When I watched it the first time I was kind of shocked that Jo was actually a ghost.... but after the shock I thought it was sooo beautiful..the whole story is great... Nicholas Sparks is a true talent.... I hope he is writing more stories like this and other he did before.
Yes I had the same feeling, when I saw it I remember thinking: this makes so much sense and it's so beautiful. I was crying and I couldn't stop watching that scene 💜 I really didn't expect it.
If you read the book, Jo is almost like Katie’s other personality or the person she goes to when she needs to escape a memory of Kevin (her abusive husband) because after the fire she returns to her place in the woods to find the next door neighbor’s house in ruins as if nobody had lived there for a very long time; as if she made up Jo so as not to be lonely out in the woods by herself.
"I'm so glad he's found you." "I am gone and they are yours now" "I hope that one day my family will be whole again." "I'm there with all of you, watching over all of you."
For anyone who is not understanding the ending, here is the explication : Alex gave Katie a letter written by his dead wife to the next "love of his life", then she realized that alex's wife is actually her friend Jo , that's kinda weird, but actually Jo isn't a real person, she's a "ghost" if you want. She's the spirit of Alex's dead wife who in someways protected them and tried to find a good mother and wife for her children and her husband this is why she couldn't leave at first but now that she's sure that Katie is the perfect woman she can leave and let them live their life. I hope it helped you to understand the ending 😊 if it helped you pls tell me 💋 For me It's a beautiful story, the ending made it much better 😍 Nicholas sparks is a lengend 😍 he has a real talent
At the beginning I was like: oh, ok it's just a love movie like everyone else, but then this end let me in shock! Just for this part the movie become totally amazing and beautiful ❤️
“I hope that one day my family is whole again...” omg I lost it with that. If you haven't lost someone you love yet, you won't know what it does to you. And everyone will lose someone they love.
Agreed.. Although I lose it at "The thought of you gives me hope. Hope that Josh finds someone to fish with again, that Lexi has someone to help her on her wedding day.." I was a wreck.. Having lived through a parent with cancer, having a best friend who lost her mum and another who lost her dad and hearing them mourn who will do those things with them like Katie for Josh and Lexi. Hits hard doesn't it. A very simplr scene but a heart wrencher! :)
This last scene will be in my heart forever. The letter from Erin was just so amazing and it touched my heart. My grandfather recently received news from his doctor that he's only got a couple months left to live, and I love my grandfather very much. This movie scene gives me the hope that even when the people we love are gone, they are never really gone. It gives me hope that my grandfather will still be watching over me and my family.
I wish all the best for your grandfather!!! Haley, there is no matter they still live with us or not, they will still in every step we take and always on our minds on long journey ahead. So, spending precious time with him and reminds him of the best moments in his lifetime... with smiles and hope. No one knows what happens until it happens. So, be happy and keep hope and faith in life or whatever may happens!
the shocking,breath-taking,touching scene.this is the scene that changes my perspective about this movie,i thought i was like "okaay, its pretty standard movie" then the ending is shocking me.i have to admit it i was crying, but good crying
Okay, I m a guy. I admit that I cried a little when I watched this movie. But, what bothers a little is that, how did she write a letter and give it to her husband? I mean she's dead. Then again it's a movie.
I love my dad,My dad died last year and now hes gone.I am only 10 and is crying all the time at school and home,I know my dad is watching over me,He always takes care of me and always will even though hes gone.
sorry this happen i know i am much older i am 63 and i was 61 when my Dad died he lived with me the last seven years of his life he had a stroke when my mom died he was so upset they were married 58 years at that time i know how you feel he was my whole life and he was my best friend he was a wonderful man i will pray that your pain will end and yes i believe He is watching over you and stills loves you
I lost my dad to cancer when I was 10 too. I'm now 35 with 3 of my own kids and have realized the pain never really goes away, but transforms itself into a way of life. You will become resilient and strong and you will learn to love deeper and greater than most. Hang in there. I promise everything will be okay.
Tuan Pham Yes, your daddy always walks with you. He wants to see you smiling and not to think about him very often because he doesn't want you get emotional.
When I watched the whole good movie Safe Haven, I didn't understand the ending. But when I read the ending of the book, I finally realized that Jo was a spirit watching over Katie and that she's the spirit of Alex's wife who passed over. I didn't think the writer would write anything that relates to some spiritualism because some people make fun of it and they shouldn't.
The end scene of Safe Haven was beautiful and yet spiritual. Jo's spirit came back to act as a guide and good friend to Katie. She watched as this newcomer interacted with her husband and children, Jo encouraged this young woman to confront her fears and to also accept love again.
A rare gem in romantic films in recent times. The 80s, 90s and early 00's were full of romantic films of all times - dramas, comedies etc. Safe Haven is a gem!
This movie had me crying so hard.. This part just hit me so hard. See my dad passed away when I was a little boy so this movie makes me miss him so much. You know I never cried watching a movie before till this one... It hit home man. From the beginning to end it was one of the best movies I have ever seen. Everyone deserves a second chance and it ended up really good for Katy. See many of us take life for granted and it could end just like that. Life is so short. Have a great and blessed day.
Jo told Katie to keep taking pictures and capturing memories as she left, Alex kept taking pictures of josh and Lexie at the beach. She must’ve told Alex the same thing when she passed, this movie is so clever
One of the most beautiful unexpected ending i had ever seen..... Loved it❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ that twist was epic😍😍😍😍😍😍no word to say... My favrt movie ever💕💕💕💕💕💕HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO EVERYONE.........
When I first heard her voice I thought it sounded like Katie's friend and I was really confused but everything literally perfectly fell into pieces! What a stunning film 😊😭❤️ need a man like that and my safe haven!
I was in the projecting room when I walked passed and saw this seen. I stood there and watched with tears in my eyes then had to get back to playing the movies. I still cry every time I watch it
Powerful lines. This is something only a woman can say. One of the most beautiful film I’ve seen. Makes me cry every time, and God I feel so good, can’t explain how warming these lines are. Nicoles Sparks’, your writing is magical.
this scene is so beautiful to me and i disagree with anyone that thinks it was a bad ending. Jo being a ghost and the whole husband thing put a great twist on the movie and it was flawless to me. Definitely my favorite movie at the moment. (:
When i first read the book i felled in love with it.... N now after watching the movie.... It just makes it so complete i love it.... Very heart touching
Just watched the movie. By the time Jo was in her dream I said right away she’s the deceased wife…she has to be…she’s only around with her and doesn’t speak to the people around them and she’s too pretty just to be a random friend in the story :)
Best plot twist in any movie I have ever seen. I was floored when I first saw it, I get it's easy to guess now looking back but oh my god in the moment I was a mess!
I had a tiny hunch when the friend cop said her place was so secluded with no neighbors, but Jo said "not city-close neighbors" .. Then the minute I hear the voice reading the letter, I started Bawling.. Even more with the pic & all the other moments. It's such a tragic but AMAZING ending!! Jo couldn't "move on" or crossover until she knew for sure that her family was taken care of & Katie truly deserved a 2nd chance =*)
I just watched this today! Such a lovely movie 🥰😍 the end got me, I was shocked when jo is a ghost i was sad but what a beautiful ending reading the comments thank yous for clarifying this!
I thought it's same normal romantic movies when it's turned the climax oh my god it was really amazing and gives goosebumps and I literally cried yesterday I watched 6 movies none of any movies are not worthy than this really mesmerizing and appreciated to the makers of Safe Haven and thanks ☺️😍😍😍
The first time I watched this I had a feeling Jo was a ghost. I didn't know for sure though, and when she pulled out the picture I teared up, and when Jo said she hoped she was there somehow watching over them I started crying. Such a good ending ❤
i cleaned my external hd not knowing that i didn't have a backup copy of this amazing movie. it had a great plot and the old man in the store and the little kids were great actors. and this is where i discovered amos lee's music. violin was and still is my go to song
I'm sorry but the books letter part was way better and was more effective in making me cry because of the additional parts stated about Alex and the kids I can truly say that the book is 100% better than the movie
It was funny because watching this i had to go really close to my computer. I needed to make sure i was hearing right and it was Jo talking. I cried at the end.
Predicted something like this would happen when Jo told Katie to 'take more photos' (remember how Alex would do that?) I was thinking of how good a plot twist that would be if Jo was indeed his late wife and Katie's imaginary friend.. And then the second I heard her voice through the letter I just started to tear up like mad. Gosh. Love this.
When i heard the letter i thought what a cheap production they use her friends voice, hello just because we cant see her that doesnt mean we cant hear her too. Then i understand the beauty of it. Ok buddy maybe not so cheap ;))
everyone's on here like "that ending is so shocking and beautiful" and I'm just over here like, "lucky dude got to have Cobie Smulders AND Julianne Hough"
In the book, it wasn't a photo that Katie saw in the letter, it was a painting in the bedroom. In the book, the house where Alex & his kids lived was above the store. Katie's husband, Kevin, did set the store & thus the house on fire. Katie rescued the kids from the fire.
When I watched it the first time I was kind of shocked that Jo was actually a ghost.... but after the shock I thought it was sooo beautiful..the whole story is great... Nicholas Sparks is a true talent.... I hope he is writing more stories like this and other he did before.

@I am me hmmm... bloody woman... no one can ever read your mind... hmmm I mean their mind... hmmm
how are people confused by the ending? It made everything fall into place. I was so shocked at first omfg so sad. Such a good movie.
It raises questions as in why isn't Katie all of a sudden freaked out that she had been talking to a ghost all this time.
Chelsea Jackson i was shocked but it’s so beautiful
It's more like heartwarming tbh.
Nice profile pic of tom lmao
YES! the GREATEST movie. ;(((
"I'm so glad he's found you."
"I am gone and they are yours now"

is katie crazy then? i mean she was seeing a ghost
alex perrie thank you very,very much.Because i really did not understand it,now i understand.Thanks!
Milena Mitic No I don't think she is as she saw Jo's ghost before she even knew what she looked like
alex perrie my theory was she was actually alive on the end, and faked her own. Death, that's why she was hiding in the woods, I was like whatttt
when i heard the letter i actually thought her voice sounded like her friend and then it showed Jo and i was like omg.
omg me too
Same here lol.
The same
Same

I totally agree. :'c
This last part really changed how I look at things. It was so...beautiful and touching.

Thank you. Reading what you wrote for me really made my day and made me feel a lot better :).
You're welcome, Haley!
* the letter from jo
The letter wasn’t from Erin who went by Katie. The letter was from Jo.

Tuan Pham Yes, your daddy always walks with you. He wants to see you smiling and not to think about him very often because he doesn't want you get emotional.

Then end of the movie is magical , i love love love it .
Literally the most breathtaking ending. I surely was not expecting that

Things only a woman can say, yet a man wrote that book. Brilliant.
I started crying when I heard Jo's voice! And then just lost it bawling when the picture came out. THIS MOVIE =*( so good!
I started this movie randomly because I had nothing to do that day.,., and this last scene gave me goosebumps., absolutely beautiful.

You feel a mother's love and you feel a fire that leaves you burning with exhilaration and love but most of all passion that radiates
One of the most inspirational scenes that has touched my heart and soul.

Such a great movie , perfect casting , perfect script
i thought it was a romance movie but it was a horror movie the whole time
It really was. I had nightmares during the abusive husband scene.
Its funny cause after watching this me and my older brother got so scared we had chills!
ruphang nalbo 😂😂😂
Trueeee. I got scared when I realized she was in the middle of the woods with Alex' dead wife ghost lol
Yeah, horribly awful!
I cried so hard! This is a beautiful movie!
I absolutely love this scene, soooo touching.
So thankful I found my “Alex”.❤️
Julianne was so pretty in this movie. And she did a fantastic job playing her character. 🥰

I cried so hard!! It was such a good ending!!! I loved it
I cry everytime i watch this scene. Most beautiful ending ever. :')
Sparks has always had his movies set in such beautiful places especially along the NC/SC coast and Alabama
i cleaned my external hd not knowing that i didn't have a backup copy of this amazing movie. it had a great plot and the old man in the store and the little kids were great actors. and this is where i discovered amos lee's music. violin was and still is my go to song
This is how i love romance movie, give some special feeling, BUT THIS, OH GOD!!! TOO GOOD BABY!!
I've watched this so many times but every single time she discovers that Jo is the mom, MY BODY TINGLES AND MY GOOSEBUMPS JUST COME RUSHING
I'm sorry but the books letter part was way better and was more effective in making me cry because of the additional parts stated about Alex and the kids
I can truly say that the book is 100% better than the movie
Agree I thought that they were gonna put that in the movie but I imagine it
I cried so much when I saw this scene
I didn't even watch this movie but only this scene already made me cry... Imagine the full movie! 😭😭😪😞😣
This gave me GOOSEBUMPS!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Who is here 2024? Still crying 🥹❤️
I'm a guy that enjoys good romantic movies...WHAT!
Cant belive today was first time i saw this movie... this is one of the most touching endings to a movie ive seen
It was funny because watching this i had to go really close to my computer. I needed to make sure i was hearing right and it was Jo talking. I cried at the end.
That last shot is incredible!! 🎥🌅
I love this storyline!! ❤️ Nicholas Sparks really outdid himself for this story!!! The ending gets me everytime😭😭😭😭
Jo watches over them... from a damn Helicarrier.
and send capt steve & jack reacher if anything goes wrong..😂😂😂

That was a great surprise ending, but it's so sad! I really liked Jo's character. I wish she was really there.
After seeing the ending I was like "OMG EVERYTHING MAKES SO MUCH SENSE NOW"
everyone's on here like "that ending is so shocking and beautiful" and I'm just over here like, "lucky dude got to have Cobie Smulders AND Julianne Hough"
I'm choked up and all I can think of is a bond and a cardinal that kept showing up 😢
this scene made me cry a lot! loved it!
In the book, it wasn't a photo that Katie saw in the letter, it was a painting in the bedroom.
In the book, the house where Alex & his kids lived was above the store. Katie's husband, Kevin, did set the store & thus the house on fire. Katie rescued the kids from the fire.
