Wow, that's pretty awesome.I remember when I saw Doyle Bramhall with Eric Clapton a while ago, on the Me and Mr. Johnson tour. (Billy Preston was with him too, RIP) I've been a fan ever since. It's strange to see a left handed guitar player play a left handed guitar with the strings upside down. At that show he also had a left handed Stratocaster with a right handed neck with the strings upside down. That really threw me....
Absolutely right...Couldn't agree with you more. I love Doyle and SRV,etc. But you are correct...they are sons and extensions of the one and only Jimi...
When you hear a video with such a crappy audio quality and you still get to decode that freaking amazing tone is when you witness the greatest combination of all.... talent+gear... equals Real Tone... holy Shaitza!!! EPIC!
Doyle is using the experimental model...I think he was the very first person to use it...and I think they also sent onr to Robin Trower. These were made well ahead before they sold them to the public...only certain Artist got to check them out and give their feed back to Fultone...
This is great but it is very heavily reminiscent of Machine Gun by Jimi Hendrix and the Band of Gypsys. That's not a bad thing, but it just sounds so similar.
bramhall has great feel. jimi wasn't about lead guitar. he was about crafting his music. yeah, he hit wrong stuff, but had hands that still made it flow. srv borrowed, but he had his way of crafting. jimi borrowed from buddy guy. when you play, try to just let it flow. dig the vibe
Im not quite sure if that is the 64' strat Cause Doyle himself has stated that he bought that guitar in 2000. So either this video has the wrong year, or it must be another guitar. It looks more browner too, than the strat he uses now, which is more brown/yellow -orange then black :)
Elvis, Buddy and Jerry came up approx. the same time, and the lines of influence were blurred, nevermind the fact that Elvis played 'voice', Jerry Lee played piano, and Buddy played guitar. Here, these copyists followed the object of their affection maaaaaaaaaany yrs. later. I assume you live in Topeka, Ks.? Bramhall is as close TECHNICALLY to Jimi as you are to Andy Mckee...
i think your missing the point. ive heard him play through many different amps, and many different guitars, and guess what? its always the Doyle sound.
Two different style's of music and he probably couldn't play my stuff just as I could play his. all I'm saying is that just cause the guys plays the kind of thing he plays doesn't mean he should automatically be thrown into a "Jimi follower" category. That's unjust. Proves me right everyone has a closed mind since my original comment has been thumbed down. Same people that want to keep hearing fucking freebird.
Yes, well this is Branhall doing a Hendrix copy thing, the same way millions of others have done before, SRV being one of them, and none of 'em REALLY fit to grovel at Jimi's musical feet...let's call a spade a spade-Jimi wrote the book, and these types have torn a page out and read a bit of it-enjoyable, some of it, but they are copyists-
whatever. I hate to even get into this but they're all their own people and we need not compare them. TECHNICALLY speaking, Doyle's chops spin circles around Jimi. Jimi sucked TECHNICALLY.. but that doesn't mean Jimi was bad...I agree, he was a pioneer. But Elvis and Buddy Holly and Jerry Lee lewis Never get compared to each other...I wonder why?
why is he playing a left handed guitar, left handed, stung upside down? Sounds a little counter-productive. Obviously he sounds fine, but why not just go ahead and play the right handed guitar upside down?
Anyone who doubts Doyle's skills should watch him play on the Roger Waters "In the Flesh" DVD. Emotion and skill all in one. It's fantastic.
Perfect combination of Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix ! Rock on my brother from ZazzOff Guitars !
I agree....saw him during the smokestack tour in Detroit about 7 years ago....Great show!!!!

His style is so insane.

Really nice head those. I recently sold the DG80 112 combo. I would have loved to have kept it, but wanted buy something else... :-(
He says he finds it easier to bend the thinner strings that way. It allows him to do powerful bends with ease.
awesome, what an inspiration !
@guyontheinternet111 YESSIR! He does kill it on the "In the Flesh Tour"
@ aproximately 3:23 my face melted....:((((( :)

My Hero! :D
Yes.
I think that might be the same strat he used in the 2007 crossroads when he played with clapton. but it has wayyyy more paint worn off of it.
LOL....I was thinking the same thing. Ain't that great???

Wendy and Lisa are from Princes old band.

you can probably contact a local pbs tv
station and they can probably tell you how to
get a copy.
unfuckingbelievable.
I wanna say he was using Yamaha amps back then.
Tone thunder.
Yea, I know...just a figure of speech! but appropo-
