My fav part is that the usual optimus g1 details r actually just different kibble altogether like how the "grille abs" r actually the stepladders and the chest windows r the BACK windows as opposed to the front ones, so its less a rehash of the g1 design but a real reimagining of how to get to the same point with way more fun steps
Outside of the curse of the useless plastic box, I found this toy so refreshing. In the sea of ever accurate G1 prime, this evoked huge old classics vibe.
I'm a little stunned at how cool the transformation for this Optimus is and so much of that hinges around this being an Optimus that doesn't use the legs as the trailer-part of the vehicle.
I mean, the real thing is just two steel rails one way and two axles the other way and some springs or airbags to tie them together. There's really no volume back there to make legs from, so just wadding it all up into a backpack makes so much more sense
It would have been neat if the resemblance to Hero Optimus Prime had been leaned into further and they had included the trailer for G2 Universe Laser Optimus Prime instead of the Earthrise trailer.
Ooooh, didn't realise how different the transformation would be; noice! ^^ I thought it was going to be another slightly edited WfC mold! Also major applause for editing once again! :D
I’m still holding out hope for a G2 Hero deco for this. If that never happens I’ll hunt for the Christmas one, since it looks like this mold was a homerun.
05:44 Man, I wish we'd gotten a _G3_ in Transformers... atleast all the way to "Transformers: Generation Six" before getting off the Generations partybus.
Thanks for the Volvic Video! Yeah...I've heard nothing but praise for this guy, but that trailer upping the price always gives me pause. I'll probably get him one day.
Ive always had a memory of some truck transformer i had as a kid where the cab became the lower legs. Still no clue what figure that was but this really hits that nostalgia. The holiday colorway didnt really do it for me but the classic really does.
I don't know if anyone has said it already, but both VNR & Holiday Primes are available on Hasbro pulse under their outlet section (basically their own clearance section)
One of my favorite recent Optimi, which is high praise with how many sick truck daddies we've gotten with Siege onward. The puny trailer does suck, though that's probably gonna be something the rumored SS'86 Prime will rectify. Here's hoping it's gonna be a new mold and not just the ER one with a bigger trailer and a Roller. Also looking forward to that JAXXA Lunar Prime, once I manage to score myself one I'm definitely gonna mess around with it listening to the soundtrack of Uchuu Kyoudai\Space Brothers.
My brother has the holiday version. It is misassembled and can't transform correctly. IIRC it had two left or two right shoulders instead of one left and one right.
Geez, that transformation does indeed look fun, and the resulting figure is impressive! ...But I already have 3 variants of the Earthrise trailer dag nabbit!
See, in my mind when you've got a truck this realistic it NEEDS some kind of trailer because otherwise it just looks naked in alt mode, so I'm glad they included one - and because trailers always suck I'm glad they just reused the Earthrise one instead of ballooning the budget with a new one.
I’d be so happy if this guy ever got a mass retail release by himself. Maybe with a different chest plate so he’s even more “generation 3”. His transformation is so nice in its efficiency. If only this could’ve been the basis for what ended up being Earthspark Optimus
3:30 Alright, Tyrannosaurus Vangelus, you've sold me on the Volvic, but you won't have me for breakfast until you do another Mazinger toy review! (I'd suggest lining up an HG Mazinger ZERO Infinitism kit or the upcoming MODEROID Mazinger ZERO. But that's neither here nor there.)
Okay everybody, let's do this one last time. He is Orion B. Pax, he got bitten by a radioactive Matrix, and for the last five million years, he thought he was the one and only Optimus Prime. Pretty sure you know the rest. *Uncle Dion dies* _Freedom is the right of all sentient beings..._ Saved the universe, fell in love, got pair-bonded, saved the universe some more, maybe too much, the pair-bonding got testy, made some dicey Shanix decisions, do NOT invest in a Powermaster-themed restaurant on Nebulos, then like fifteen whatever-wars passed, blah blah blah, Prime burnout, he broke the Combat Deck, a Seeker flew into his face, he buried Roller, Elita-1 and him… Split up… But he handled it like a _CHAMPION._ Because you know what? No matter how many times he dies, he _ALWAYS_ comes back to life in a new toy. And he's had a lot of time to reflect and work on himself. Did you know that Sharkticons mate for _life?_ Can you imagine, a Sharkticon seeing another Sharkticon… and making it work? She wanted Protoforms… and it scared him. And he's pretty sure he broke her heart. Flash forward, he's in the Cybernet Space Cube, combining with his trailer, getting Super Mode, when this weird thing happened. And yeah, weird things happen to him a lot, but this was REAL weird. He was in Autobot City, but things were… different. Also he was DEAD. … and die-cast. He was kind of perfect. It was like looking in a mirror. And he's pretty sure the thing that brought him here is what got the other him dead. So now he has to help Bumble Beealis to learn how to be _this_ universe's new Bee-imus Prime.
I am not a truck enthusiast, but I did Google up some images of the Volvo VNR 300 while playing with this thing to compare the accuracy. One anomaly I found is that the real-life truck does not have a smoke stack as the toy does. And the smoke stack isn't really involved in the transformation. So they added an inaccurate detail for no reason.
I really hope they make a slightly cheaper version (I know, I know, it'd be more expensive than a voyager due to the licensing) that instead of coming with a big, useless trailer, comes with weapons that look like the Combat Hero Air Pump Missile, with a suitable white pants deco.
If you want a very *good* trailer, the one they made for the Core Class figure is magnificent. It's properly proportional to Optimus's truck mode, it comes with Roller and frankly, it's downright adorable and I love it.
The way I hear tell, Amazon was gonna make this truck the signature vehicle of their fleet, but drivers threatened to walk out because it doesn't have a sleeping section, meaning Amazon intended them to drive long distances without rest, so they scrapped the deal.
VNR Optimus Prime could pass as semi Generations styled Cinematic Optimus with licences alt mode. *Bet next Vangelus review been: Legacy Laser Optimus Prime.*
It's too bad third party has largely abandoned doing figures and accessories for mainline and non-MP figures such as this. I would have loved to see a stylistically-matched aerodynamic trailer, like we had with all of those trailers for 06 Classics Prime.
G1 Optimus needs to stop having his stupid boring trailer that he's had since 1984. They NEVER do anything new or fun with it. I'd much rather they do something like dotm Prime or laser Prime.
I heard thew called vnr prime the peter b Parker of Optimus and when I heard i was not able to unhear it as 616 Optimus a it kinda makes sense because update Optimus would be a newer truck for to day
I think Volvo prime would have better looking legs if the trailer wasn’t part of the toy’s budget. Maybe give the Cab Calves an extra joint or two to collapse in on itself. Otherwise I like this is a fresh take on the big OP.

Hope we get another 111 reviews to become COMPLETE.
The trailer should've formed power armor.
The trailers should always form some sort of power armor.
agreeable and ethical
Sgt. Dornan would agree.
"Ladiesmangelus" fecking genius.

It's genuinely delightful, it's been way too long since something this creative was released by Hasbro
Thanks for reminding me about this slice of Volvic joy. I sat on him and then regretted it. Surprisingly he's still around.
I'm a little stunned at how cool the transformation for this Optimus is and so much of that hinges around this being an Optimus that doesn't use the legs as the trailer-part of the vehicle.

"Thickened leg-bearing mass" is what I call my ass
That final final shot of him made me realise the headsculpt is channeling MP01
Ooooh, didn't realise how different the transformation would be; noice! ^^ I thought it was going to be another slightly edited WfC mold!
Also major applause for editing once again! :D
thank you!
8:53 if you disconnect the bottom of the back kibble from the lower back, you can use a transformation joint as an ab crunch.
I always thought it was weird that the Christmas repaint of VNR Prime came out before this version did.
Thinking about how awesome it would be for someone to produce a trailer that can give this thing a super mode. It’s got enough ports for it.
Missing the OG Vangelus! Good stuff!
I’m still holding out hope for a G2 Hero deco for this. If that never happens I’ll hunt for the Christmas one, since it looks like this mold was a homerun.
I like how, on a quick glance, the lower leg behind bulk looks like big bellbottoms blowing in the breeze.
I've only got the holiday prime version of this figure. Im really tempted to double dip.
do iiit, double branding brother primes~
@@Vangelus well now I have to. Finally got both TFCon Shafters thanks to your vids as well.

What I like about this version of Volvo Optimus is that you can have him displayed whenever.
“Capitalist Apocalypse Nexus points of the 21st century...”
I love you, man 😂
With all the times Vangelus says "Volvic", I'm starting to think this may be a video for adult collectors and hobbyists, not kids
the line must be drawn! here!!

"the reverse Side Burn" i see you are a man of culture as well
His hands don't open up?
Looks like a fun transformation overall.

It makes you wonder if it will ever be repainted with the G2 Hero colors
I was informed long ago to not call it a comeback, so I’ll just say I’m enjoying the Vangelus review renaissance.
My brother has the holiday version. It is misassembled and can't transform correctly. IIRC it had two left or two right shoulders instead of one left and one right.
great video as always
I was all ready to make a Voldo joke, and then you just go and snipe the joke from me.
as they say in Tekken, FLAWLESS VICTORY

Does this not have working light-piping? The light-piping eyes were the most pleasant surprise on the Christmas version
Indeed, this one has painted ones instead

kinda wild right??

"What's YOUR theory?"
My theory is that cyberpunk dystopia fucking sucks no matter how you slice it.
