@@par5ek If you're planning to spend that much, then why not get an old laptop or spend a little extra on something like a LattePanda? You didn't say what you want it for, but you can get broken laptops or just the motherboard for as little as $20-30 (sometimes even free if you look locally) and 8GB DDR3 only costs an extra $15 or so, the only thing to look out for is some newer models have an intrusion detection system meaning it won't turn on if it knows the case is open.
@@par5ek For Around 100 Bucks, which would be around what you pay for a Full Pi4B 8GB Kit, you can get a used Dell Optiplex with something like an I5 4670 and 8GB RAM. DDR3 Ram is so cheap, you could get another 8GB for as little as 5 Bucks on ebay sometimes. It obviously uses more Power, but you have native Sata support, a full x16 PCIe slot and way, waaaay more horsepower.
@@par5ek May I ask you, kind stranger, where do you live that your choices are that limited? A Pi4 isn't a replacement for a homeserver if your intentions are anything more than 4 or 5 docker containers. I have a Pi4 4GB and I am running Homeassistant on that thing, pihole, wireguard and unbound. He wouldn't take much more, as grafana and influxDB are hitting hard on him, even with a ssd via USB. If you have the option, maybe look out for an Intel nuc. Yes, it's a whole other price category, but it may just be worth it for whatever you want todo.
@@par5ek Well, that's one of the reasons I recommended a laptop, you get at least double if not more processing power, ram is super cheap and any of the U series chips are rated for 15W, although usually it won't be much more than a Rpi, plus for solar power just like a Pi you can run it directly off DC with any ~19v supply (except for Dell/Apple since they like to use propriety chargers), but the other major reason is of course you can plug a HDD/SSD directly into it rather than USB (or a breakout board) as your only option for bulk storage. However, I understand this can require a bit of DIY hackery to get running and you might rather just want something you can put an sd card in and get going.
