I bought a black Sigma 'SG-9' 42 years ago in 1981 when i was 15. I still have it and I still love the big warm sound this guitar has. Now I'm thinking about buying the Sigma SG200.

Great guitar. I have one. It's closer to the Gibson in tone than the epiphone super jumbos are. And still affordable. Gibson sj200 are beautiful, but horribly expensive. Worth the money. But evil expensive. Hoping to finally get one for my 40th in a couple of years.

I've got it's cheapy cousin, gjm sge, like the studio version , 2nd hand £150, bought it as a beater for camping primarily, but I love it - slim comfy neck for my child like little hands and a crisp loud tone (tho a bit spongy compared to yours) my Yairi has remained i its case for months now - w live in the golden age of astonishingly good cheap guitars and gibson/martin/taylor are going to be in trouble shortly I think

I've had one of these for a couple of months and it's beautiful to look at but more importantly it's beautiful to hear. I also have an Epiphone Hummingbird that sounds good too but unfortunately the Sigma sounds better in comparison. One thing that the Hummingbird has over it is the way it plays, my local tech Leo did a fantastic job on setting them both up and it plays like a Les Paul so I guess I can't have it all.

Well it's not a bad guitar, but, and I'm not trying to discredit Chinese build guitars, in that price range I would rather look at spending few more bucks and buy a Martin Road series. All solid wood construction with the same pickup. I've heard guys complain that this exact Sigma's have intonation issues. It's seldom that you get a pretty good jumbo body guitar copy. In this instance I would go for the Epiphone EJ200. Also laminate back and sides but much cheaper. Then you'll compare apples with apples. Since Sigma and Martin ended their partnership, the brand started lacking in good quality and value I would say. Sigma startes basically copying Gibsons (Hummingbird, J45 and J200) and Taylor with the Sigma modern series. Their Martin based guitars were awesome when they had their collaboration.

@@atomic7731 I own a Sigma 000MR-4, brilliant quality, brilliant preamp. And I also have a Gibson J15. Would be nice to compare the Sigma 45 to the Gibson J45 too. Ja I must say I like the estetics of the Sigma SG200. Don't like the Epiphone EJ200 in all honesty, especially the headstock. The Sigma SG200 I'm actually considering to buy, because the Gibson J200 is very expensive, even the Gibson Studio J200 is over $2000 USD. So ja the Sigma SG200 is definitely an option for me. My only concern is intonation issues. But until I haven't played one I can't make a proper decision I guess.

Martin did start a company in east, to produce more afordable Martin Guitars in the 70s. The Name: Sigma. That is the reason, why the logo was like the Martin logo. Years later they sold the company to a dealing company from munich Bavaria with the name AMI. Since AMI produced Gibson like guitars too, Martin didnt alow AMI to use the Martin like Logo anymore. @@mattriffmaster the problem that I've got, don't get me wrong it's a beautiful guitar, is the intonation of this model. And I can hear it slightly in your video. Don't know if its because of the neck and nut profile used in combination with the bridge profile. I would, personally, think the Epiphone EJ200 is bit better than the Sigma SG200. I would like to hear the J45 version from Sigma as well. The Fishman Sonitone sounds too much on the mid range for me. Personally I think the sonitone aren't the best pickup for a Jumbo body than for instance with a dread or OM/000 shape guitar. But that's just my pure objective observation and criticism. With regards to your review, great stuff, you really did a great job because I wouldn't have been able to make these observations. Do a review on the Sigma Modern Series as well, if you haven't already. Great review.
