The Act needs to be redraughted to include wild camping and other leisure activities 'not mentioned' in the '85 one, how about picknicking and kite flying. Totness MP Anthony Mangnall has suggested this is the way to solve the problem. if the Dartmoor National Park authority have made any 'hasty' decision in favor of paying the the landowner for the public to use the land they already had a right to use, it should be overturned. All rather confusing. I’ve just read on a blog that DNPA are in the process of contacting all 37 landowners on Dartmoor to see how they want to proceed from here. Let’s watch this space.
On one hand we get told to get out and about to keep us fit, etc. to enjoy the countryside. On the other we can no longer legally wild camp. Massive tracts of land are owned by a few. Where I live it is nearly all owned by United Utilities ( North West Water), all they are interested in are the local reseviours, but also own nearly all the land around them, the rest is an Estates company who have tenented hill farms (Sheep mainly). There is open access allowed on the open moorland (away from the farmland), but no camping allowed. I camp respectfully, shutting gates, etc and leave no trace. Once again, "Suits" in London (200 miles away) making decisions for the rest of us again.

How on god`s green earth did they come to the conclusion that camping is NOT recreation?? i`m not homeless FFS , i don`t need to be on Dartmoor in a tent to survive because i have a house and a job!!! i am often found on the moor because i love the place and enjoy being there , it`s what i love to do at weekends ,surely that is the EPITOME` of recreation???
@@benhikescamps Too be honest it's not going to stop authentic hikers from wild camping there, the same as all the other national parks where it isn't allowed but it still happens. But it does mean you can be moved on if caught, never been but looks pretty desolate after dark so chances are your not going to be seen as long as arrive late, leave early.
How will the Darwalls police their land? As wild campers cannot know who owns which areas of Dartmoor they’ll be forced to take a chance and pitch up where it suits. So will the Darwalls stay out all night every night flying drones to locate and move people on? Bizarre 🙄
The travesty is that these ignorant, selfish landowners Im sure are really trying like the rest of us to stop dirty campers that trashed during the pandemic and will continue to trash the moor. “No camping” signs & an online map didn’t stop these people before & Im sure this ruling will not make a jot of difference. But unfortunately the real wild campers who leave no trace suffer.
I am sure there is more to this .. Darwell, I assume , is probably from the hunting fraternity (?). 'Townies ' like us riff raff who know nothing of the countryside (obviously) disrupt and keep watch on these often very desolate places where maybe illegal hunting goes on unnoticed.. maybe he and his judicial friends have been planning this for years.. I know this is me ranting and assuming and getting close to being a conspiracy theorist but I am seething !!!
Its banned just on his land to my understanding we need a map of the estate he own and as long as we dont go on it there shouldn't be a problem. An just fingers crossed the other land owners dont follow suit
Unfortunately, it's not currently as straightforward as that. The judge says the 1985 law never incorporated wild camping. Thus The National Park have had to change the wording on their website recommending everybody and anybody to seek permission from the landowner anywhere one Dartmoor. Let's see how that goes! Thanks for watching,
A very small minority of ‘dirty’ campers didn’t respect the land he owns and so the owner claimed the 1985 Dartford Commons Act didn’t permit wild camping. The judge agreed.
I know of an event which takes place on Dartmoor every single (inc this year) year, which involves “wild camping”.. This is called the ‘TEN TORS’ - Okehampton Camp. Which this year is scheduled to take place on Fri 28th April 2023 - Sun 30th April 2023… Just checked on the website!! Surely if this event goes ahead now after this new High Court ruling, then we too have the right to spend nights out on the moor?? 🤔
The judge is correct. Access on foot or horseback is allowable. Sleeping is neither of those activities. Get over it and ask permission. Duchy of Cornwall is the largest landowner with around 70,000 acres. Inundate his office with requests and see what he does.
‘Getting over it’, ignoring it, further allows are rights and freedoms to be eroded. Other countries look at us and are astounded by our lack of freedom in nature. Our country is the most disconnected to nature in all of Europe. Writing to the Duchy of Cornwall may help; just accepting this High Court judgment made in favour of two wealthy landowners will not.
Stop. Being woke and take some action and get up fight for what’s yours go round too there home and camp outside and call your self homeless and you cannot be moved on it happens in all cities commonly known as tramps or homeless, make some noise, protests

I’ll just carry on camping and hope for the best it’s now like rest of uk basically except Scotland
Thanks for watching.
Agreed!!
My understanding the ruling covers the whole of the national park and not just one part of it. The park authority has lodged an appeal though.
That’s my understanding too Andy. I just hope they can afford to fund an appeal.
Bizarre
🙄
I will continue to wildcamp on Dartmoor !, are they going to patrol the whole of Dartmoor?
The travesty is that these ignorant, selfish landowners Im sure are really trying like the rest of us to stop dirty campers that trashed during the pandemic and will continue to trash the moor. “No camping” signs & an online map didn’t stop these people before & Im sure this ruling will not make a jot of difference. But unfortunately the real wild campers who leave no trace suffer.
Very true.
I've banned myself listening to the banners. I Might even wild camp in downing street when it warms up a bit.
Each to their own.
I believe He’s not from Devon and lives in London.
Yes 3.000 acres owned by a landowner .
Go in mass and camp there, the power lies with the people
People should protest the change, and investigate why it happened as well, We've had mass protests about land access in the past.
Make some noise,go round there home camp outside there home pretending you’re homeless, police can’t move you on, pay the homeless too live there
Its banned just on his land to my understanding we need a map of the estate he own and as long as we dont go on it there shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks for watching,
Wild camping lives on.
It does.
So it's now the same in Dartmoor as the rest of the country. Has that stopped wild camping elsewhere where the majority takes place, no.
This is different. It’s the principle of rights being eroded by the rich few. Thin end of the wedge.
Does anyone know why the case was brought?
A very small minority of ‘dirty’ campers didn’t respect the land he owns and so the owner claimed the 1985 Dartford Commons Act didn’t permit wild camping. The judge agreed.
treason..the judge should be sacked immediately and the decision revoked .. land owners shold have the land taken off them..
I wonder if the judge was compromised?
Yes,by masonic obligations is my guess. They always protect their own.
@@earlgrey691 It’s certainly possible my friend.
Who is being ‘woke’? Nobody is saying action can’t be taken. In fact action and protests are already scheduled by many. Thanks for watching the video.
