitely “Da-Cha” (per the dealers). Our family car is a Dacia Logan and has been quietly brilliant, so I have a soft spot for them. Anyways, for the target audience that just need a city car and can home charge, this is a brilliant car full stop, forget it’s an EV. Just a little too small for me, but if/when they bring out a Sandero sized EV with no frills at a good price, I’ll bite their hand off.
I would of appreciated more info on the safety assistance systems and overall safety scores. For a school run car, I’d need to know this before putting my child in.
If they can fit a 26 kwh battery an a Kwid, they should be able to fit a somewhat bigger battery in the Sandero. A simple basic electric Sandero with maybe a 35-40kwh battery would be a great ev. Maybe, now Renault are introducing the R5 (late 2024), Dacia will be able to use the Zoe architecture to produce a restyled Sandero ev?
Dacia did talk about an EV Sandero but it will arrive on the market in 2027/2028. They probably want to use the tech Renault is developing for the 2026 Twingo.
The only thing that annoys me a little, that's not nobbys fault by the way, is that all UA-cam reviews are from all spec cars, or mid spec at least... Then they say the price, but you can even compare the cheapest car... I mean, I bet the 17k is way worse than the one on the video
Like Dacias boldness in hitting this part of the EV segment andvtheir design is fine the power is fine its biggest issue for now is you can get a 24 plate VW eup for less i know where my money would go.
My neighbour has just bought a 2 year old Leaf for £13,000. Had the battery health checked too. Nice car and home charging means peanuts to run. That’s going to be the SPring’s competition - cheap used EV’s that are better cars but don’t have that new car cachet.
For almost the same price, I cant see many reasons for picking this over the far better specced Leapmotor T03. Especially as the T03 is built in Europe.
2 years ago I saw the Dacia Spring in Paris, France being used as a shared car like GoCar, it must have taken 2 years to drive this 45bhp/65bhp to Ireland. On looking at the Dacia Spring in Paris 2 years ago a lot of the outside plastic trims had snapped off or broken like the centre plastic panel (b pilar trim) Then again as a shared vehicle it will be abused. The Irish Government won't like this cheap EV as no VRT, less VAT intake due to it's cheap price, no duty on the fuel as it's an EV
I wouldn't buy a car that was made in China due to uncertainty about tariffs and the inevitability of conflict over Taiwan. Pity this one wasn't manufactured in Europe.
You're deluding yourself if you think the Tesla is in any way comparable. Second hand Nissan LEAF, VW eUP - eGolf, Renault Zoe and Hyundai Ioniq are much more appropriate. Besides who in their right mind would actually want a Tesla now given its brand image and service & repair department is in tatters. The only thing Tesla's are good for now is the supercharger network.
I wouldn’t buy any second hand ev. The battery will be rinsed and too expensive to replace. A well used 5 year old Tesla won’t get much more than 100km out of a charge.
Great price but still the infrastructure isn't there to warrant the purchase, and rid you of range anxiety, plus theirs still the fire hazard issues that once you commit to it, insurance premiums will continue to increase. The DVLA will be wanting €480 in road tax on all electric vehicles from 2025 and it will continue to increase without addressing the lack of road maintenance to warrant that road tax and the price of electricity will be on a par with Petrol and Diesel within a couple of years guaranteed because our treasury is greedy. They will make it so expensive that either you won't be able to afford it or you will reduce how often you use the car. I'm still not convinced that they are the future.

Ideal for a very limited market. As soon as any distance is involved you will be looking at 10 to 15 times the cost to charge and add hours to your journey times. In most cases, taking into account depreciation, cost of battery replacement, servicing and road tax, it will still be way cheaper using public transport.
Love the Spring as a good Honest product! It's a step in the right direction in purposefullness. I don't like the fad for SUV styling more range can be made with better aerodynamic efficiency. The extra few hundred euro for the cardboard boot divider and front boot box is completely outrageous . I respect that the Spring has 26kWh in under 1000kg is something to really observe after 15 years of where EVs were. Just a shame about the suv craze. the Spring closest thing to a Citroen Czero/Mitsubishi iMiEV shich i love, Analogue if possible, less faff less weight as possible, less profit gouging, not being over engineered to a fault. I trust that the bsttery monitering engineering of the Renault Zoe has carried on into this Dacia which is promising. The Dacia Spring makes me regret that its predecessor the Twingo/Smart Fortwo and older Twingos was given up on too soon because market says that people want bigger cars??? good quality cars are far fewer now like the VW eUP, Ford Ka and Fiesta, cars like the Fiat Panda which did not get the 500e platform.
the boot isn't "light" it's cheap tat! i opened the door on a much bigger Jogger today - it feels like is made of tin foil - even compared to my 10 yr old Peugeot 308 - they are cheap because they are built cheap!
@NobbyOnCars you only have to look at 3 year old id4 lost half price 20k plus in 3 years crazy , and there sitting on dealers lots , exactly why vw is laying of staff , il take a rc car over a ev even it costs double like any real car guy , I'm not restricted on where I can go or on time
I now it is a press car, and Dacia only wants to show the top spec, but on a budget car it would have been nice to see a review of the base spec car. The one for 16k €, the one with 45hp. 🤷♂️
It’s unlikely to be the big seller for Ireland, practically zero sales Dacia tell me but I’ll take a look at that one soon, this was filmed at a media launch so I didn’t have huge time with it!
This is where Fiat should have gone with the Panda however it has a narrow operating envelope in terms of charging, range cruising ability and interior comfort but as a 2nd or 3rd household vehicle it has a place though many used EVs would be on my list before a new Spring. As a used proposition it might find its in some demandI just feel I would be happier with an UP MII etc. My 205 Diesel has a similar mere 60bhp is equally light and happily sits at motorway speeds does 600 miles on a tank and is adequately roomy much cheapness to run too.
@OldtricksForolddog ignorant comment to be fair, batteries are not just dying in all these cars and only those who haven’t a clue come out with this stuff
@@NobbyOnCarsyou got the right idea just the wrong units. You've better understanding of electric efficiency and range than most auto journos, particularly the misleading paper print dinos
So it’s dangerous and illegal to use your phone whilst driving as it’s too distracting , yet people like you can drive along whilst talking and looking at the camera. That’s not distracting is it! I’d say irresponsible.
Utter rubbish and in fact this will be way more desirable than a lot of the overpriced big EV’s (that I agree aren’t good for trade-on). You’ve been drinking too much of the kool-aid.
Very informative, un-biased review. however if EV's were the future, they would not have to mandate them! Keeping current cars on the road, really is the most environmental way forward. If everyone kept car for 20 years, Less emissions. BTW That is a re-badged Tata Nexon or Renault KZE, which sells for £6045 OTR in India OTR. So a 300% rip off.
Environmental perhaps but depends on emissions and if they’re serviced etc - the amount of older cars I see pumping out smoke because people won’t pay for the upkeep. Safety systems on 20 year old cars are not great either.
This is such a myth. Only 1/3 of all car emissions comes from build and disposal. 2/3 comes from fuel burnt. That's just the facts. The longer you keep it, the higher that 2/3 becomes and the more it pollutes. The longer you keep it, the less efficient the engine becomes and the more it pollutes per Km. Bernard: It's. A. Myth. Keeping an old car longer is NOT better than changing it for a less polluting one. But the petrol companies would sure love to persuade you of that,...
It has the same shell as those cars, but not much else - western versions are hugely upgraded. You can’t say a 300% rip-off, as other countries have completely different taxes, tariffs etc. It’s a shame, but a lot of the cost of cars here are not the car makers doing, it’s government taxes.
Have to give Dacia credit here, there are a lot of people that say they want a "small, back to basics simple car with no touchscreen nonsense" and, well, that's absolutely what their current range can offer you. Even in a tiny EV.

@@CFG93711 I mean if you’re going to fill it with people and a stuffed boot, it might not launch up the hills but for normal use, no problems.
Leave well alone, buy at your peril
I take it you’re familiar with them?
2 years ago I saw the Dacia Spring in Paris, France being used as a shared car like GoCar, it must have taken 2 years to drive this 45bhp/65bhp to Ireland. On looking at the Dacia Spring in Paris 2 years ago a lot of the outside plastic trims had snapped off or broken like the centre plastic panel (b pilar trim) Then again as a shared vehicle it will be abused. The Irish Government won't like this cheap EV as no VRT, less VAT intake due to it's cheap price, no duty on the fuel as it's an EV
Don’t worry..they will pass laws to “fix” that as the revenues decline.
What's the 0-60? Can it do 100?
100 what ?
@@alexrobinson2281 mph. speed.
We'll be ignoring this one in North America.
you've enough on your plate to be fair...
Sorry, you can't have one 😢
You won't have to... Dacia will be ignoring you!
Now you’ve got Trump imposing tariffs n anything that moves, I think you’re going to have bigger problems to worry about.
I wouldn't buy a car that was made in China due to uncertainty about tariffs and the inevitability of conflict over Taiwan. Pity this one wasn't manufactured in Europe.
So far as I know they plan to move assembly to Slovenia for that very reason.
Hmm
2nd hand Tesla v New Dacia
Good review but I still think a 5yo Tesla is the better choice
You're deluding yourself if you think the Tesla is in any way comparable.
Second hand Nissan LEAF, VW eUP - eGolf, Renault Zoe and Hyundai Ioniq are much more appropriate.
Besides who in their right mind would actually want a Tesla now given its brand image and service & repair department is in tatters.
The only thing Tesla's are good for now is the supercharger network.
@@toyotaprius79Agree with this. Who in their right mind would want to in any way endorse Musk?
Not a single person on the planet is going to be debating whether to get a Tesla or a Spring - they are chalk and cheese.
@@ISuperTed Correct. I'd never consider a Tesla.
I wouldn’t buy any second hand ev. The battery will be rinsed and too expensive to replace. A well used 5 year old Tesla won’t get much more than 100km out of a charge.
I don't see the proposition when you can buy a 1st gen leaf for as low as 2,000 euro
Dacia, Good family Car. But there's nothing In some Asian countries 😢
Would you buy one for your kids?
My eldest is 9 so no!
Safer than the Citroën AMI that 15 year olds drive in France mind you they only do 29MPH and the Spring have more seats. 😊
Yep
Cybertruck also has one wiper, but this is much cooler.
An E-Class had one long before Tesla were a thing! And a 2CV...
@@NobbyOnCars all cooler than the Cybertruck.
Dodgy steering no thanks and that sound when you opened the boot lol
it costs €9000 with €5000 rebate. My speedbike costs more than that car after the rebate...
So they pay you 17k to take it , front grill looks like chicken cage 🤔 , it dosnt look very good quality in fairness
It's good enough for the price 😊
In a lot of his tumb nails, Nobby stands like he's squeezing out a fart. 😅
Better out than in
9 to 10 cent? What plan is that 🤣
In the UK, Octopus Energy does an overnight plan of £ 0.075 per kwh, which is 9 cents in Euros, I'm sure you have the same thing in Ireland
Electric Ireland, Energia, Bord Gais… there’s loads doing it overnight
Bordgaisenergy
Discounts explained
Urban Day units (8am to 11pm excl. Peak)36.53 now 24.84 cent per kWh
Urban Peak units (5pm to 7pm)50.94 now 34.64 cent per kWh
Urban Night units (11pm to 8am)27.54 now 18.73 cent per kWh
Urban EV units (2am to 5am)9.31 now 6.33 cent per kWh
Energia do a four hour charge window at 7.6 cent per kilowatt...
@@NobbyOnCars That's really interesting, I just looked up bord gais, thanks
Ideal for a very limited market. As soon as any distance is involved you will be looking at 10 to 15 times the cost to charge and add hours to your journey times. In most cases, taking into account depreciation, cost of battery replacement, servicing and road tax, it will still be way cheaper using public transport.
Definitely NOT the cheapest car on the market, although it looks like it should be.
@@urbanspaceman7183 it is in Ireland
Don’t think you’re telling any of us anything new - people know they’re cheap
Hahahahahahahaha your fkin hilarious
This thing is a total piece of $hit
Have you driven one?
😂 nonsense
You've obviously driven one. What didn't you like about it?
Sad basement dwellers are out again
Second hand you would have too give it away
Yep 3 year old like 7k
And wouldn’t 7k be a great price for a second owner to be able to buy a 3 year old car! Assuming your residual calculations are correct…
@NobbyOnCars was thinking about it a dealer trade in price would be 4 to 5 k so someone has to take a 12 to 14 loss in the first 3 years
@NobbyOnCars you only have to look at 3 year old id4 lost half price 20k plus in 3 years crazy , and there sitting on dealers lots , exactly why vw is laying of staff , il take a rc car over a ev even it costs double like any real car guy , I'm not restricted on where I can go or on time
After 3 years old when anything go's wrong it will be cheaper to bin it like a old washing machine
Any road tax ??? They will try to get some revenue back some how !!!
120.
Dacia is pronounced DAT-CHA!
got-cha
This is where Fiat should have gone with the Panda however it has a narrow operating envelope in terms of charging, range cruising ability and interior comfort but as a 2nd or 3rd household vehicle it has a place though many used EVs would be on my list before a new Spring.
As a used proposition it might find its in some demandI just feel I would be happier with an UP MII etc.
My 205 Diesel has a similar mere 60bhp is equally light and happily sits at motorway speeds does 600 miles on a tank and is adequately roomy much cheapness to run too.
Problem for Fiat is it’s a Stellantis car. Need I say more?
@ISuperTed To be fair Dacia is Renault and I won't buy one of their fragile overpriced bucket of bolts.
Bs..cost of batteries will render them un re- sellable
@OldtricksForolddog ignorant comment to be fair, batteries are not just dying in all these cars and only those who haven’t a clue come out with this stuff
@NobbyOnCars my boss had one😬
.now has a diesel car...
@ irrelevant to your claim about batteries
13 litres per 100km? A glitch in the matrix there!
kWh 🤦🏼☺️
@@NobbyOnCarsyou got the right idea just the wrong units. You've better understanding of electric efficiency and range than most auto journos, particularly the misleading paper print dinos
I flip between ICE and EVs so it’s not that hard to mix them up without realising at the time on camera!
This car has...I don't know, tame meeky appearance. Not as powerful imposing as Dacia Duster. I certainly hope they'll work on it.
9-10ct for kwh 😮 in my location Lithuania 25ct for 1 kwh
Good idea but no Dacia
Totally garbage cars
So it’s dangerous and illegal to use your phone whilst driving as it’s too distracting , yet people like you can drive along whilst talking and looking at the camera. That’s not distracting is it! I’d say irresponsible.
Nobody has to hold a camera to talk to it you moron
Will not be able to trade it in after a few years. The first of many disposable EVs.
All cars are ultimately disposable 😂
Uninformed claptrap. The car has an LFP battery which will be good for 300,000+ miles.
Utter rubbish and in fact this will be way more desirable than a lot of the overpriced big EV’s (that I agree aren’t good for trade-on). You’ve been drinking too much of the kool-aid.
13 litre for 100 km ! for electric car !!
Kwh
Ya know what I meant….
From other reviews, the EU specification is way higher to account for the safety systems (the ones required as a minimum)
It has the same shell as those cars, but not much else - western versions are hugely upgraded. You can’t say a 300% rip-off, as other countries have completely different taxes, tariffs etc. It’s a shame, but a lot of the cost of cars here are not the car makers doing, it’s government taxes.
It’s pronounced Dacia, not Dacia. And anyone who even attempts to pronounce it Dacia just ends up looking silly 😋
Your first line doesn’t really work written down…
Renault Rubbish.
You've obviously driven one. What didn't you like about it?
Recommend to skip any car that got zero ot one star in EuroNCAP testings, should not be even road legal a death trap like that!
