When I was a teen a friend of mine had a Huntsman (in Wales) and the thing I remember most was the wonderful throb of the twin Perkins engines and the sound of the spray hitting the surface of the sea, as it cut through waves (like a knife through butter). The sequence in from Russia with Love, of the escape in - I think it was a Huntress - chased by a couple of Huntmans and a Swordsman is still one of my favourites. A wonderful iconic boat. If they still made them I'm sure they would still sell even if they are a bit retro. Compared to the gin palaces they flog today, there is something very Navy about them - especially the colour - but also the build!
I did a lot of work on one of these in Poole. A beautiful boat in my opinion and rode really well at sea beautiful sound out of the pair of Fords it was running
I used to own Petita ,bought her in Jersey, had a dramatic journey back in March ,had her for a year or so and then sold her to a friend and delivered it to Isle of Mull.
Come to think of it Ive had quite a few Fairey boats Huntress--Zaneta of Hamble,Huntsman,Limited Edition,Nickolby and of course Petita and two Spearfish--Hoffa and Ford Fantasy 272.I have some photos of these boats if anybody wants them .
Huntsman - not the prettiest, not the fastest, not the most comfortable...but in my book the most desirable by a long way - need to get one here in Singapore at the RSYC.....
